Probably the Majesco version, I think the original says Konami or something.
Also, the Majesco version came in the cardboard whereas the first run was in a normal clamshell.
Clarification needed:
Does your cartridge say Made in Mexico or does it say Assembled in Mexico?
Hopefully the latter isn't the case. If so, demand a refund immediately.
Mine says "Konami" "Made in Japan"
The Majesco version (Assembled in Mexico) is from 1998. It will have an non-glossed label. It should have a plastic casing manufactured by Acclaim and held together by two security Torx screws. Majesco's name is printed on the ROM chip along with the manufacturing date.
The Konami version (Made in Japan) is from 1994. It will have a glossed label. It should have a plastic casing manufactured by Konami and held together by two Gamebit screws. Konami's name is printed on the ROM chip, but no manufacturing date should be present.
Mine also says Konami made in Japan I would try and get my hands on a Konami copy instead of a Majesco copy :P
Bleh, they both play the same. I have a Majesco cart in a Konami case (I lost the original cart.) Enjoy an awesome game!
I'm trying to understand why someone would suggest the '94 version over the '98 version...? Is this simply from a Collectors standpoint to have the original release or is there an actual difference in the Game:confused:
One thing that comes to mind is that maybe the '98 release shouldn't fetch the same price as the '94 version simply because it's not an original release and therefore isn't as old (by only 4 years though, ha).
I paid close to $15 for this '98 copy and I'm wondering if out of principle I shouldn't have paid more than say $8.
thoughts, guys?
btw: the game is amaaaaaazing!!! I played it for about 30 mins last night and had a blast. I don't understand why I have to be jumping in order to be able to attack diagonaly though. Also, I'm disappointed that there is only one degree of jump height and that the jump isn't dependent on how long the player holds the button down.... that really sets apart most platformers imo.
Well... to a degree you are right. But... if I should have only paid half of what I paid, then no... I'm not happy.
If the seller sold me something at the wrong price, then I'm not happy.
It's the same thing as a seller selling a game at Mint price when the product isn't in Mint condition.
mine says "MADE IN TRANSYLVANIA" on the back hahahaha yeah i know funny right?
I have the original Konami Japanese cart. Where's my parade?
Yeah, it's pretty much that collectors prefer original releases to rereleases. Just like these days people try to get regular versions of games instead of Greatest Hits versions. There isn't any difference in the game itself.
To me, the only reason to have the original is because it comes with a clamshell case, and the manual is in color (or, the cover is at least.) Since I still had the case, I just paid like $15 or something for a Majesco copy with cart and book only.
As i recall the sticker material they used on the Mexican release looks much more dull.
Ahhh.... I figured as much. Well shitbeans. Should I give the Seller a hard time for selling me a re-release at the '94 price??? :daze:
I think I paid $14 and change for it... no manual, no box.
The label is decently worn with a minor tear on it... and the Pin Connector is loose... a lil too loose for my taste considering I paid 'the normal' price for the game. What say y'all?
thks for all the info, guys... I appreciate it
Or maybe clean the game up a bit.
Well, it's not like he sold you a bootleg or anything. Unless he specifically stated in the auction that it was the original 94 version, then you don't really have any basis for requesting a refund.
No, Oldschool. No.
I was kidding around with my first post because I know how you are and I wanted to rattle your tree a little bit. Do NOT give the seller a hard time, as there is no "correct" price for that game. All there is is the price he proposed, and that's what you paid. You can't honestly expect a refund just because some of the guys around here say they paid less. Stop being so cheap.
I said I was pondering it...
Well pardon the hell out of me.:boxer:
It's not that I'm being cheap, I simply want to make sure I got what I paid for. If everyone pays $10-15 for a Cart only of Castlevania Bloodlines regardless of it being the '94 or '98 release, then I'm fine with what I received.
It's all about the principle with me. ;)
FWIW, I paid about $15 for my Majesco Castlevania with manual and no box. That was all that was available at the time I wanted to purchase it, complete copies were going for closer to $30 at the time.
ahahahahah I couldn't believe my eyes.
Old School grow up man, theirs no set prices for games! what made me laugh is how you think their could possibly be added value to a 94 cart over a 98!! and then EVEN think about demanding back $4 is laughable.
you do realize you're talking about Megadrive games and not a vase.
P.S. I got a 94' Jap for $1 and another for $9 thanks to a member of this forum.
yup exactly the same :D
Hi,
POST REVIVAL
So I got a copy of castlevania bloodlines today...and im not sure if its ..well real. For one it does not say Assembled in Mexico, or Made or anything on the back. It just Says Sega. The front seems non glossy like the majestic versions you mention and a bit blurry... The Castlevania bloodlines small print seems smaller than usual on the front....not sure...Can anyone verify if this is fake or not? Thanks :)

Mine says made in mexico as well
That's definitely the Majesco reprint...I got the same cart when I bought the game for $20 at Toys 'R Us back in 2001. As you can see, the "Made In" portion in the back of the cart is haphazardly covered over with a piece of plastic.
Majesco spread its seed pretty widely when it came to re-prints, so much that their re-prints are more common than the original runs of certain games.
It's completely irrelevant since the two prints play the same, but I'm nuts about most Konami stuff, so I would opt for the Made in Japan Konami release.
Bought mine from a trade-in used game store in my town. It is the Mexico cart in the "Made in Japan" version's clamshell with no manual.
What's kind of Torx Screw does it take??
After looking at one of my copies that were made in Mexico, I believe the torx screw is 2.74mm (size T10).
The Konami version uses a different screw altogether.

To the original OP, the copy that you featured in the photo looks to be an original version. It is just missing the `Made In Mexico` sticker on the back. If you are truly concerned, you can simply open the cartridge and examine the board itself.
