Not sure if thats what its called, but I want to make some screen shots of a stage in Mortal Kombat 3,
but I need to be able to disable the layers so i can capture all parts of the background separately.
But what version of Mame would i need for this?
(Its been ages since i last mamed)
ummm, can ANY version of MAME do that?
Perhaps the offshoot frontend versions?
The only emulator I've used with layer selection is Yabause for Saturn games, and on that note, MK3 (or ultimate MK3 at least) is for Saturn, so maybe give that a try first?

Good call on the Saturn thing btw, Might try that or see if any of the Ps1 emulators support layer disabling.

I just spend an hour getting MK3 to run (damn romsets) and figuring out how to use cheats,
so I finally thought i was ready to start ripping and.. no layer disable cheat in the newest pugsy's cheat dat.
So i search and search and finally find a site that properly lists them all,
only to find out that they have changed the way cheats are stored..
so now i got codes from 2005 that don't work anymore.
And yeah, you'd think this would be standard by now.
I always keep a copy of the last-ever build of the infamous MAME32 Plus! Plus! plus a cheat.dat dated July 2007. Unfortunately I tried all MK games and none of them have layering options in the cheats database. To save yourself the headache I suggest you follow 17days' advice..
