MASTER DOES WHAT ZOLTAR DON"T, Okay fine, i don't love it as much as genesis but its still a damn good system
I would rate them thusly:
5. Game Gear
4. Master System
3. Dreamcast
2. Saturn
1. Genesis
I recent years I've played more Genesis/Mega Drive than any other Sega system, but right now I'd have to say that the Master System is my favorite Sega system. It had a huge impact on my life and feels much more "Sega" to me than any other console with it's library of classic Sega games.
I owned a DC with a few games for a short while. Never owned any of the others.
Definitely the Genny for me... simply for the library.
The Genesis, undoubtedly. It has the highest "games for it I like" ratio, and its games have the highest "I still play them regularly" ratio. After that comes the Saturn, DC and Master System in that order (never owned a Game Gear).
And I have to say that to those who feel a system like the Saturn, Genesis or SMS had nothing good on it, I question how familiar you are with their respective libraries. While I can't speak of the GG, the other four systems on that list all had great games that are still enjoyable to play today. This is of course a matter of opinion, but when such comments are made, I find it hard to believe that the ones leaving them have really tried many of the games on the system they're bashing.
Also, 1,000 posts. Is that good or bad?
The irony in this is pretty funny, swap Sega for Nintendo, and Europe for North America an you're closer to the truth ;)
In reality the Master System was an extremely competitive product which made the NES look pretty outdated, just the better graphics and Sega licences alone should've afforded the Master System a decent early market share in the US, decent enough for 3rd parties to start taking a chance and leaving Nintendo (we know hoards of companies hated Nintendo for its policies even this early, if they'd been able to they would've shifted consoles). The NES may be better all said and done, but not in all areas, and not to the stage that it deserved a monopoly of the market
Wow I'm really seeing how much better the NES was, wow, jesus, look at that!

God knows what us Europeans were thinking when we gave the Master System a decent market share  I guess the fact that the NES didn't own 90% of our market just proves without a shadow of a doubt we were Sega biased, or maybe that Nintendo never wanted our market in the first place, yeah, thats got to be the reason why their graphically inferior, more expensive system didn't take over around here.
Since when does graphics have anything to do with what system or games for that matter are better.
Lol, and posting Duck tales, SMB3, and DW3(pretty sure thats the inn in the first town) for NES examples, doesn't really help your cause any, those are amazing games.
very good post indeed newguy
Good thing the other qualities in games like Phantasy Star, Spellcaster, R-Type and them backed up the graphics then.
The DC and Saturn both failed and were discontinued after just a couple of years, the Genesis wasn't. The Genesis was (and always will be) the longest running Sega console (not counting the Game Gear, because that was just a POS anyway). So obviously, it has the biggest game library. A big game library means more good games than a smaller game library.
How can you not see this?
Zoltor is a moron, all of Sega's systems are great, anyone who denies this deserves the banhammer, end of thread.
As for me, I like all of Sega's systems. In fact, I own games for every single one of them, except a dedicated SMS console or a Pico. I've never liked the idea of picking favorites anyway, so I'm not voting in this stupid poll.
EDIT: Actually, scratch that. I just checked the poll results and the Game Gear doesn't have a single vote. So screw all of you, I'm giving the Game Gear some much needed love (one of my favorite games is Legend of Illusion).
