Can you make a md2 pal work on mcd1 ntscj?

i tried both the language switch and the Hz swith to no avail. it just says error. only for use with ntscJ systems。

I`m guessing i need to multibios it anyway seeing that I will play different region games other than jp ones anyway.

Set the language switch to Japanese, and the video switch to 60Hz NTSC. Congratulations, your Mega Drive will now work with your Japanese Mega-CD. If you get the blue screen saying 'for use only with NTSC-J systems' or words to that effect, you've either not got the switches set correctly or you didn't perform the modification correctly.

Honestly, the multiBIOS is obsolete at this point. MegaCart will literally do everything (better than) multiBIOS does and more. In conjunction with the Mega Drive switchmod, you've got a totally region-free system.

i cant even find a megacart for sale on ebay.

So this means I cant use the MegaCart and I can't burn games to use with a multi~bios. Is that correct?

Nah, it was just a disclaimer 'cause there was a (false) rumour that CDR discs can get stuck in a MkI model.

Turns out I just had a short circuit on my jp/eng switch, so it was stuck in pal mode woops.

so I got the sega cd working... however, it seems to have some loading issues.

I suspect its a bad capacitor on the way out. Which would be the most likely to be the cause?

Also, I noticed the CD audio sounded sooo bad through the genesis audio (distortions etc) and sounds much clearer through the CD audio jacks... do you guys know much about that circuit and how the audio sent through the mixing cable port?

well, it seems it has trouble tracking.

It boots up fine, and it can read audio CD, and plays it fine, however, it sometimes can not read the disk at all from bootup, it fails about 90% of the time when I skip tracks and fails about 95% when I change disk.

I havn't tried a game yet.

pulled it down for a visual inspection, coun`t see anything out of the ordinary (no leaky or bubbled caps)

I did notice a battery on the front left corner is abit old (looks like origional). (now using my multimeter) I measured the voltage at 3.5v when the system was on but when the system was off, i only got 1.45v and that dropped down to about 1v over a period of an 5 minutes or so.

But on my chinese usb oscilascope, i measured 400mv on the batery after 5 minutes, (drops about 0.05v after about 5 seconds after connecting it) shown in my print screen what I was getting when the system was playing a CD.

this was taken at about an hour after I had turned off the system, I took another measurement to see the drop of battery power. I got about 180mv on average.

here you can see that there was abit of interferance from something... every 10 to 20ms it seemed that there was a small dip or spike of about 20mv. but it seemed rather constant.

So as you can see the readings are rather different from that of my multimeter T=T thats a 1v difference to my old multimeter.

I also noticed connecting the laser is a ribbon going to the circuit board (that seemed to be getting jamed in the chassis when the laser tried to read the outer sectors of the cd, so I folded that out of the way.

I tried it out after putting it half back together to see what it was doing, and it seemed to track fine of one song, but going more than 2 forward takes about 30 seconds or more, and going back 1 track is about the same, but going back 2 tracks or more, it seems to read the disk from the start and track forward, but it seems it looses its place after about 20 seconds of tracking then starts again from the start... that can sometimes take about 1 minute or so of tracking. sometimes it just gives up and eventualy ejects the cd.

the laser looks very clean with no scratches and everything seems abit stiff mechanicaly (so that might have something to do with it, im not sure :S) but I did notice 3 small trim pots on a mini pcb connecting to the laser... does the tuning of the laser ever go out over time? if so, how does one re-calibrate it? or would that just be a waste of time?

i measured the voltage of the DC in with the unit on and it was sitting at 14.5v (multimeter) and fluctuated about 0.1v (multimeter) when it was playing a CD. Mind you, I`m getting 125v through my step down converter. I`m using the origional sega ac/dc adaptor also.

i replaced the battery with the one I kept spare for my sega saturn. the sega cd worked fine for 5 minutes, tracking back and forth... then i tried to change cds... it would keep rejecting them. I managed to load a cd from a fresh boot, tracked forward 3 songs then tracked constantly for about 1.5minutes... to my shock it finaly started playing lol.

so it seemed the fresh battery made 1% difference.

any ideas?

Loading problem on SegaCD model 1 *mods please move*

audio on modern CDs sounds like garbage! playing a japanese CD from 1995 plays fine, but playing a japanese CD from last year sounds terrible... even though it sounds perfect on my saturn. Both CDs are in perfect condition...

so what the heck is going on :S

I cleaned the laser lense front and back... seemed very clean otherwise.

and i havn`t had a CD load on it yet.... when i put in a CD...


the tray takes the disk
i can then see the disk spin
I hear the lazer jog to home position
I can hear the laser track and focus (high pitched buzz)
then it pins for about 10~20 seconds doing nothing. just spinning... access light still flashing...
then the cd stops spinning... light still flashing... for another 20 seconds or so...
then it ejects the disk.

perhaps the logic controlers are gone?

anyone want to donate a CD1 laser or cd unit circuit board? :)

I also noticed my CD PSU is getting VERY hot... is that normal?
