Ouch, I wish I could say he's lucky(since UK games are generally not worth much, compares to US versions or jp exclusives), but it seems most of his stuff was imported.
Now I know first hand that NES games, and even SNES games can take water abuse, and come out basically unscathed, but I would've never imagined the N64 Carts were so different in that respect. The amount of rust/corrosion on those carts is insane, and I feel very sorry for him, that really does suck.
Holy shit, I'm in shock. That's just godamn awful.
:(
N64 carts are exactly the same. He probably went on vacation or somewhere away from his house for several days, it rained heavily while he was gone and then the water sat for the rest of the days while he was gone. That would definitely cause some extreme damage like what you see in the images.
EDIT: Also, more specifically on the N64 games, don't forget he had them stored in their boxes. The rusty stuff you see is probably stained paper from the manual, tray and/or box. Definitely a terrible sight, but don't think this is exclusive to N64 games. Water damage can be that bad with anything.
Poor dude. :(
How can there be a god that lets this happen?
Not cool, but he did it to himself and then has the gall to ask for donations?
As he said, let that be a lesson to you... don't store your gaming collection in the shed.
That's probably one of the worst areas to store games unless you have a very expensive shed that's built more like a small house. Those things get stupidly hot in the Summer, stupidly cold in the Winter, and you're games are subjected to it all. And if there are any leaks, or holes for little critters and bugs to crawl through...
That really sucks that he lost so much of it, though. Hope he's able to build it back up over time.
Unfortunately you're right (a shed really wasn't the best idea, but hindsight is always perfect), but there is something to be said about closed mouths attracting less feet. There's no need to be a dick about the whole thing.
Exactly. He isn't just some regular YouTube guy, he runs/works with Screw Attack Europe.
He may not have posed it as a question, but his Paypal information is in the description of his first video. Do you think he just accidentally put that there? No, he put that there for a reason, so he can get money from people who support his idiocy (ie: even bigger idiots). Also he said he doesn't have a job, so he does not work for Screw Attack.
... and that's why it's pointless to be an out-and-out collector of things. Sooner or later you're going to have to part with the stuff, either through accident or simply because the collection becomes unsustainable. Spending so much time and money on inanimate objects, thinking it will last forever and be worth it somehow, that's just self-torture. Or as Tyler Durden would say, the things you own end up owning you.
Why would you place your entire collection in an OUTDOOR SHED?
Everything of mine is on a couple bookcases (granted, the only stuff I have boxes for is a few NES, SNES, and Gen titles), they don't take up that much room.
And until he can build it back up, there's always the magic of emulation, so he can still play everything.
Amen brother. I'm tired of everyone wanting a handout when something bad happens. Even hinting at taking donations for lost videogames is pathetic....If you want to give money away, donate it to a good cause. You are beyond being a fool if you donate to this dude because he lost his videogames due to stupidity......
Hate to be so harsh, but damn......
If you spend that much time and money on something, I'd hope you've have the brains to do *something* to make sure things don't get ruined like this.
If you got the money to blow on pricey imports and various games, you got cash to spend on plastic containers to properly store your stuff.
ScrewAttack Europe ?
He stored his CARDBOARD BOXED games in an outdoor shed with a leaky roof?
FAIL.
If he was going to use the shed AT ALL, he should have placed his games in Ziploc bags and in Rubbermaid plastic bins.

A trip to Walmart could have spared this guy lots of heartache.
By the way, if anyone has a large/expensive gaming collection, GET INSURANCE! Renters/Homeowners insurance will cover it, but make sure you have a catalog of what exactly you have in the collection beforehand. Granted, they probably won't pay full value for uber rare stuff, but getting 80% of the value back in cash is better than losing everything.
I'm still confused as hell as to why he chose to keep his games outside in a shed instead of, um, inside, so he can, um, play them on a tv.
No room I guess. I think that's the point where a collection just becomes a collection for collecting's sake: you can't use what you have but can't bear to get rid of anything.
If I was him I wouldn't accept monetary donations, and I wouldn't have put a Paypal link up. If lot of people are offering then having the link may make things easier but it looks kinda bad IMHO.
If the guy would have lost his house, then I could understand how people would want to help out, but considering he kept his damn cardboard box games in a shed with a leaking roof... Even without a leaking roof the moisture would have taken care of every single one of his oh so valuable games.
Besides, it looks like they've been stored in his shed during at least the entire winter. The manuals are completely gone. It takes a while for that to happen.
What an idiot.
Spending thousands of dollars on video games, and not even a few bucks on something sturdy and waterproof to store them in?
Screw this guy.
To be fair, properly stored or not, this can still happen to anyone's collection, and I think probably does every bit as often no matter where it's put. He could have bought plastic containers, but they are not fire proof. Houses aren't fire, flood, or hurricane proof, nor are houses immune from robbery. I live in fear someone will wipe me out soon enough...
You really can't stop this from happening for sure, unless you have a huge steel vault you can throw everything into. Something that can survive the nuke that will inevitably one day be dropped on your life's savings.
I only watched the first vid. He's asking for donations?... wow, that's thick.
I feel bad for the guy, but at the same time.... 'putting ones entire collection of ANYthing' in a Shed isn't the smartest move.
As the French would say, "bien fait".
2nded ^
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing... "screwattack who"?
WTF... why?
Yeah, you do that.... because there aren't other causes that could make better use of the money.
:?
GURU LARRY'S GETTING A BAIL OUT!@!@@!@!@@!
I don't think hurricanes are an eventuality he needed to cater for what with living in the UK. Now rain is a different matter. Houses aren't fire or flood proof, but unless you happen to live in a hurricane/tornado zone or on the side of a volcano, it is relatively unlikely that you will lose your collection that way. Solid houses are less likely to suffer critical failures than cheap sheds, and sheds can be attractive for thieves too as a lot of people store things like mountain bikes in them. If someone cares about their collection they should really try to give it as much extra protection as possible if they have to put it into storage.
I feel sorry for the guy but, as has been said, storing anything climate sensitive or valuable in a shed (even without a leak) is madness. Madness compunded by not giving the collection any extra protection whatsoever. I wonder if his insurance will cover it (doubtful), because if it does he really shouldn't accept donations.
The guy does not work with Screw Attack Much any more all the a shows he did for UK TV some was never aired are slowly geting put onto Thatguywith theglasses though.
Sucks about him losing alot of his gaming collection though. I remember once a few years back one of my brothers mates borowed my Copy of Shadow Hearts (Great game and its worth much more than most used Pal Ps2 games now) and it took him two years to give it back to me even though i reminded him loads of times.
I made a backloggery page weeks before me and Family went on Holiday to Florida for three weeks.
Just so I knew what all the gamesI have well 70% of those are mine the rest was either given to me free or other family members games.
You're damn skippy he shouldn't.
Only a total fool would ask/accept money for the loss of such things. Seeing as he's from the UK, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he has no qualms about accepting money from others.
He needs to be a man and own up to the fact that he stepped on his dick bigtime, and now has to either A. Start over from scratch B. Give up C. Emulate.
He does say that he was going to send everyone who donated a DVD, so it isn't entirely e-begging. And I also think he says for people to contact him if they have certain games so he can buy them.
So, he had some bad luck and found a lot of his game collection ruined in an avoidable accident and is hoping for donations? He can go screw himself. I have lots of issues, too. Maybe I want some donations. I need to save money for my kid's education, but I promise I'll buy frivolous things like video games with the money instead! :?
Donate to me because I want to buy video games!!!
I want money. Donate to me. I promise it wont be wasted. I don't store my games in a shed.
Because in my area, at least 20-some have been hit in the last 3 or 4 years, some only a few houses away. People have been busted, but apparently it's still going on. What I can't afford, is to move, have a bill for a security system, or get insurance. It's not like this was a bad area for crime at all before this started. Nowadays it doesn't matter where you live, anything can happen. So, the only thing I can do is hope they never pick this house.
I don't see why everyone is so against his accepting donations? He didn't beg for them, he put his PayPal up after people offered. He also said he would reimburse if anyone found some copies in the wild that he needed. Whatever happened to charity? Do you throw rocks at homeless people or turn your head because they made bad decisions?
The only advice I can offer is to keep your weapon/s loaded and make it readily available. Nothing can be done if someone wants to pick your home when you're not there though... besides having an alarm/etc.
What? Your connection there makes zero sense. Charity for people who don't have a roof over their heads, food to eat, or clothes on their backs is one thing... a guy who doesn't have entertainment is an entirely different ballpark though. :?
Having video games to play is NOT a necessity.
I am probably most pissed off because the guy called himself "ScrewAttack Europe" without even being associated with them.
I demand people now call me "AVGN Europe"! Thanks.
