i'm just curious, does anyone else still have their original genesis from the 80's or 90's? i've still got my model 1 that came with sonic the hedgehog, I don't think i'd ever sell that for any amount of money.

Yeah, I still have my model 2 from Christmas of '93. Still works too, although I haven't hooked it up in a while due to having a CDX and all.
Still have mine from Christmas of 1996. Works like a charm!
I don't, but I have a VA6 Genesis that does the trick rather nicely. I'm still looking for a HDG Genesis, so I can keep that one stock, and mod the VA6.
I still have my model 2.
Not the controller though.
I no longer have my model 1.
I didn't like the way the model 1 looked after I got the model 2 (system wise, or graphics wise) and - not realizing the audio benefits of the system, let it go to god knows where.
My older brother got really sick one time and I gave him my Genesis model 1 to play along with all my sonic games. He took it as his own but don't know what he did with it although he did get better. I eventually bought a Model 2 to replace it and that was still in the late 90's though.
He says I brought him in the gaming world which he never cared about back then. I remember him buying a PSOne shortly after it came out. He has stuck with Playstation since though. He now owns a PS2 and PS3 (his BC PS3 broke hence owning a PS2 still) as his systems of choice.
I do still have my original Genesis (a Model 2) but I'm not 100% sure which of my Model 2's is the original one! I think it's the one connected to the Model 2 Sega CD.
I still have my original Japanese Mega Drive.
I leave it plugged to the TV in my bedroom for some late night pre-bed quick fun.
The main system (Genesis) is currently in super battleship formation in my living room with the Sega CD and 32X.
yep - OG model 1 with altered beast pack in...out of all my games, i still have 17 that i kept hold of....and also a boxed 3 button controller too! ;)
Still have my Genesis model 1 from Christmas of '89, and the original controller. I use a 6-button of course, but the original is still around, as is my Altered Beast.
Sadly, I gave away my '95 model 2 Mega Drive to a cousin, along with the four games that I owned. Lord knows what happened with it since then. Last thing I heard was that it broke at some point, and was thrown out during a move. So much for that piece of nostalgia then.
Good thing I could make up for it with my newly acquired models 1 & 2, along with a much better selection of games.
I still have mine...don't know for how long now...also have my original master system!
Still have mine since Christmas of 94... I think... Actually I got the genesis a couple of months before christmas, just so I could get the Sega CD for that christmas... I love my Sega CD... Always Will!!!
I don't have mine anymore, I sold it back in the day to get a little more money for an N64. What a waste. :yuck:
I have owned 7-8 Genesis systems since then, I keep buying and selling my stuff when the next greatest thing comes out, or I'm in a financial pinch.
I promised myself that I won't sell anymore systems about a year ago, and I'm slowly reacquiring everything again.
Now I have an S-Video modded model 1, and a Wondermega 2!
Yes I still have mine but I haven't used it in ages, once I realized it was the dreaded VA7 with inferior sound! Not to mention it lacks the HIGH DEFINITION GRAPHICS!!!
Finally got a nice non-TMSS HI-DEF Model 1 with deep rich sound. It's so much better to be playing the HI-DEF version because finally I can see every bead of sweat on Sonic and the other characters, as I play. lol
Sold mine with everything for $100 the second the PlayStation 1 hit $150. I wish I still had it because it was a huge collection that's worth more then that now. However I did run into a HI-DEF Model 1 Genesis with TMSS on CL.org for $20 with a few crappy games and a 32x.
I still got it. It's a VA-6 model 1 Mega Drive I sent to TmEE to finally get it modded for 50/60Hz and JP/EN switches.
:)
I have mine, but it is boxed up in a closet. I don't use it because it has shitty distorted audio, and I use one that doesn't (and is also region modded).
I got my first MD1 that died and my MD2 that died... both have been used to revive other systems...
Who knows where that thing is now.:daze:
Lost track of it around 94'
still have my origional with my altered beast one thing that still bugs me is the hangtag on my altered beast was tore off
I've still got my original Mega Drive 2, it's the only one I've ever owned. I'm not 100% sure which Christmas it was, but I think it was probably 1993 cos it had Aladdin as the pack-in game (still got that too). Between then and Christmas 1997 it got plenty of use, mostly with Street Fighter 2: SCE, until I got my N64 (my other great love!). In that time I didn't own too many games as I was too young to have any real income, but I rented a few as well.
So every now and then over the next decade I'd get the Mega Drive out and play the games I had. Then at the start of last year I decided to start buying games for it again and I discovered this excellent site. It's great to finally own and play the games that were so prohibitively expensive to me back then. I've even got Virtua Racing now...
Like the OP said, I couldn't imagine selling the console as I've had it for over 15 years and now I'm playing it on a regular basis.
Still have my original model 2, Sonic 2 was the packin. My original Sega CD was still attached to it when I rediscovered the whole thing in the attic, however it hadn't survived it's time in there (it gets quite hot in our attic during the summer).
It's been retired to the closet though on account of having the inferior Samsung KA2195D and having bought a CDX to make up for my lack of a Sega CD.
Yup still have mine, model 1 with AB pack-in. Everything's in great working order. Bought it right at release. Still have the cardboard boxes and manual too. Although I stopped using the 3-button pads when I found out where to get original japanese 6-button pads. I like those a lot better.
Sounds like you waited a while to get one. I take it it was worth it?
My model 2 w/ Sonic 2 pack-in is still going, but I'm not sure how long it will last. It won't read the cart if it isn't put in exactly at the right angle. I'm no expert with the technology, so I'm not sure what the problem might be. Maybe I'll try cleaning it again.
Sadly, I sold my model 2 in '98 alongside all of my first games :(.
Does still having your best friend's original model 1 count? :D That and a couple of games we played from that era.
I've still got my original, but just last week I got a Sega CDX, and unfortunately the Model 1/Sega CD/32x combo is just too large for my TV setups to handle efficiently.
So I'm going to sell it/trade it away. It's a nice Hi-Definition Graphics model 1 with no TmSS too.
it walked out of me while screaming you dirty son of a bitch betraying me for buying a psone
but i redeemd myself and bought a new one back
but i still have my origenal mastersystem 2
Yes I still have my original Megadrive, still complete with box and everything.
and the box is still in the same shape it was when i bought it new in late 91.
or was it 92?... i should probably check the box for a receipt :p
I still have my model 2 from '93 and a couple of years ago I bought a HDG model 1 Genesis with model 2 Sega CD on ebay. They all work, I barely play them, but I will never part with them. http://www.systemwars.com/forums/ima...adtomeetya.gif
sadly not all i have of mine was 3 controllers, finding those was kinda cool
yep still have my model 1, and my model 2 cd that my grandma got me for one of my birthdays as well as my 32x.
Oh, wait! Now I remember: I still have my original model 3, Mint CIB. :D But then again, that's from only 10 years ago.
I still have my original Sega Genesis model 2, and my 32X still works as well
Sadly I made the mistake of leaving my original model 2 (the Asian one) behind.
Gladly I have a much better model now, the pre-TmSS Mega Drive. I still miss the
colorful looks of my model 2 and all the games I lost with it : (
Still have my model 1 from the summer of.....2009.
