Tekken 3 was fin-al-ly released for the PlayStation, after two excruciatingly long years of waiting. When you're 14 years old, that's a long time to wait. Also, my PlayStation broke down.
Tekken 3 looks sick.
in 1998...
- I got my driver's license
- I hooked up with my first girlfriend (relationship lasted about a year and a half)
- I decided not to drop out of school (something I had strongly thought about in 1997), which probably was a pretty good idea after all...
- was a year of severely overrated US-films (Armageddon AND Deep Impact, Godzilla, Truman Show, Saving Private Ryan, Shakespeare in Love...).
- Also, a horrible sequel to one of my favorite movies of all time was released (Blues Brothers 2000)
- but had also a number of very cool movies (The Big Lebowski, Dark City, Lola Rennt - Run, Lola,Run), including one of my favorite foreign movies overall (La vita è bella)...
- Faith No More, one of my favorite bands, disbanded (Nooooooo....)
- I was exposed to the "Dropkick Murphy's" for the first time
I remember seeing a dvdscreener of 'South Park: Bigger, longer & uncut' that year. Wicked! Nuff said.
I was a Sophomore in High School. Resident Evil games were the BEST ever!! Sega Genesis console was retired in my closet. SNES games were still for sale at stores.
I was eight years old, and the summer of that year was one of the worst summers I have ever experienced, and not because of the heat.
My mother's friend who had about 5-8 kids (I don't know how much) came to stay with us because she was having trouble with her husband (I can't recall the exact reasons, but I know they were stupid).
While I don't really remember much of what happened during this visit, I can remember when my mom's friend came to our house again for the second time back in 2004.
I can remember the reasons why she came that time:
"My husband doesn't think it's a good idea for me to go to school and become a surgeon because we have a ton of kids that we need to take care of and I'm allergic to latex!" Latex, you know, that chemical that's in plastic gloves that surgeons use...
And on top of all of that she was really condescending about her family only eating organic food, had a spaz attack when I made my self instant noodles, and acted like her parenting was vastly superior to my mothers. Her kids hid Game Cube game discs in the VCR, broke a punching bag, and chewed off buttons on our remote. Judging by how things were that time, I can assume that the first time my mom's friend stayed at our house was a little bit like that.
In September I met my best childhood friend. He lived next door, it was awesome because I'd go to his house after school every day and play hide and seek and PSX. Good times...
Penny Arcade started. I would have been nice if Nintendo kept the SNES alive one more year here so we could have gotten Mega Man and Bass.
1998, let's see...
Pretty non-descript year, actually. I graduated from high school in 1997 and tried moving back to California from Texas to live with my parents. That didn't work out so well, so I moved back to Austin to live be with my girlfriend from high school and discover life on my own.
So, when 1998 rolled around I had broken up with my girlfriend and experienced my first (and only) set of holidays without my family. Over the course of that year I took up the drums, got my first real job, beefed up my rapidly growing CD collection with my new-found appreciation of Metallica and Megadeth, and struggled with my on-again/off-again relationship with automotive insurance.
Oh, and I heard this song on the radio a lot.
hey cool thread!
i was 13 in 98 and wwf monday night raw and wcw monday nitro was gauranteed to be on our tv on every monday night.
i went through my marilyn manson stage(his mtv music awards performance that previous fall grabbed me by the balls and introduced me to a whole new world of music)
and first got into heavy music(pantera, killswitch engage, devildriver, slayer and lamb of god are some of my modern day favorites of the genre) korn and rob zombie were on my stereo alot as well back then.
that year(and the previous two) me and my 2 younger brothers and little sister wanted a nintendo 64 so bad it was rediculous, all of our friends had one and we were uber jealous. we had just broken our snes previously that year and had went through several genesis' since our first in christmas of 93, and at the time all of the rave was about wcw/nwo revenge i couldnt believe that it had like 60 different wrestlers and you could play with 4 players simultaneosly it blew my mind! especially the wrestling freak that i was. i wanted that game more than anything ive ever wanted in my entire life, but we were a really dirty poor family and my parents were always screwed up on drugs so they couldnt hold on to cash to save their lives. so christmas morning 98 and im ready to hit the mat with my new 64 we were just sure that we had gotten one but low and behold sitting under the tree was the lowly old dying sega genesis model 2(used) we were so dissapointed that it sent our mom into a depression, we were pissed! but we got one eventually (income tax 99 woo hoo!) looking back on it all today i would take a sega genesis 3 with waynes world and 3 ninjas kick back over a 64 with revenge any day of the week
thanks mom!!!
but im sure if they wouldve come through that year it wouldve been me in this vid instead:
98 was when I realized 90-95 was gone and wasn't coming back and I died a little inside.
Graduated High School Also! Got drunk and stoned on the beach... Son Was Born! I've blocked everything else!
oh no my freind you are sadly mistaken
here let me end all of this "best video of 98" buttwater
and this is coming from someone who hates pearl jam
they hit this one out of the park
one of my favorite vids
the 1st Lethal Weapon Movie I saw in Theater. Not quite as good as the previous movies but still a damn good movie

I can suspend disbelief, but Mel Gibson and Danny Glover whopping Jet Li's ass?
That's a check that can't be cashed.
Lethal Weapon 4 was great. I still think 'didn't Mad Max drive that through a building?' every time I see a Pontiac Grand Am.
He did it way before John Cusack did in 2012.
In 1998 my Padres went to the World Series!!! ...And then got slaughtered by what many consider to be the best team ever: the '98 Yankees...

I graduated High School and started junior college that I would drop out of an uncountable amount of times.
I got my 66 Lemans which was a dream come true.
I saw the awesomeness that was the Aquabats in concert.
I think it was 98 when Arizona legend Malignus Youth got back to together. I saw them as many times as possible.
Dumped my fucking stupid girlfriend, met a new girl who was as hot, horny and evil as the last one had been stupid.
Learned how to toss Pizza dough.
I was playing a lot gigs in my band, The Disabled Super Men.
The Lollapalooza was moved to Phoenix thus denying me my only chance to see DEVO and the Ramones. I still hate Phoenix for that.
I started to get away from my almost strictly punk regiment of music ans got into all sorts of bands like L7 and Gary Numan,
I used to hang out in front of my house with my buddy and drink a 99 cent 2 liter of RC Cola and hang out till 4 am. This went on till we saw a perfectly spherical blue light on the top of the mountain that filled the whole sky for a few seconds. I think both of us had drank to much RC.
I was pulled out of my Lemans and searched about 8 times by the police. I think this is wear my dislike for them started. They also tried to tell my friends and I on separate occasions that we had robbed a bicycle store a had stolen cars. This is where my distaste for them started.

I still see them every time they're in town :D
Best live show ever. I think i have seen them 10 times or more.
This scene happened many times...
Sand Flies - They only like you because you give them water. Well we have Gatorade (soaks crowd in Gatorade)
Aquabats-WE have Chocolate milk ( now we are covered in chocolate milk)
Sand Flies- We have chicken nuggets
Aquabats- We have spaghetti!
Sand Flies-We have an Octopus!!
One time they made the whole crows of 400 or so sit down for story time. They refused to play until every last person did.
I can't believe no one's mentioned Metal Gear Solid.
Metal Gear Who? ;)
I keep trying to remember stuff, but all I can think of is graduating high school. I hated high school, and was late so much I thought they might hold my diploma till I made it up. I managed to get free though. I also quit my first job and bought Metal Gear Solid.
I didn't have a PSX at the time, I was still playing SNES. But I remember asking my friend to get it so I could see what it looked like.
He never did I never got to play it until 2004...
I beat a game from 1998 yesterday, which was Burning Rangers. That is all for now.
I didn't own a PSX until 2001.
This is what I was playing in 1998.

I loved building insane amounts of ships and dominating the seas. And those catapult ships were the best for softening up some shoreline for an amphibious assault.
Too bad the ships were weakened in AOE2 to the point they were almost useless.
The first half of 1998 was pretty shitty. I was in the 5th grade, and it was just horrible.
The second half... pretty bitching, had a nice PC, played Unreal after it to run after buying it a second time (returned it the first time) I started 6th grade and the 6th grade was pretty good.
Ah, video gaming in 98!
I started out the year playing catch-up on my newly-purchased SNES (bargain bin foddder at Best Buy at that point). Played StarFox and Super Metroid for the first time, while blasting Metallica and Bjork (respectively).
Later on that year I got a PSX and met two of my greatest loves: Mega Man Legends and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. One of my friends raved endlessly about Resident Evil 1 & 2, although I didn't see the appeal. One of my room mates had a '64, but except for one glorious weekend during which we rented StarFox 64, it pretty much just gathered dust.
Just before I flew out to California for Christmas with the family, I started my own game of Ocarina of Time. I was listening to a lot of Megadeth's So Far So Good So What? at the time, so the first hour or so of that game will be forever associated with the memories of that album and a wicked ice storm threatening to keep all flights grounded on Christmas Eve.
Edit: I also enjoyed this movie and this song in '98.
"Super Bon Bon" came out in 1996. :p
