I saw The Pee-Wee Herman Show LIVE last night!
First of all, if you don't like Pee-Wee, you can just fuck right off. I will have none of your anti-Pee-Wee sentiments here. Pee-Wee haters can DIAF. With that having been said...
The Pee-Wee Herman Show was probably the greatest thing I've ever seen! First of all, props to the man himself: Pee-Wee is exactly the same as when I watched him when I was a kid, and still a complete joy to watch. It was damn magical to see him there on the stage in front of me. The set design was amazing, it was Pee-Wee's Playhouse, right down to Chairy. Aside from Pee-Wee, the original Miss Yvonne and Jambi the Genie performed, and almost all of the characters with the notable exceptions of Captain Carl (RIP Phil Hartman) and the Jazz-playing/beatnik puppet trio were present and accounted for. Even better was that Phil LaMarr played the role of Cowboy Curtis, and did a great job I might add! Love that dude and that was a very pleasant surprise. Oh! And I almost shit myself when the King of Cartoons came out! I don't know where they got those old cartoons but they were great. And the secret word was FUN and every time someone said FUN the entire audience screamed real loud and it was amazing. It was FUN. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! And Pee-Wee even danced the Pee-Wee. Each time I think I'm done writing this paragraph, I think of some other amazing moment.
Truly a magical experience. Unlike most of the things that I loved when I was a child, Pee-Wee has actually gotten better as I've grown older. The only bad thing about the whole affair was that Andy Dick was there, and I hate that guy. Not in the production, of course, but just as a fan of Pee-Wee I guess. I walked right by him without even noticing that it was him, and it was kind of funny because on the car ride up I was talking about what a piece of shit he is. Afterward a bunch of people were lining up to get their picture taken with Andy Dick and I'm like what kind of person wants a picture with Andy Dick? Answer: A person incapable of having my respect.
Still, having to spend two hours in the same building with Andy Dick was a small price to pay for the greatest thing I have ever experienced. I loved it so much, why don't I marry it!?
