PSP2 just doesnt sound right..bet they drop that name
How about PlayStation Handheld? The word "Portable" made about as much sense as Virtual Boy being called "Portable". The PSP was a monster. All this assuming the PSP2 would be smaller, so PSH would make sense. :)
read that name out loud. That would be the most awkwardly named game system of all time. "Did you hear about the new Playstation Handheld?" "I'm sorry, two Christmases passed since you started saying the name and I lost interest in what you were saying"
PSP Next or something to that effect would be more likely.
And portable doesn't mean it fits in your pocket, it means it's not a full fledge console with multiple hookups and corded controllers. A laptop computer is a "portable computer" and you sure as hell can't tote that in your back pocket.
When I first got the original PSP, I was surprised by how much smaller it was in person than how it appeared in advertisements. But now that I've gotten the PSP 3000, I see how bulky (and heavy) the original was.
I 50% agree. The PSP's library, outside of a few stellar examples, is kinda disappointing.
Yeah, I didn't mean that the library was great. It is disappointing in many ways, but it fills out the gaps in the DS lineup, and both 'collectively' they're better.
DS doesn't have any good fighting games, racing games, shooters, etc. The ones on PSP kick enough ass to be on par or better than traditional consoles this generation.(Outside of Online game play, consoles are shit.) The RPG's are mediocre with a few being good, DS gets more of everything, but both are pretty equal.
If you own only both the hand helds, IMO you'll have access to more than half of the best games of the past 5 years.
Well, that I'll agree with 100%. I was thinking that myself, in fact.
Haven't you played Bleach? It's supposed to be awesome.
How bout Playstation Mini?
I think that's already the name of the series of mini games available for download from PSN, isn't it?
Let him work, you can't rush a god.
No joke, the transformer blew outside my house. :D
The Gaming God's bad karma was unleashed in it's full fury when I stuck in my USB-microSD dongle.
Edit: Not a fan of the Bleach game. It's got an EO mode/thing going on with the touch screen super move buttons that cool down.
The power up cards that randomly pop up the same way throw roadblocks on your opponent's movement/abilities. I appreciate the depth of what's going on in the game, but I'm not a fan of the anime at all. It's pretty good though.
Time to get around to playing Might & Magic & Ragnarok, they might be on my buy list next week. :p
The PSP is a good size. The only problem is it's too wide for pockets, but it feels mostly right on the hands, and it's not much bigger than a DS lite. And while the older PSP models have blurry screens, the screen is big enough to see well. If you want a monster, try the Game Gear for a "handheld" console.
If my gaming time was spent playing just handhelds, I'd be pretty disappointed.
Have you played God of War on the PSP? Everything just looks wrong with the screen, the characters look oddly thin and it's almost too dark, even on a PSP 3000.
Beyond the quirky games like Nintendogs, Trama Center and Ace Attorney, your left with a bunch of titles that have to cut corners to fit onto a handheld system. A game like Disgaea works well, since it's not a reflex based game, while something like Gradius Collection would be better suited for a console with an arcade stick.
I'd gladly play Mass Effect, Culdcept Saga or Fallout 3 over the whole library of RPGs on the handhelds. Most of those RPGs have very dated gameplay and feel too much like I've been there before. I love how great Lunar looks on the PSP, but the battle system it far too dated, and it quite literally puts me to sleep.
There's no way any of the racers, or fighters can compete with the consoles. The nub on the PSP is almost useless as a steering device, as you'll often have to readjust your thumb throughout the game and the frame-rates are in the 15 range at best. Grand Theft Auto: LCS is an alright game, but it doesn't even compare to GTAIV.
Handhelds are a nice diversion, especially when you're out and about, but they aren't the kind of gaming I'd like to do on a normal basis. I'd much rather play the PS3, 360, or older PS2 games.
I'd love to know what kind of consumer research group Sony used when they came up with the idea of the GO.
The DLC is just as expensive as the retail side, the screen is smaller, and the price was way too steep for a device that is in a round-about-way in line with the Ipod touch. They would have pretty much split the PSP market in half, if the Go was actually a success. It's bad enough when you have a somewhat succesful handheld, with over 25 million users, yet most retail outlets only have about 2 small rows in a case to sell the games for it. The Go would pretty much kill what little space retail was giving the PSP.
