Modern FeRAM chips are nice (Sonic3 related stuff in here).

For the screws you need a bit is called Gamebit, 4.5mm one to be exact. I will be useful when opening up other carts, Nomads, N64s, SNESs etc.

The new chip is bigger than old one, and some pins are in different places, that's why I have those things there. The small diagram should be clear enough on that part

I cant understand this picture because of perspective and the lack of ppi's.
The few i can understand is that you're making a jumper between the port WE from the FeRAM, and you're connecting it to something i cant really figure out.
Yet, i see a resistor connected to what appears to be the VCC port of the FeRam, did you add the resistor there or it was there before?

That is a capacitor there, which got in the way of the new chip, so I relocated it.

The !WE part is indeed confusing, I should have marked it more clearly where it ends up.

It goes to the other side of the board and connects to top left 2nd pin.

sorry for the archaic bump, but...the Sonic 3 i bought back a while ago doesn't even bring up the save screen, just goes right into level 1 from the title screen no matter what i do. i'm boned, yeah? sounds a lot easier to just find another Sonic 3 cart at this point.

Curious if the info in this thread is still current or if there is a better way. If so I'm wondering if the diagram could be put back up

edit: Just finished this mod, and was successful, but I did run into some unseen problems that others may want to beware of. Notice the C00B1 chip on Tmee's board next to the FeRam chip, his has got 7 pins while mine had 8 meaning less space between both chips. I ended up having to desolder the chip and slightly move it back so the new FeRam would physically fit. I really don't like having to do that but I had no choice.

Here's a link to my Pics of the Install. I did route things alittle differently to keep from cutting traces, but overall its the same mod.:p
