Who else likes to torture themselves?

im a football nerd, and recently ive decided to play through a season in every sega nfl football and madden in order, (like i said, a nerd) i dont really know why. i just thought it would be cool to track my stats and keep up with my records, maybe even rewrite history with my favorite teams(redskins/oilers).

well, joe montana football..... no problem, loved it! even better than the first genesis madden(released at the same time)

however...

sports talk football, and nfl sportstalk 93(to a lesser extent) are pure torture.....

i made it to the 5th game in stf until i just said fuck it.

and with nfl sportstalk football 93, ive tried really hard to like this game, ive even defended it here in the past but ive officially decided to give up on it.

terrible gameplay, gave up on it 6 games into the season and moved on to nfl 94 which is massively improved but still broken. the sega nfl series never really took off until nfl 95. awesome game with great 90's sega charm. nfl primetime and nfl 98 are the best in the franchise nice improvements over 95.

Yeah, true...

One day I was playing TF3 on normal and I was mostly scratching my head becasue there were no enemies nor bullets and bosses died too soon.... the Normal is more like super easy mode...

RPGs. I don't think I ever finished one (and I've played tons, both old and somewhat new), no matter how hard I tried. Not because they're difficult, but because I get bored along the way. Even when I really (try to) like a game. Yahh... it's weird. :confused:

Lol. Shmups have the tendency of being addictive, yet hard. :D I love them. Easy to pick-up and go, casual in their own right, yet not casual like Wii sports ;). Love love love love'em. :D

I'm not into "shoot-them-ups" but I have this weird habit of beating my action games on the highest difficulty. I really don't know why I do this: I don't like being frustrated and I have no one to brag to after I finish, but it's just something I find myself doing . . . a lot.

I am TERRIBLE at Ikaruga.... I can't get the game down... I'm trying to hard to chain, and just get to frustrated, playing that game for me is torture because I just want to be good at it lol. I JUST WANT TO FIT IN.

I like to torture myself in different ways. Like, finding a brand new copy of a game in my mailbox, opening and unsealing it, and then letting it lie untouched right next to me, while I visit a Sega-related message board on the internet and talk about it first.

Then make some photos of it. Then go eat and drink something. Then sit in front of my TV doing nothing. Then upload the photos and post them on the aforementioned message board. And then maybe, just maybe, pop in the game and see if it is any fun.

That's why Ikaruga is overrated. I was very annoyed by almost the same reasons when I played it some 2 years ago.
I'd take Radiant Silvergun over it any day. ;)

Same with me, I just bought it on Xbox Live Aracde... I want to really like it, I should... I'm really trying, but for me, I'm playing more Raiden IV, Mushihimesama, and Espgaluda 2.
Kollision I just picked up Soukyugurentai I'll let you know how I like it. I need to post up some replays, everytime I click your shmup collection I am really jealous.

I love RPGs.....I search the internets looking for the next one to buy.....I check out youtube vids, reviews, auctions, the whole works......I want every RPG.....I finally buy it.....I pop it in, and then, I realize that I dont have time to play an RPG......It would take me months and months just to finish one.......

My heart and mind still tell me i'm hardcore.....reality slaps me in the face and lets me know that those days are long gone.....

I play shmups all the time, and i'm not that great at them(getting better though).

Ketsui and DOJ are probably my "pain is pleasure" games.

RPG's, friends.

I really love them. I don't know why. But I think I have fully completed roughly three of them, ever. Early game RPG's I can handle, but as soon as I have to manage a massive party, with all the different bells and whistles, I get so thoroughly confused and pissed off, especially in tactical RPG's. I love the customization, I love micro-management in theory, but in practice, I don't have the patience. I find I stick to simpler RPG's better, which is probably why Dragon Quest is one of my favorite series ever. Love the genre, just not very good at it.

I remember getting insanely good at Ikaruga at one point. As my friend suggested, it is more like a puzzle game than a shooter, you need to know when to shoot, where to be, at all times. I love the insanity of it, and I love the fact that when people watch you, especially if you are good, their jaws drop. Whenever I tell my Wife about a new Treasure game, I mention "that one shooting game I used to play." and her response is always, "Oh, THAT game. That was fucking insane."

I prefer the slower shooters these days, but I could still rock something like Ikaruga or Mars Matrix if given the chance.

On topic, whenever someone says "torture" I think of bad games. I'm the kind of guy who likes to work with objectives, so sometimes I set myself to do things that can be described as torture: Dark Castle, Deep Blue, XDR, Earth Defend, D-Force, Cybercop.

A couple of months ago I tried to beat MSX Parodius but I gave up temporarily. It doesn't suck, it is just painfully brutal so I guess you can see it as being a bit of torture! :?
