Lol. I too have found an interest in Caprica. I found it hard to get into BattleStar Galactica, but Caprica really makes it all so sweet. I can't wait to see how this first season turns out. :D

Fantasy can be understood in like manner, where the main theme is driven by an element/phenomenon that can only be explained via a fantastic/super-natural response.
Horror, on the other hand, can be one or the other, both, or none at all. Usually, a "monster" or "set of monsters" will drive the story. For ease of classification, simply try to define the "monster" and you'll have your genre (or mix, thereof).
Examples: (In Horror films)
Science Fiction Only:
1. "The Relic:" The monster is a chymera that arose from an ingested substance that acted on one's hypothalamus to begin secreting hormones that would change the organism into whatever animal's own hypothalamus it would eat. The result was, well, a chymera. This is Science Fiction, nothing else at all, even if there even was a religious ritual that took place during the ingestion of said substance. The science behind this is fictional, thus it is not currently available to us.
Fantasy Only:
2. "Bram Stoker's Dracula:" The monster is a vampire that arose as the result of an "unholy" pact. This is fantasy. There is no science behind this.
Mixture of Both: (Sci-Fi/Fantasy)
3. "Jason X:" Here, the supernaturaly(fantastically)-explained monster, Jason, is said to have been captured, but cryogenically frozen (Science Fiction) because scientists are unable to find a way to kill him. The film takes us further into the future where the monster awakes IN SPACE IN THE FUTURE (Science Fiction). The fact that the explanation comes down to "cellular regeneration" is not necessarily science fiction here, though, as it is actually understood as a product of his continuous, hellish resuscitations.
None at All: (Just Horror)
4. "The Dentist:" Here the story is neither driven by Fictional Science or Fantasy/Supernatural-Forces. The "Monster" is a psychopath who simply enjoys killing.

Bah. Christopher Eccleston is my Doctor - a slightly off-kilter, cerebral guy who's haunted by the things he'd seen and done in the past sounds yawn-worthy, but he played it really, really well.

I love Futurama but it's more a comedy than a Sci-fi most of the time. Plus I didn't want to inc animated series!
I've only seen Fringe a few times but it was awesome when I did. I only inc because I couldn't think of any others. I never got into most Sci Fi series like Doctor Who, Stargate, Battlestar etc. Just loved Star Trek for some reason.
I just decided I want to make special, honorable mention to Sci Fi series that were cancelled before their time:

i enjoyed quantum leap as a kid and i saw one of the actors from the show in a movie last night. does anyone know if the show still comes on any channels?

Millennium was great for about a season and a half. Forget about the end of season two or later.
