Yeah, I kinda hate how Cinemassacre has turned into this Ryan guy who even has a few of his own shlubs come on the show now and then. WTF is this? I came to watch James. Not these random dudes.

Whoa, I know that James can be way too much of a SNES fanboy, but I'm surprised of Ryan.
It's amazing that it takes SoR2 to put a pause on the SNES constant praise there. If there is a genre where there is no discussion and is universally accepted as insane to question, is that the Genesis is best, is beat'em up.
Rumor has it he was forged in the heat of Mount Sega-16.
Well if you look at the Mike and Ryan video playlist, the last two videos were 11 and 6 months ago.
Mike seems more receptive to audience feedback is my guess. He does chat with his audience in streams and not like there wouldn't be Sega fans in those streams voicing their opinions in defense of Sega. So while Mike may have lived in a Nintendo bubble...
"A derp, there was another system during snes era and more games than Earthbound and Mario Kart?" - Most of Youtube 2018
Meanwhile I'm still thanking Atari for giving Genesis its name.
Amazing!!

Thoughts on the Earthbound episode?

I thought it wasn't bad, aside from one annoying repeated screaming moment. I've never played earthbound, and I am more interested to play it now, even though it seems pretty trippy. That fetus theory at the end though, supposedly that's just a coincidence of the repeating pattern and scaling based on my quick research, so I expect some people may give AVGN a bit of a hard time about that. I did like the part where he talked about the stage based on Ness' memories, "I melted away one warm winter day but I'll always remain in your memory" is haunting and he highlighted the emotional impacts of the game really well at many points.
I thought the Earthbound review was great, I like when he branches out from just stringing together random expletives into more creative stuff.
I agree. Reminded me a lot of the multi-part review he did on Castlevania series which is one of my favourites that he's done, which like this one showed he doesn't have to get excessively angry to put together a great review. This episode had a lot of heart to it and was entertaining.
It was a good video, but I got bored with it about half way through.
I'm watching AVGN from year ~ 2012 and many says that now he's not as good as he was. Fortunately for me, I fondly remember almost every AVGN episode starting from Big Rigs/Hong Kong 97 (time when he changed his format) and I really like his new videos. I tried to rewatch his older episodes - yes, they are entertaining, but not that great and alike.
Also, this video for the first time ever made me appreciate the SNES.
Is there a game on the Genesis/Mega Drive half as outstanding and mesmerizing?
Even when I thought I liked that genre, I still didn't care for that game.
I could name 50 megadrive games that are better. not saying I don't like earthbound, but just like with pretty much anything nintendo, it's overrated beyond belief.
