I came across this contraption and it looks pretty neat! A lot nicer sounding than the portable Genesis clones, plus it plays all the others systems as well, AND it supports save states.

I saw a video for this on Youtube. Apparently the Genesis emulation is not very good, but NES is about spot on. Hold on, let me find that for you.
Sounds like it might be better once you install Linux (one of the distros is called Dingux, I think?) and other people's ported emulators instead. Anyone familiar with the alternative emulators available for this thing? PSP might still be the best bet for portable emulation but this certainly has a smaller form factor going for it.
I totally agree with that. If I just want portable emulation I'd rather spend $80 on this than $160 on a PSP, plus all other mods necessary. I'd like to know more about alternative emulators too... the only SNES and Genesis emulators I know jack about are ZSNES and Genecyst, which I only used once years ago.Quote:

I think you should get a used PSP 2000 (or 1000) instead (can be had for about $100 used).
NesterJ and Picodrive are all you need for good times to be had by all. Granted, you need custom firmware, but that is SOOOO easy to do nowadays.
Modding costs practically nil. All you need is a $6 pandora battery and an optional extra memory card if you want to have the install software around at all times (I bought a 1 GB for $8 to have it around). A PSP can also play PSP games (OMGZ!) and PSX games perfectly. You just have to convert the PSX games with PSX2PSP.

all you need for custom firmware on a PSP. And no, this is NOT illegal, it's no different than installing Linux on a PC.
To use that Magic Memory Stick maker, just plug in your PSP via USB cable with a memorystickproduo card in the slot, open up the installer, and create it (I recommend reformatting the card while you do it, just to be sure). Rain's custom firmware installer is a god send, it's the easiest OS install I've ever done, it makes installing Windows look like neurosurgery.
Wow... that doesn't seem too bad at all! I'd probably opt for a 2000 model because the screen is a lot nicer than the 1000's screen. That and the screen will DEFINITELY be larger than the Dingoo's screen.
Will this let me display the games on my HDTV too if I get the component out video cables? :D
On a related note, does Picodrive support ROMs in .bin format?
I've been thinking about a Didj really hard lately, they seem to be just as nice or nicer than the Dingoo (bust still not as nice as the PSP for certain things). When I know more I'll post about it in a new thread, no hijacking here.
I have a Dingoo. It really is not all that bad. The built in firmware can play any media file in existence that lacks DRM! The NES emulation is perfect. All the others are bad.
For any other console, there is Dingux. Very easy to get going. Picodrive does a great job with emulating the genesis. The hardware build quality is high. Its sturdy and simple. The screen, surprisingly, has a great picture. And the battery life is excellent too, at about 7 hours for me. 4GB of internal memory and 4GB on a SD card make it awesome. It has a 400MHZ MIPS CPU with hardware MPEG decode. The FM radio is surprisingly not junk!
Its a neat device that surprised me at what chinese electronics engineering can accomplish.
