I VA4 with GOOD SOUND and SSFII would still sound like crap coming out of it or a model 1. Special Championship Edition's music is the bee's knees, but SSFII's music is just poorly composed garbage. But this discussion is really irrelevant because the arcade music blows any console port's efforts away.
http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_Boom_%28hack%29 use Kega Fusion. (that game has a pretty nice sound test)
However, the track labeled Mute City is not Mute City... it's not any track in F-Zero I've heard. Big Blue is the only F-Zero track in there. No remixes on 8-bit collective or youtube either. (real MD compositions or using MD sound fonts -which are accurate but not nearly as flexible as real hardware -limited to the sampled instruments available)
Sonic Boom uses SMPS with the same percussion sample set as Sonic 2 iirc. (it is a Sonic 2 based hack after all)
Tons of MMX music and a few other games too.
has to be streetfighter 2 and super streetfighter 2 man those tunes were total shit and not worth the volume or the sound effects either.
oh another one that hurts my ears is might and magic 2
I'd have to go with Wolverine Adamantium Rage. Secondarily to that I never liked EA's "grunge synth" in stuff like Road Rash 3 or Skitchin. I also dislike Chakan the Forever Man's music quite a bit.
I pretty much dislike any track that does that weird thing where it makes an FM instrument play so long it goes flat or whatever. I'm not sure how to describe it.
While I do like SCE's music a lot, I don't like most of the SSFII stuff (though I do like that synth guitar used often, but it's often too quiet, many supportign instruments are annoying, and the FM percussion in particular is weak -even compared to the noisy percussion samples in SFII SCE). The unreleased/pirate Turbo game actually has some neat music in it, much better than SSFII and the best percussion of any of them.
Sound effects are pretty nasty though, worse in SSFII than SCE (lower sample rate) and seem a little better in Turbo than SCE in clarity.
I like most of SCE's tunes more than SNES WW/Turbo and in some cases more than SSFII Turbo, one of the exceptions is guile's theme which is great in WW compared to SCE and not so good in SNES Super Turbo. (one of the rather decent ones in SSFII on the MD -percussion is the main fault, WAY better than the SNES Super Turbo maybe even better than WW/Turbo in some areas -I like that guitar, way too quiet in Ken's theme though)
Tiido's version of Guile's theme is still the best by far. (not sure how I'd like that guitar substituted as the lead in his version though, it might not feel right)
Again, Turbo on the MD has some good percussion.
Great video. I actually enjoyed some of the tunes to be honest.
I'm gonna record Streets of Rage 2 at 11khz in Genecyst or via some AtGames handheld and include it in a video about the worst Genny music.
