Somewhere from 5-7 hours, maybe? I might be wrong, but it lasts for a good amount of time. What games came with it? :D
Dang... that sounds good to me.
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Alien Storm
Altered Beast
Arrow Flash
Bonanza Bros
Columns
Columns III
Cracked Down
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
ESWAT: City Under Siege
Flicky
Fatal Labyrinth
Golden Axe
Gain Ground
Jewel Master
Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
Sonic 3D Blast- Flickies' Island
Sonic and Knuckles
Sonic Spinball
For $60 including s/h, I'm thinking it'd be worth it as long as the unit feels solid and well built.
Anyone have one? Thoughts?
thks bunches
Oh yeah, I forgot games were built into it. Duh. I was gonna say, if you got all of thosse CIB, you got a great deal. Still an okay deal. I think they usually go for that much anyways.
It sucks.
It's not based on real Mega Drive / Genesis hardware. Instead it uses some underpowered ARM CPU to emulate the original hardware. It has a shitload of compatibility problems all over the place. Sound emulation being the most prominent issue.
My advice: Stick with a Nomad.
Or if you insist on buying crap, at least go with a Gopher as it allows you to play ROMs via SD cards.
The unit itself feels solid enough, but the shell around the cart port seems just a little flimsy. If you're not an 8 year-old boy, it shouldn't be a problem. If you don't plan on playing football with it in your pocket, it shouldn't be a problem. :D
It looks really nice. It's very sexy - you shouldn't have any complaints about the case style. Most people like the dpad and buttons, as well. About the only REAL complaint is the audio. As mentioned numerous times, the emulation of the FM chip isn't very good, being noticeably off pitch.
Some games don't work perfectly and the sound is a little off- mainly when it's at top volume, but overall I like it. The battery life beats the Nomad, so it was worth it to me.
I'll check this Nomad out... this doesn't sound cool.
I'd read it had some compatibility issues.
I honestly didn't plan on inserting any of my Genesis games into it... just wanted it for a mobile '20 game' system with the games it came with and for $60, that seemed pretty cool.
As far as you know... does it play the 20 games it comes with just fine or is there retarded amounts of slow down due to it not having real Genesis hardware inside?
The sound being off doesn't sound cool either.
:|
dang :? That's a load of poppycock.
Nice to hear the unit is solid enough... yeah, I treasure all of my gear.
Thanks for that feedback.
thks, guys :o
ALL emulated Genesis systems have problems with the emulation, most notably with the audio. You have your choice: old used Nomad for perfect game play, or new emulated Genesis with flaws. If you don't care about using real carts, the Gopher is indeed (probably) a better choice:

Your only other choice is a handheld powerful enough to use a decent emulator like PicoDrive. Such handhelds include the GP2X or PSP, both of which have great versions of PicoDrive.
The best route for portable Genesis fun is a PSP 2000 with custom firmware and Picodrive. Great sound, great compatibility, great fun. The only downside is 4 face buttons instead of 6, making some 6 button games awkward (Street Fighter, but I guess you could just ditch medium punch/kicks).
If you can afford it, get a Wiz. The OLED screen makes Genny games look astounding and it also plays Sega CD games. 32X emulation is also in the works.
The dpad sucks. It's actually split diagonally into two parts.
The whole unit is very lightweight and feels cheapish.
I'd probably get one when they come down in price. Bad sound emulation and compatibility problems doesn't bode so well with me at the price suggested above.
While it's true that the dpad is split diagonally in two, in practice it makes no difference to games. Whether it "sucks" or not depends a lot on what kind of pad you like. I like this kind... it's better for platformers or fighters.
It is lightweight, but I dispute the "cheapish" tag. That would be the RetroGen. The GenMobile actually feels fairly good... looks good, too.Quote:

Just get a Neo Myth & a Nomad..end of story
I did a battery test today - I took my fully charged GenMobile and started it playing my Sonic 2 cart with the volume set to "low" (easily audible in a quiet room, but not a noisy one). It lasted 6 hours and 20 minutes before the screen dimmed and the emulation went out to lunch.
does it have full stereo output or mono only? did i miss anything or did this site completely ignore this clone? a full sega gear article wouldve been nice, i would write one if i had the unit.
There are other threads on both the RetroGen and GenMobile. You just need to click the search button. :)
Down-left registers fine on mine. I think it's the way you use the pad that's getting you - it sounds like you're used to keeping your thumb on the left button, but still being able to force the dpad down because they're all tied together. Sounds like you're more a fan of the RetroGen dpad where all the buttons are on a single rocker.

no thanks
who said anything about the retrogen?Quote:

but i guess your right who would want to read a detailed writeup on the system written by a trustworthy source when i can shovel through a ton of irrelevent s***. just f*** it.
The RetroGen and GenMobile are the same thing with minor differences. The RetroGen is a little cheaper, in appearance, construction, and price. You read ALL the threads on something so you get the most information. Don't go by one review, no matter how "trustworthy" you think the reviewer to be. You'll never get all the info by trusting one source.
You start by tossing all one liners with no backup. For example, if you see a post that says something like "It sucks!" without any supporting discussion of why, just ignore it. Look for info that is important for you. Do you like the music on the Genesis enough that it being off will irritate you? If so, then when you get through a couple posts mentioning how bad the audio emulation is, you will know it isn't right for you. Instead, when you read that, did you just go "meh"? Then you keep reading.
How about the FC3 Plus, I saw it had better audio on the Genesis side
Totally different system. The FC3 plus uses Mega Drive / Genesis hardware while RetroGen/GenMobile/Gopher/Firecore/etc. use a 32-bit ARM CPU to emulate a MD/G.
It's also not a handheld.
Absolutely, this is the only way to go. I got me a PSP2000 silver, modded and loaded with around 5000 games from all the classic consoles, and the emulation for the Genesis especially is nigh perfect. The 6-button games can be played with the use of the R & L buttons; takes some adjustment for those of course. But the tradeoff is more than worth it. These single-console handheld clones with rotten emulation and sound are pretty worthless IMO, unless you can get one for super cheap (and super cheap ain't $60) and don't mind if the emulation is lousy, or that you can only play games from one console on it.
Some people on here say that the D-pad for the PSP sucks, but that only applies to the PSP1000 as far as I'm concerned, which does have a D-pad that isn't the greatest, although it's certainly workable. The PSP2000 D-pad is vastly improved and works just peachy.
Not the only reason I have my PSP, but a big part of it. Emulators for MSX, 2600, 7200, NES, SNES (not as good for some things... very hard console to emulate), Genesis, SEGA CD, N64 (works great for a few things), GBA (really good emulator), etc. There's even an old 680x0 based Mac emulator (Basilisk II) ported by yours truly! Want to play some of those old color Mac games like Spectre on the PSP? You can!
The ONLY problem I have had with mine is the sound being off, it also had an sd card slot so you can put roms on it and play them. I have heard of a few compadibility issues but i have of yet to have any.
PS - If you are looking to save some money you can buy them factory direct on amazon. :)
The broken D-Pad on this GenMobile is enough to keep me away from it...
Oh well, it was looking like an impulse buy anyway... not anymore thanks to this thread, lol.
thks, guys
;)
Well, for me I think it will not be bad at all.
Like I said in my presentation, I didn't played too many Genesis games so I can't compare to the original and get angry about a crappy sound.
And the 20 built-in games will make me discover new Sega titles! Just like Alien Storm, Golden Axe or more. I'll be able to replay Ecco after all these years (When I first played it, I didn't understood anything... Probably because I couldn't read English yet)!
Of course, the quality and some games compatibility problems bugg me, but I think it would be a nice purchase.
If you were me, a guy who don't know many Genesis games (And don't have a lot of money too! Not enough to get a Nomad with reloading batteries, it's so expansive!), what choice will you make? And yes, I know it's difficult. :P
Thanks!
I like mine. Got it from gamegavel.com
pros:
Nice size for a handheld Genesis
Great battery life
Lightweight
20 built in games
6 button pad
plays us, euro, and jap region games
tv out
cons:
iffy sound on many titles
no lock on compatibility (game genie, s&k)
dsp virtua racer not working
So yea there's a few quirks, but it's a nice handheld for the price. Cheaper than buying a nomad, and better than nomad in some areas.
Yeah, it's also do not support the Mega-CD and 32X. And you can't play multiplayer too. It's too bad.
Sure thing, I wouldn't be able to get a Nomad, because of it's too high price for me. And I was buying one, I should buy games later on! What I like about this system, is the 20 built-in games.
I think when I'll go to my store for buying Genesis games, I'll bring my GenMobile with me and ask if I could test them before buy. :)
I'm still interested in getting one.
Do you know some Genesis/Megadrive games who has the save feature? I only know Sonic 3 and Phantasy Star 4 (Never played).
Thanks
If you want a Genesis just buy a Genesis =P
A GenMobile, not a Genesis. :p
Because the lack of save system bugg me a lot. Buying a Genesis, a system that can't save most of the time...
A GenMobile too can't save but I think I'll play more on a portative Genesis than a regular one.
And I like the 20 built-in games too on the GenMobile, like I said.
Do you know a few games with the save feature?
I tried one of these out at a local retro store.
For me, the Dpad was unmanageable. I found diagonals very difficult. I have smaller hands, however, so this may not be an issue for some. The other oddity with the Dpad is that each direction appears to be a single button and not a single pad under a plastic mask (think Playstation controllers).
The emulation was OK. Most of the sound problems would probably only be noticed through headphones and the screen is too tiny to see any graphical discrepancies. Of course, don't expect to play specialty carts like Virtua Racing.
I'm not absolutely positive about this, but the damned thing doesn't have a 2nd controller port. This instantly made the system a no-buy for me. It may be awkward in practice, but what the hell is the point of lugging a portable Genesis around if I don't have the option for 2 player Streets of Rage?
Yeah, I recently bought Streets of Rage 1 on the Wii Virtual Console. It's way better at two players!
What I found frustrating also about the D-Pad is that playing Dragon Ball Z would be difficult without diagonals! I haven't tried however.
The system seems to be only availible in the US? I ask to all my electronics stores if they have one, and they don't even know what it is (I reside in Quebec).
