Oh, I'm sorry, I just did console repair for 9 months and have an engineering degree, what could I possibly know on the matter? oh yeah, ALOT. I can't tell you how many 360 discs got traded in with horrible radial scratches from the shitty 360 drives, on the other hand, I have seen almost none from PS2s.
And seriously, me get banned? I've been here a long time and I help people with hardware issues all the time, I'm only rude to people once they start spouting off out of their ass with lies or faulty logic or attack me.
Everything you post is completely unfounded and biast against Sony. Really? Sony is the enemy? At least their products work, I have yet to buy anything from MS that wasn't a fail sandwich: horribly buggy OS that crashes constantly? check. Wireless mouse that constantly loses sync due to horribly designed battery compartment? check. RROD? check. horrible disc drives on said RROD console? check. Horrendous scalping for accessories on said RROD console? check. An office suite that suddenly generates thousands of pages when I try to insert a PICTURE? check. Sorry, but when you get burned that many times, you tend to stop speaking well of a company. My PS2 fat still works and it's from about 2001, lets see a 360 last that long b/c I sure haven't seen one even give the impression it will.
The litigation (and recall?) was over drive failures, not damaged discs... And it was significant, at least for a specific batch, but I've NEVER heard of discs being damaged... (of course, to confuse things further, you have both CD and DVD based games on the system and one could fail but leave the other functioning -usually when one of the lasers die)
And it wasn't anywhere near 50%, perhaps 50% of consoles made in a specific short time period. (that's within the warranty period, not after)
Early models of PSX also had problems both due to overheating PSUs causing some warping and plastic drive rails wearing out. (hence some users turing the system upside down)
That didn't extend to later models though.
I think the PS2 Slim had overheating issues early on too, but not as serious. (or was it the external power supply?)
That's what I thought too, but looking around thrift stores, I've seen a fair number of older portable CD players using a mechanism like the Sega CD model 2. (no locking spindle) I think they fell out of favor by the late 90s. (dropped on higher-end models first it seems, so mostly cheaper players past the mid 90s, but I've not paid that close attention, sot it's really anecdotal but I've seen at least half a dozen of those int he last year)
not to be an ass.. but PS2 have been out for a long ass time, they had plenty of time to fix any hardware mistakes it had at first. and as far as I know the 360 no longer scratches discs, so I don't understand the argument, a lot of systems have faults when first released (do you not remember when PS2 had console failures?!?!?). I know you love to give Sony the ol' reach around while you suck off Apple, but seriously dude, stop being such a cry baby with your hatred for MS.
I realize 360 had a ton of faulty consoles, shit I had one. but most consoles do, and hopefully MS learned from all the mistakes with the 360 launch.
every console has good and bad sides, and you know thats true. shit, just enjoy the games and stop whining about it.
and one other thing, no one is forcing you to buy anything MS makes, so I don't see the problem..
Suffice it to say you're wrong. Nothing Sony has ever made even comes close to the initial and ongoing problems with the XBOX 360. PSX, PS2, and PS3 had a few minor issues here and there, but these were quickly and correctly fixed as soon as they were discovered. Microsoft has yet to adequately fix the XBOX 360 hardware. Yes, all consoles have good and bad sides, but in MS's case, it's 95% bad, 5% good. I'm literally in disbelief that anyone would buy a 360 when the PS3 is the alternative.
I don't see how I'm giving someone a reach around when they make quality products that actually work, sounds like due praise to me. I mean, if the stuff I designed had as poor of a reliability record as Microsoft, I'd not only be fired but no one would ever trust the company I work for again. It's just unacceptable. Yet, people still write it off MS's mistakes as "well, it was covered by warranty" and "PS3s are so expensive". I'm not defending Sony or Apple for my sake, I know what's good and what's shit, it's for the benefit of all of the many people that read these forums and never post but take to heart what is said. Also, getting others to see the light=more support for the products I love=more money to the companies responsible=better products for the future. Microsoft dicks its customers way too hard to deserve a cent of my or anyone else's money.
Wow, you went way too easy on 17days, yet he still wants to argue, has he ever heard the term, "pick your fights" lol(I mean, you were so nice about it, it was almost like you giving him the benefit of the doubt, just to get him to stop, and he still argued with you. Just goes to show you, a good deed never goes unpunished huh)?
To kool kitty89: Ah I missed that lawsuit(we are talking about 2 diff cases), well that explains why they stopped releasing PS2s, with the ability to install a HD(I always wondered why thay did that).
This disc feasco was much more wide spread, it was a fauty design issue of the Electric Eye, which would end up scratching the discs. However Sony got off easy, and used a loophole to screw everyone with these systems. If I recall, they were fined 2m(slap on the wrist sigh), and they were ordered to allow people to trade in, any of (between a half dozen-a dozen) the faulty models for a replacement, but Sony pulled this BS move stating people had to show a receipt to get a replacement(which was complete BS, this case cleared right before the PS3 came out, so it was a given no one would still have their receipt anyway).
oh, let's see, he said I give reacharounds to sony, blowjobs to apple, and was a cry baby about MS...no, that's not offensive at all  . Replace Sony, Apple, and MS with relevant terms and repeat what he said to your boss and see how fast you get thrown out on your ass. The only one crying here is you because I'm not letting you slide on your completely made up nonsense. And that's not mentioning he's wrong about MS fixing the XBOX, it's still shit.
If 17days were so universally biased against MS, why would he praise the reliability of the Original Xbox by comparison... (though there is one DVD drive that's not so great iirc, but overall better than GC -some GC seem to have read issues or excessive scratch sensitivity at least, PS2 was the only one to have significant problems though -still nowhere near as serious as the 360, but worse than the PSX -and not as short lived either iirc)
Yeah, but is it worth having to track down a new console every couple years to keep playing them? I don't think so. If Microsoft gets it right with the slim and includes Wi-Fi, relaxes the controller lockouts, makes hard drives user replaceable or more affordable, and fixes the reliability issues, the 360 will no longer be a god awful piece of shit that no one should own. In fact, if they did all of the things I listed above...I might even get one

I wouldn't put the original XBOX above the PS2, but it's certainly as reliable as anything I've used from Microsoft. My Thompson XBOX drive was sketchy at best and would lock up games from time to time and my Samsung rev. B drive has issues retracting after ejecting a game (you have to bump it for it to grip). The hardware excluding the DVD drive is pretty solid though, and shit, it might as well be, the thing is bigger than an iMac and weighs more than most HD TVs. Somehow PS2s got a bad rap for being unreliable in the disc drive department, but from what I've seen it's all worn out from hours and hours of use (and some abuse), not a design flaw. Also, IIRC, the class action suit was due to the lack of dual layer compatibility with earlier PS2s that kept them from playing GTA San Andres, Gran Turismo 4, and ?Rock Band?.
Doesn't the 360 still have the three year warranty from RRoDs and the E74 error?
Anyway, I guess it depends on how much someone wants to play Halo 3, Raiden IV, Raiden Fighters Aces, Ace Combat 6, Forza Motorsport 2, Blue Dragon and others. I know I'd love to, but I can't do $200 to $300.
Xbox 360 pad > PS3 pad.
That is all...

Although the best way to reduce PS2 fat is with a balanced diet and frequent excersie, this image wins. Close this thread.
