I liked "Turtles in Time" more.
I rented this game "back in the day" and I was excited that there was a Turtles game on the Genesis and that the various moves were easier to execute with the Genesis game....but I was still left with the desire to play TiT.
Man what a let-down of a game! I just bought it & played through it with a friend, after wanting the game since it came out. Never played the SNES one, but loved the arcade game when I was young. ("Duh, who put the lights out?")
So Hyperstone Heist has some fatal flaws, and I'm only biased from the arcade game a decade ago.
Where the heck is the throw against the screen? (Most memorable special effect gimmick in the arcade.) There's no excuse for characters walking on the freakin' water in the sewers. (This isn't a game about Jesus lol.) When u beat Shredder, he jumps off the balcony, there's a lame "cut-scene" of the Hyperstone, & then a badly-drawn pic of the Turtles riding a blimp, or something.

I played it once. Never touched Turtles in Time on both the Arcade and SNES though. However, I did enjoy the fight with Super Shredder. Just because I think Super Shredder is awesome.
iirc, I think Hyperstone Heist and Rocket Knight Adventures use the same sound driver, or a similar one. Mainly because I read the documentation elsewhere.
TiT blows this out of the water. But in its own right, this is a pretty great game.
Its a good game but too easy and sadly not as good as the arcade game, I wish they had just converted that.

$16 CIB your going to need to have lots of patience. I got luck as hell with mine a BIN 3 game lot for $20. My Hyperstone Heist is as mint as mint gets very sweet. (the other 2 games were Toe Jam and Earl Japanese version and Bubble and Squeak weird lot to say the least).Quote:

I think this is my favorite console adaptation of the Turtles Beat-em ups. The animation is better, there are closer to the Arcade games' number of enemies on screen. There are at least just as many unique level segments as Turtles in Time SNES, and all of this adds up to a great experience for me. A boss rush level only makes the game better in my opinion. I was thrilled back in the day to play such an Arcade like Turtles Beat-em up at home, and I still am today.
This is for sure my favourite, even one of my favourite beat n ups ever, I do own Turtles in time for snes but this is just faster, better animated and more fun to play, the music is also awesome.Quote:

I've come to like this game a lot more since I first posted on this thread waaaaaay back in 2006. While I think I still like Turtles in Time a bit more as a complete package, this game plays much faster with better controls. It's fun even if I want to plow through it by myself where as I hate playing Turtles in Time without a friend.
I've never played this game or the SNES one. I think I saw the arcade version once back in the day. I generally like beat-em-ups but I never really looked this one up due to the fantasy element, I guess. I mean, talking turtles? Okay. I saw the movie on DVD, though, and thought it was pretty good so I'm kind of interested in giving this a try.
I'm surprised at how expensive this game is given how many people here seem to think it's not very good.
I don't understand why this game couldn't be four players. NBA Live has ten guys running around doing stuff at a faster pace than most beat-em-ups. Why would it be so difficult to do that with four turtles and four enemies?
This isn't a bad game, it's just garbage compared to TiT on SNES.
It's also the second game Konami ever put out on the Genesis, after Sunset Riders.
I don't know if they gave these games to inexperienced teams, or they're just not what should be the first games you put onto a console you have no experience with, or what the deal was. '94 Konami would have put out one hell of a TMNT game though.
Also, I like the coloring better here. TiT looks too bright. Even when compared to the animated series it was based on.
Sports games don't have constantly changing backgrounds. Also you'd need more enemies for 3-4 player than you would for 1-2 player, in order to keep it enough of a challenge for 3-4 players. Otherwise, the 1 player game would be up against enough enemies for a 4 player game, in order to justify a multitap.Quote:

The SNES isn't even as capable over all as the Arcade board that ran the original Turtles Arcade game. I'm pretty sure both that game and Turtles in Time put more than eight enemies on screen at once with a ton more animation than any SNES beat-em up can even look at. Hyperstone Heist gets much closer to the Arcade boards in animation and numbers of enemies on screen, but I doubt even the Genesis could have done well with a four player beat-em up. Also, the music in Hyperstone is good, but the Arcade version of Turtles in Time was essentially playing straight PCM. Oh, and the typical Genesis doesn't have enough color issue is there, it just isn't that bad.
HH didn't seem to have coloring issues now looking at the NES port and it looks bah gawd awful. And that game got rave reviews for reasons unknown to me. The 5th generation era should've been the pinnacle of the beat em up era. But the most we got was 3 player co-op on Three Dirty Dwarves and 3 or 4 op on Captain Commando for the PSx. Everybody wanted KEWL NEW 3D GRAPHX.
2D was shoved to the side too quickly in my opinion in favor of 3D. Someone could've made a console that would've put the EXACT arcade style games into a home console (affordably) had not 3D become the new rage.

The Japanese PS1 is a 2D beast as well. I'm not sure how the actual count would go but the Saturn and PS1 had a freaking ton of Arcade ports with little changes or enhancements here and there.
A lot more could have certainly been done with 2D, if modern indie releases haven't already proven that.
Well, looking at it now, HH does have a December(August for the U.S. according to Wikipedia) release. I don' have a date for SR, except Wikipedia states march 3rd of '93, despite the game itself saying '92...Quote:

Gamefaqs and Digitpress have Hyperstone Heist released by Christmas 1992. Also, Sunset Riders is dated March 1993 in most places, I don't think I ever noticed Sunset Riders on the shelves though. I was still an Arcade nut and I think I would have been keen on it back then. 1993 was when I started getting bored with Genesis games (thankfully not Sega CD though). I remember buying, trading, renting and returning a lot of games that year just hoping for something amusing to play for the price. Yeah, at least Sunset Riders came out later on SNES and with more ROM to offer some excuse. I consider the Genesis game a "version" of Sunset Riders rather than the actual Arcade game.
Exactly well put. Sunset Riders on the Genesis is only 4-Meg and it is more balanced then being a pure quarter muncher like the arcade. I love the Genesis version. My only complaint is I would scratch the bonus stages for an original horse riding action stage.Quote:

The original content is uninspired a sewer, walking on water? With effort this could have been a great exclusive instead it is a solid mash up of previous Turtles games which really brings it down a notch compared to TiT or Turtles 3 on the Nes which is near perfect considering the hardware limitations.
