You know I'm talking about Sonic 2 right?
:o
What's the deal with Sonic 4, guys? Is it DL only at this point and which Consoles is it planned for?

That is your opinion, and you are entitled to it. I'm not a big fan of 3D platformers, but even then, I don't think SA or SA2 fare particularly well. If SA had just been Sonic/Tails levels, I'd say it could have been a good game, as it stands now it's average at best. The last great Sonic game, as far as I'm concerned, was Sonic & Knuckles. It all went downhill from there, and Sega's track record for the last 10 years or so is enough to convince me not to buy anything with "Sonic" in the title these days.
I'm sorry, this comment is just so ignorant and wrong that it actually pisses me off.
The closest thing you have to a bad level design in Sonic CD is Tidal Tempest Act 2, and even it's not actually down to average, it's just the closest to average.
The level design in Sonic CD is on a whole other plane of evolution, especially when you consider that some areas are only accessible via time travel in specific places. Sure, some things may seem "all over the place" weird, or random, but it's because they need to make all the time zones fit together. There's four per level...that's pretty deep.
And designing all the places to put enemies and boxes just so you can keep going insanely fast...it's so amazing.
Sonic CD has a meta critic score of 100%
No other Sonic or Mario game can claim that. Sonic CD is too good, and if you think it has bad level design, it's evidence of some L2P required.
Oh sweet! Can I have mine in the form of rep?? I love rep...lol

Shouldn't this thread be merged into the Official Sonic 4 thread?
Plus, Sonic 4 is bad for more reasons than the mine cart level.
1. Spin dashing up a hill and getting launched takes you out of the spinning state, so you won't be able to bounce off of enemies or item boxes.
2. Homing attack takes away all speed when used on an enemy.
3. Super floaty jump
4. The screen is zoomed in a bit more than Sonic 3/CD, feels like Sonic Advance...I can't see what's coming, I have to know it's there already - which is OK sometimes, since you can't always react first time in Sonic 3/CD, but it's all the time in Sonic 4. You have no idea what's going to hit you, because the screen is so zoomed in.
5. Cosmetics (Like how you almost never get to see your fast running animation, or how the explosions just look like orange clouds, or how Robotnik's models look like they're done by a two year old, aka I like to complain/whine some more apparently)
2D Sonic died with Sonic & Knuckles
3D Sonic died with Sonic Adventure 2 (arguably SA1 TBH)
Sonic tried to live again with Sonic Unleashed 1&2, but no one cared (everyone should go and buy both versions of this game, Sonic went out with a bang)
Again

I think people are missing the point of this thread. It isn't "Stop complaining about Sonic 4," it's "Stop complaining about stupid shit." It's okay to complain about something like glitches that are evident in videos or slow speed or the like, but take a look at the pic in the OP again. Whomever made that chart is essentially saying that the only things complainers are complaining about are the way Sonic looks. That's the JOKE.
Joe, from the sounds of your post, you're under the impression that it's already confirmed to be bad. Keep in mind we don't know how Sonic 4 will turn out, so, you know, be cool.
The videos are confirmed to be bad, and that's good enough for me for now.
The videos were also semi confirmed to be basically the final build of the game. (by some article that I don't have a link to)
Which is sad as sad could be you know, cause I wish it was an early beta, since that's exactly what it looks and feels like.
If you don't like the motion controlled carts, don't get the platform that uses it.Wii / PS3
Get the X360 manly version

If you think it will be good, I wouldn't do this
I hope Sega doesn't include an option to play as Classic Sonic, just to spite all the bitchy fans. I went over to the Sega forums a while back and all I saw were banners in sigs bitching about every aspect of the game. If it's a good game, who cares how it looks?
Yea, I only listed cosmetics as reason number 5.
The rest of the reasons are perfectly legit reasons that the game sucks.
Really?! to the point it pisses you off? For one ignorant is used way out of context and wrong is surely your matter of opinion.
Sega CD apart from the intial stage gets slowly worse. Almost to the point it feels as though they either got bored making it or ran out of ideas. Only a few later stages are redemable.
For one I completely understand they want you too explore further I get this, I also understand they want you too shift time zones to finish said levels and also change paths and the course of history/future. The time travel was well implemented for sure but like I said the later levels just seemed to doodle off into random placments with little or no meaning.
Cheap time travel tricks which kind of or twist you arm like repeat segments after hitting a 'future' board where your then forced into a continual loop of spring board molestation they do this on several levels just to make it 'feel' like a bigger level because all you really wanted to do was travel into the 'past' make it all good and then go into the 'future' and then once more into the 'good future', this terrible design could of been expanded on further in an easier fashion as opposed to cheap tricks to make use of the travel feature, but its so subliminal its never really noticed! they make it so easy to travel into areas they wan't and almost impossible for those 'you' want, its not a challenge its just a waste of time.
The flow again of the later levels is all wrong, PALMTREE PANIC now their is a level worth creaming over, amazing design!! brilliant in everyway overlapped rings, sense of dimension and growth awesome 2D/3D effects, great pathways for timetravel for sonic and all the gizmos you need to show off all those newely designed Sonic Sprites in fact theres so much showing off and muscle flexing that they pretty much used all of Sonic CDs ideas and creativity in the first zone and left the others that followed feeling flat. No other zones stand up to this!
Collision chaos again cheap time travel tricks, Brilliant boss though! but again forced exploration with little flow for sonic and when you get a decent section it cuts off short and just slows the whole level down, Even Sonic 1 had better stage design than this, time travel again manipulated by the developers not used to its full potential.
Tidal has again an unbalanced feeling. Easy time travel not as well thought out as Plamtree panic, flow is alll wrong on this. If people hated labyrinth zone I cannot see how they can contend with this, mostly verticle drops which again spoil slow no decent smooth segments and just feels akward.
Wacky workbench?!!? awful.
Stardust has some gooooood level design, really good, but runs out of steam near the middle.
Metallic madness has some really good ideas, I don't think their is much wrong with this one until you get to the rotating cylinders combined with shitty sticky wheels and tubes with again no flow or direction, its like scrap brain zone and Chemical plant both vomitted a concoction of level tiles in a pot, let them mix, dry and stuck them in a game. again forced and closed off time travel with little or no influence to the main game.
I think 60% of the time travel is thrown in just to get some more dynamic with little thinking. If it wasn't for the good level shit most people wouldnt bother with the time travel aspect...at ALL. Music on the EU/Jap is awsome and the little FMV at the beginning is impressive...but all in all As I said it feels towards the end clunky and rushed. Ive played and owned a copy of this game since release and still have it, I play it often enough as does my kid these are just observations for over 10 years of play on it.
god knows how it got a Meta critic score of 100, but as far as im concerned I dont give a fudgeeeeeeee! im sure plenty will agree.
