The Effects of Violent Video Games

I've been working on a paper for this class I'm taking called "Research Methods" studying the effects of violent video games. I could’ve picked any project, but this one is very relevant to the kind of work I do as an artist that I really haven't dived right into simply because I haven't made the time to do so until now. I decided to use "Survey Monkey" because I'll be asking a lot of people from various walks of video game forums to participate. It would be the first time I used this so my thumbs are crossed, but the teacher recommended it so I'm going to use it plus I can keep all responses consolidated to one website.

If you have any opinions or any comments to the survey or the nature of the survey, by all means express your thoughts here. The survey is multiple choices as your final answer, but only one answer can be chosen, plus you can add your own thoughts and opinions if you feel the need to do so on a survey question; it's purely optional. There are about 10 questions to the survey so it shouldn't take long to fill out... It is a very important subject that I've taken personal concerns as I've been planning to make video games and would like to know what people think about this issue.

A thought I've always had...

Honestly, if a violent video game affected a kid in some sort of way, do you really think he would really understand how it has or admit to it in a survey? Especially when he likes violent games and doesn't want to see them disappear any time soon...

Took the survey. I did my 12th grade research paper on violent games. I took a school-wide survey. I found most people agreed that violent games are not an issue. Barring a few girls.

Yea... The numbers are starting to reflect that... Personally I think that video games in general are recreational in nature unless it's just a some simulation for some project out there some where. I think it would take a little bit more then just a video game to make people violent; if there's no one to take responsibility for what their kids play then that's negligence with the parent(s) more then anything else... But then again teenagers will play what they want to play when the parent isn't looking so there aren't any easy answer out there, but every bit of information helps.

The survey will be up until "March 4th, 2010." I should have a healthy amount of information then. :)

I remember when "Street Fighter 2" first came out, I wanted to make my own fighting game after a full day of playing that for the first time so there's definetly a connection there when it comes to violent games having influence.

Survey taken. Comments left. When I was young I used to always play SFII:SCE for hours, then I'd always go up to strangers and beat the hell out them! Drop kicks, uppercuts, sweeping kicks that tripped them. Those were the days...
