My favorite is still the first. Music and sound effects have me so nostalgic. Maybe it's aged badly but I still have a ton of fun playing it. No matter how much they aged. They will always be better than the atrocity that was Beastrider. In another universe Dragon's Crown was the reboot of Golden Axe and it's my dream Vanillaware makes a full on Golden Axe. Dragon's Crown was more of a successor to D&D Arcades.
Golden Axe II (MD) was always my fave, primarily because of the music and the somber atmosphere.
It does have some great music. I probably wouldn't hate it if the first game didn't exist, either - it's just that it feels like more like romhack or a bootleg than a legit sequel.
I agree that as a sequel it leaves much to be desired. It doesn't really do anything to build on the original in a meaningful way. Had it been released today, it would've seemed more like DLC material.Quote:
