Which one to purchase first, Sega Saturn or a Sega Dreamcast? Both come with one controller, unlocked, to play all regions and the apropriate cables, plus some games and are exactly at the same price.
I have money for only one though... :|
What are your recommendations?
I love the saturn but the dc is definately better. They both have great 2d games but 3d games just weren't very good before the dc
Dreamcast: it's cheaper, you can burn games, plays NES, Master System and NeoGeoCD games, it's HDTV compatible thanks to its VGA support, it's the home of Power Stone 1 & 2, Virtua Tennis 1, Daytona 2001, an awesome number of excellent shmups, and one billion of classic 2D fighting games by Capcom and SNK.
Saturn: way more expansive, requires mod chip to play backups, Action Replay 4-in-1 to play Imports, Saturn 3D pad recommended, Home of Sega Rally 1, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, Shinobi Legends, Saturn Bomberman, Legend of Thor / Legend of Oasis, Guardian Heroes, an awesome number of excellent shmups, and one billion of classic 2D fighting games by Capcom and SNK.
Yeah go for the Dreamcast first to get started, then go for a Saturn. Be careful when getting controllers for DC the L R triggers can break easy.
You should get the Saturn for one reason and one reason alone...
Segata Sanshiro!
Segata Sanshiro may be the greatest hero ever made, but even he can't beat cheap/free games on the Dreamcast. Not to mention you don't have to go through the hassle of importing to get to the meat of the DC, but you have to on the Saturn.
True NONSENSE! Segata Sanshiro endorsing a product is like Jesus blessing a steak sandwich until it turns into an even better steak sandwich! Segata Sanshiro might even be able to compete with the awesome of Raul Julia! Exactly, he was defeated at the hands of the Dreamcast's killer move: Free games. ;) Then the Dreamcast was defeated at the hands of Sony's most evil move: The Hype Machine, which boosts all status up by a hundred. Once the enemy is defeated, the status return to their original numbers of 1 or 0. :(
Also be careful with used controllers in general for DC. The Controller PCB has an onboard fuse that is easily blown. Big hassle when your console won't recognize any controllers because you plugged in somebody's defective used controller that proceeded to blow the fuse. :mad:Quote:

Well the thing is the Dreamcast requires no mods to play burned software (but IMO it's a bitch to write discs for. But don't listen to me, others have had success) whereas the Saturn needs you to the equivalent of bending over backwards while lifting weights to get it to play burned games. Not to mention not all the Saturn rips you find online are good rips, unlike Dreamcast.Quote:

I think i'll go Dreamcast then. I have a friend that has a Saturn and i'm pretty sure he'll give it to me if i pester him enough. Thank you all for the comments!
If you have the option of getting an 'unlocked' Saturn, take it.
Dreamcasts are a dime a dozen. I can't believe all the recommendations here are for it.
