Saturn or Dreamcast?

Indeed, the DC's are a dime in a dozen. It may have died-out too early, but it sold a helluvalot of units. You won't find as many Saturns though. Both will run you the trouble of having to fix that laser eventually, but if it's around the same price (as it sounds), then the Saturn it is.

You won't find that many (or as many) in the wild. Also, here's another more important point, Dreamcasts or Saturns (but especially Dreamcasts) shouldn't cost you more than 20 dollars, complete. But I guess we're talking about more than 20 dollars here, so if you were going to spend more than that, then spend it on a Saturn. Again, the DC's are a dime a dozen (and that's not me saying it's the right cost, it's just that it is terribly underappreciated. But then again, so is the Saturn).

By the way, the Saturns have started to pick-up their price range, so go for it if it's low enough.

If the Saturn is chipped go that route. You could also burn games for it with the chip.

Import Saturn games, if you want a shitload of Fighters and Shooters. The domestic releases are far better on the Saturn, than they are for the Dreamcast.


Domestic Saturn

Shining: The Holy Ark is one of the best RPGs you'll ever play, and as great as Grandia II is, it's nowhere near the greatness of STHA. Shining Force III is one of the best strategy RPGs of its time. Last Gladiators is one of the better video pinball games out there. Sega Rally is greatness. The Panzer Dragoon series is outstanding. Virtua Cop > House of the Dead. Gun Griffon (forget that garbage that was released on the PS2 and Xbox) is one of the best mech games you'll ever play. Enemy Zero is one of the better horror games out there. Wing Arms is a cool arcade style flight game, that was way under-appreciated. And Last Gladiators (Layer Section) is one of the best vertical shooters ever made.

I have about the same amount (@75 each) of titles on both systems. The DC has some excellent games, but the library as a whole has a bunch genres that were either poorly covered, or non-existant. The Saturn, on the other hand, has just about every base covered. Most of the Capcom fighters can be played on MAME, so those aren't as big of a deal as they were 10 years ago.

If the Saturn is chipped then go for it. DC will always be there for mad cheap.

Oh, well... the auction on the saturn just ended. And i missed it for minutes. But thanks for the recommendations!

I think i'll go for the Dreamcast for now, and when the right Saturn appears, i'll grab it without thinking twice. I live in Brasil, and here both are suficiently rare. i can get Megadrive bundles for US$20,00 but Saturns and Dreamcasts are about US$100,00 each.

It's a price I'll have to pay!

Dreamcast, no question, it is by far the best system for someone living in a region with scarce games thanks to its ability to play CD-Rs without modification. NES, Neo CD, and some Genesis emulation is a huge factor as well. The DC may be the best single system for someone to own if they're on a tight budget.

say whaaa? I've never heard or seen of broken L and R triggers except on the more cheaply made 3rd party controllers.

Oddly enough, I've seen a lot more saturn stuff locally than DC. Granted, only games, no consoles, but I've seens a fair number of saturn titles liek BUG!, Tomb Raider, Virtua Cop, and a biunch of random sports titles while I've only seen a couple DC sports titles and several SegaNET browser discs at Good Will. There was actually what I thought was a copy of Dragon Force I was goign to by to sell, box with only slight cracks and the manual, but I found Virtua Cop inside and didn'y want to bother to thry selling just the box and manual in attempt to make a signficant profit from the $4 they asked. (I doubt I could have sold the loose Virtua Cop for much either -epecially after shipping)

The only hardware I see in thrift stors and such is PSXs, Genesis, SNES, NES, N64, GC, and occasionally Xbox and PS2. (the latter often loose and with rediculous price tags, liek $39.99 for an xbox w/out cables or controllers) Odd that the genesis, psx, SNES, N64, and GC all seem to get priced between $15 and $20 and usually have at least some hook-ups and one or more controllers. (I kind of regret passing up an N64 with memory expansion and 2 controllers for $15 a few months ago)

I'm going to say Saturn because I've had more fun with it than with Dreamcast. Dreamcast is nice too and I absolutely love the controller but Saturn gets more playtime... MD of course gets most playtime ^^

I'm checked out one of the Goodwill's in Franklin,TN which is one of the more wealthier parts of town and they had 1 Genesis game and 1 SNES game. Both were boxed but I already have Sonic 3D Blast and the SNES game was a Golf game.

My vote goes for Dreamcast. It was a fantastic system with an excellent selection of great games. IMO the Saturn barely had any good, let alone great games. There is a special place in hell for the Saturn.

The Saturn has a ton of hidden gems that very few have played, while the DC has about 30 titles everyone knows about, but after that the list falls pretty short. Hang-On GP is one Saturn title that I have a feeling very few have even heard about, or played.

Arent you trying to show him good games for the saturn because thats one dreadful game just look how blocky the racers are! and the gameplay is pretty bad just looking at the guy hitting the walls reminds me checkered flag lol. Theres a better 3d superbike racing game on the saturn i have cant remember what its called tho.

that game looks like shit! Moto Racer for PSX beats the pants off that mess!

I feel like everytime the Saturn comes up, people feel a need to defend it but never come up with anything that doesn't have a far superior similar game that came out around the same time. NiGHTS is like the only Saturn game worth mentioning.

As for DC, I've burned over 50 discs and counting, so I don't know what all of this "list falling short" nonsense is about. The whole DC library is gold, I find it a better challenge to find the bad DC games than the good ones.
