Doodle Jump is cool (and cheap)

I should point out this game to all of you that like or like the idea of Propeller Arena for DC:
it plays like a more historically realistic, slightly more simmy, much more fleshed out version of Propeller Arena. It doesn't have that bright sunshine-y Sega AM2 feel to it, but it has some great online play, stunning graphics, and excellent control. It's strictly free with in app purchases, most of which are reasonable ($2.99 for mission packs), though the per-plane cost is absurd ($1.99 per plane, I say pick a favorite and stick with it, P38 lightning FTMFW!). Since the base game is free and gives access to samples of every mode, there's really no reason for every iPhone owner to try it out.
figured I should re-post this in this thread since it's incredibly relevant:
Some games to look into:
Skies of Glory
it even has free online play! there's also a really nice single player experience. It's sort of like a deeper, more simmy Propeller Arena.
Street Fighter 4
While not a replacement for a console version, it does its job. A great game to get if a friend at work/school/whatever has an iPhone for between class/lunch/break 2 player fun.
Minigore/Guerilla Bob
most people prefer Minigore over Guerilla Bob because the 1 hit=1 kill formula works better than the several hit formula of Guerilla Bob (multi-hit enemies slows the game down too much IMO), but Guerilla Bob offers a longer game. Both games prove touch-based virtual control pads don't have to suck
All-in-1 Gamebox
sort of like a 99¢ compilation of flash games, it's a good smattering of clones of Contra, Super Mario Bros., Canabalt, etc. and a few commercial games like AC-130 sniper (which alone makes it worth the price of admission)
:Shift:
While it's actually a free flash game if you play it on a PC, it's totally worth paying 99¢ to have this game on your iPhone/iPod. It's actually one of my favorite platforming puzzle games EVER. It stomps all over Echochrome for PSP IMO.
One Way Home
A very innovative game that is a good example of a game that couldn't be played on any other system that I'm aware of. It's sort of a new take on the platformer. It's not the best game in the world, but it's interesting and I think there's a lite version just to check it out.
Castle of Magic
This is a game that does suffer from a touch d-pad, unfortunately, but it's of minimal inconvenience once you get used to it. It plays like a combination of Mario and Kirby and is a very refreshing 2.5D platformer. Also, unlike the DSiWare version, this is fully 3D rendered.
Modern Combat: Sandstorm
Basically, this is the iPhone version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. With a long single player and online multiplayer, this is a must have game.
Siberian Strike
A very fun 1942/43 style vertical shooter, and it's only 99¢!
Cube
A fun Quake-style multiplayer shooter (against AI only, unfortunately). The control is kinda wonky for no good reason, but hey, it's free (check out the PC version of Assault Cube, which is a Modern Warfare style mod and is also free, it's pretty fun)
GT Racing
Move over Gran Turismo! Seriously one of the best racing sims on ANY system. Real Racing and Need for Speed Shift are also worth checking out, though not as good.
Ferrari GT: Evolution
Take Outrun 2's gameplay and put it in a circuit-style racing and you have Ferrari GT: Evolution. However, you pretty much have to use the virtual wheel control as the other options are garbage (it was an early iPhone game).
4X4 Jam
One of the best off-road racing games I've ever played. They really nailed the physics. The gameplay is somewhat shallow and generic as it's mostly point A to point B flag-to-flag racing, but free roaming is alot of fun thanks to the excellent physics engine. It makes Test Drive: Off Road and 4X4 Evolution look like stiff, poorly programmed garbage.
Trace
Make your own platforms to get from point A to point B. Best of all, it's free! probably the best free game for the iPhone, in fact.
Top Gun
Think After Burner and you've pretty much got it. Much better than the PSP After Burner IMO.
Cobra Command
Excellent port of the Laserdisc classic. One of the few FMV games that went beyond "push left now." One to pick up just to see the great animation and presentation. It really reminds me of GI Joe back in the day.
Touchgrind
Some people complain its too short or just a tech demo, but if you like screw around games where you make your own fun (or actually skateboard), it doesn't get much better than this. I probably have more hours on this game than any of my other iPhone games (but then again, I actually skateboard, so...).
Home Run Battle
Take Baseball Stars 2 for the Neo Geo, render it in 3D, add online play, and throw out the boring pitching and base play, and you get Home Run Battle. Something about this game just makes you want to keep climbing the ranks and improving your character.
Driver
A visually upgraded release of the original Driver. The controls are kinda screwy, which is why I recommend the virtual d-pad controls, but once you get used to them, they flow naturally. I love the original Driver, so this was right up my alley.
Space Invaders: Infinity Gene
a somewhat interesting shooter with an extremely awesome feature: music driven level generation. You can choose ANY song in your library and it will generate a level based on an algorithm. Fast songs will generate different levels from slow songs, etc.
Meteor Blitz
Should be called "Asteroids: Perfect" because that's what it is.
Chuck Norris: Bring on the Pain
Not a great game, but being one big Chuck Norris joke, it's worth the 99¢ asking price.
NES Synth
not a game, but it's a freakin NES synthesizer FTW!
For more games, you can't really go wrong with Gameloft, they blow my mind with an excellent new release almost weekly.
I recently downloaded this little app:
Bump
http://www.appbite.com/wp-content/up...ew-150x150.jpg
I did so just for fun after a buddy of mine picked up a 3Gs. After messing around for a bit, we discovered that the app is actually quite useful. Let's just say, for example, that you go out with some of your friends for a night of drinking. You're buddy, let's call him "Joe", has a couple of lady friends that make it out. You strike up a good conversation with one of them, and before the night is over, you're picking up good vibes.
Then all of a sudden, you're idiot friend "Tyler" decides to get sick, and gets kicked out of a bar. Because you're nursing Tyler back to health, you somehow get separated from Joe and his lady friends. The next day, thanks to bump, you can get all of Joe's info on your one girl with the Bump app.
Just a hypothetical situation...
Obviously, you can always just ask your buddy for the number, but bump makes things easy, quick, and complete. The number doesn't just transfer over, but the call-picture, email address, etc...
Not necessary, but nice.
Updated App
Sonic has now been updated and runs very smooth and almost just like the cart. "almost" If you was holding off because of bad reviews nows the time to treat your self
I tested the game on iphone4 (iOS4) so if anyone else has updated or bought Sonic recently let us no how it runs.
He'll probably let you give him a handy if you ask him.
Ecco the Dolphin has just gone live on the app store... (for me anyway)
Yeah... give a little uvula tickle to his genitals...
I'm sure he'll let you be the president of the fan club if you keep it up.
