Is my Genesis game a reseal?

I recently got a sealed copy of The Lion King for Genesis. The shrink wrap is broken through a bit where the tab is at the top and also the wrap meets at a folding in the back rather than being wrapped in one whole. I hope this explanation makes sense because I have no idea how to describe it accurately. I hope these pictures help. Someone please tell me if this is a reseal or not. I assume there are people who can spot this stuff easily(I see it in the NES community a lot).

Looks like the real deal to me.

It looks pretty crappy to me.

I only have one sealed Genesis game, and it's Jungle Strike in the cardboard box. The seal looks much cleaner than the one I see in that picture.

I don't think Sega ever changed their sealing process between plastic and cardboard boxes. All the pictures of sealed plastic games I've ever seen look pretty much the same as plastic wrap that was on my copies of 36 Great Holes and Cosmic Carnage.

Looks legit. Most of the later games were shrink wrapped with that opening in the back that you can simply pull off instead of cutting a hole yourself with a knife. You can usually tell if something has been resealed if there's what is called "browning" in some areas. That's where something hot like a blowdryer was set too long in that area. They will never have that flap in the back either.

It could very well be legit, but I'm seeing crooked seal lines and a couple of balled up spots on the middle of the seal. The vertical crease near the middle doesn't look right either.

My sealed game (bought it Toys R' Us) does not have that vertical flap.

I must point out that many of these wrapping jobs were performed by the retailers themselves. I know of a few companies that did thusly: Toys R Us, Best Buy and the "late" Service Merchandise, to name three.

I do agree that anyone could've performed that seal job, though, but I still mark that it looks legit. ;).

I guess that would explain why my game doesn't have that vertical flap. ;)

One thing to look for is if the shrink wrap is soft or it feels brittle. I remember new game back in the day felt much softer than things shrink wrapped local used music stores who also sold games.

I forgot to mention that the sealing on the back isn't perfectly straight since the sealing has come loose from the top where the tab sticks out. So the upper half of the folding is loose and looks balled and tilted compared with the rest below it. In fact I'm able to pull it back and touch the inside because of how undone it is. Probably isn't exactly in the proper condition to claim as factory sealed if I were to sell it, though it is still brand new I'm sure.

I can't imagine what it feels like to want a sealed game... in regard to paying jacked up prices for something that could very well not be legit.

I doubt he paid much for a sealed Lion King. That game is about as common as Madden.

Open it up and check for insertion marks on the cartridge.

This isn't exactly Neo Geo. Genesis cartridges don't often get apparent scratches and I own tons of them. I would look for label imperfections instead but that's just me.

Now if we were talking about Master System, then yeah you would look for insertion marks. I don't understand why these little cartridges are so prone to getting scuffed. :confused:
