Carnival Zone

theres just something about Carnival Zone on Sonic 3 that drives me nuts, the level design is really annoying and so is the music, it can't hold a candle to the music and awesomeness of casino night zone from Sonic 2. iam just glad i haven't thrown my nomad into the wall yet, and i have to keep the volumn turned down on my VA1 Genesis 2 or its sound will drive me nuts even worse.

If you feel as though you're going to do that, then switch off the Nomad, take a deep breath, then pack up your console and ship it to me. You'll find your problems will magically disappear. :)

Carnival Night's a tad lame and unnecesssary, but so is half of Sonic 3. ;) I never liked Casino Night much either - granted, that never had a bit with pink water, but it did have a stupid annoying pinball related boss. In conclusion - 'eh.

Carnival Night Zone is tosh.

Seriously? I always felt the boss was the best and most memorable part of Casino Night Zone. The problem with Casino Night Zone is that so many of the pinball sections are completely and utterly pointless. They blew so many opportunities to place alternate routes that could only be accessed by a skillful pinball shot. I was never a big fan of the slot machines either.

Casino Night is still a good zone thanks to its platforming sections, but Carnival Night is the better of the two. Its low points are lower but its high points are higher.

No, I still have some residual hate towards that damn boss. I used to hate it so much. Until I realised that the best way to defeat it, is to keep off the flippers altogether - thus ignoring the pinball theme altogether and making it pointless. Blech.

Sonic CD has a more "proper" pinball boss - that's slightly annoying too though.

heres why i love that level, just put in the super sonic cheat code, hit the slots untel i have like lots of rings over 100, then go find the boss and just go back and forth in the half pipe deal till hes dead, fun and simple.

I guess I don't mind the fact that the flippers are useless because it's still one of the most interesting boss fights in the game. Sonic CD's pinball boss is fun too, but it doesn't really feel much like a boss battle.

Edit: though to be fair, the flippers in the CNZ boss aren't actually pointless -- they're an obstacle.

I agree w/ all of that. Carnival Night Zone is my most hated of ALL Sonic zones! Terrible dopey circus music. Awful ugly graphics that strike me as very bland and lacking in color / repetitive of the same few colors (red, yellow, white, grey, etc.). I don't usually complain about level design but CNZ has bumper hell everywhere.

The barrels didn't really hinder me ever, but it's stupid that there is no prompt or hint at how to get past them. Remember in Super Mario World there were prompts and hints everywhere? They could have had a sign before the barrels, so at least people wouldn't be stuck at the 1st time you have to push up & down on barrels in a Sonic game!!!

The prompt could have been written in glowing neon like in Spring Yard Zone it says COPE.
