boxed jaguar xj220

does anybody know exactly how rare the box for jaguar xj220 is? specifically, the NTSC version.

i have been looking for sometime now and have increased my search efforts within the past 6 months to a daily basis and have been unsuccessful.

i did find a copy on amazon last week for around 6 dollars shipped, but the seller described the box as being pretty beat up. i am kicking myself for not buying it. it was ONLY 6 dollars for crying out loud!!!

and if a copy does pop up in decent condition and the seller knows what s/he has, what do you think would be fair price for it?

Yeah definitely seems like one of the harder ones to find, mainly because the stupid cardboard box would fall apart.

Have you tried looking at websites other then eBay or Amazon. Try websites dedicated to gaming like The Goat Store or Player's Choice Video Games. Shoot them an email if they have the game and ask what condition the box, if any, is in.

It took me around 3 months to find the game "All-Star '97" for saturn in a box, and I finally found it on a game website other then amazon or ebay.

i also have used game gavel and estarland, but not as religiously as ebay or amazon. i will def put goat and player's choice on the list of sites to watch out for.

I didn't find it at the Goat Store, but I did find it on Players Choice, but they don't post the condition of the games. You will have to email them and ask if it comes with the original box or not.

I too have been looking for this on nearly a daily basis. Last time I saw it complete it was in a lot with a complete Model 1 Sega CD which I also wanted as well as about 10-15 more random complete games. Sadly to say I FORGOT about the auction and it sold for just over $100!!! That was probably about a year or so ago and again, I have not seen the game complete since.

this has to be one of the rarest/hardest to find sega cd CIB if not THE rarest/hardest, right?

at some point a cib in decent condition will show up and i am hoping it will be a BIN for a reasonable price since loose copies are selling for next to nothing.

I hope people have played the game 1st, before searching so hard for it...

I had it for a while w/ no box, and I thought it was just OK... Maybe I didn't give it a fair shot or whatever.

Well if he is looking so hard for it with a box, I would say it is more for the collectors value more then it is for the play value. Otherwise he would have just bought it without the box.

It's the last game I need to complete my Sega CD collection.

I found it at a local flea market for $5.00. Complete in box. The vender had a lot of Sega CD and Genesis games for $5.00. I never thought that much about it. Is it really that rare of a game?

Well it's probably in better condition. Mine was flattened for storage and it doesn't exactly keep it's shape. Not to mention it's missing a flap or two if I remember correctly. I'd have to go have another look at it. The manual is nice and the disc is too.

You know what I hate about these Sega CD boxes? They open from the bottom, not the top. Every other game box in existence opens from the top.

could you post a pic. i would love to see that the box actually exists.

anecdotal evidence suggests that the box is some pretty rare stuff. like i said, i have been looking daily for the past 6 or so months and have only seen 1 box copy, which was listed on amazon. and i stupidly passed it up because it was in 'rough' shape. another member just posted he has been looking for a year and has only seen 1 box copy.

Well good luck in your search. Surely other copies will surface, they always do. Kind of a shame my box was flattened at one point, it doesn't stay up quite right anymore. My Secret of Monkey Island box is in much better shape. :)

Is the manuel the same size as a normal Sega CD manuel? So if I was to buy this game with a manuel I could shove it into a normal Sega CD longbox, and just print of the back cover.

I mean I love originality and all, because I collect these things too, but the boxes that Sega originally released with the Sega CD are total bull. They aren't nearly as durable as the late Genesis/32X cardboard boxes were.

I don't think the manual is quite big enough to fit in a Sega CD plastic case. It could sit in there for sure, but it'll be far from a snug fit unfortunately.

the manuals that came in the original cardboard boxes are the exact same size as the manuals that came in the plastic over sized jewel cases.

i am 99.9% positive on this, but will have to recheck.

no. i am wrong. the manuals from the cardboard boxes are just a hair smaller.

Yeah I did a little research myself, they seem to be about the same width, but are a wee bit shorter.

i know some of you will point me to digitpress, but i don't think that is completely accurate.

So does nobody else have the box for this game? Man, it must be rare, or at the very least, extremely uncommon. It kind of makes me feel special for owning a hard to find game box. :)

Rarity is generally based on how many copies originally sold, not how hard the game is to find today. Of course the game isn't that hard to find, but the box is hard as shit to find.

Though I haven't seen any 16bit era rarity guides. Satakore has a Saturn guide, but thats the closest thing I have seen.

i am pretty sure all other sega cd games of the cardboard box variety are fairly easy to find on ebay/amazon/other game sites, but for some reason the jag is a hard one. and i have no idea why. digitpress - assuming that it is somewhat accurate - i think only gives it 3 or 4 out of 10.

There's two problems with gauging rarity by the original print run. First is you can't always get print run information. In fact, very few games have had their print runs leaked. The second problem is that the number of printed copies doesn't account for the ones that have been destroyed. Like you said, Jaguar XJ220 isn't very hard to find for just the disc, it's the box that is difficult to locate.

Digitpress may not be taking into account how hard it is to find a box. They could just be calculating how hard it is to find the game. And to that respect 3-4 sounds about right, but based on what your are saying the rarity guide for it with a box would probably be 6-7. If you relate it to games like Spiderman 32X which is probably a 7-8 while DarXide would be a 10.

I still see a problem with this, because then it would also have to be based on the entire internet stores + offline stores to accurately determine the rarity.

For example say we are looking for a boxed copy of Doom 32X, yeah I know it is easy as hell to find. You look on eBay everyday for the next 3 months and never find a single boxed copy, so you assume that Doom is a 7/10 on the rarity guide, but this whole time there have been 60 unsold boxed copies of the game on Amazon.

there was a CIB of jaguar that ended a few hours ago on ebay. 92 dollars shipped. i was in it for 50 and had no idea that it would go so high. so did anybody here buy it?

Holy... That's a pretty penny for a box! Can you post a pic of the box from the auction? It's probably better than mine.

the seller just had 1 picture, but it was described as "like new" i think. it wasn't sealed, but it still had the shrink wrap on it. if you have an ebay account just log in and go to 'completed listings' to take a look at it.

the seller was selling a shit of other sega cd games, all described as being in 'like new' condition. he had a few other cardboard box games - prince of persia, road avenger, time gale, wolfchild, etc - and they were all selling for 10-20 dollars. shit, i thought i had jaguar in the bag with 50. NOT EVEN CLOSE!!

hopefully more people will start to sell theirs now. but i can def see people trying to cash in and list shitty beat up copies for 90 dollars BIN. and probably the loose copies will being to rise as well.

Yeah, people will definitely be stupid now with pricing. But, you are right that now others may be more likely to part with them. Though I hope if you have to pay as rediculously high a price as I did, you will at least get it in as (supposedly) good condition too. From that one tiny picture and the description I just figured (next to a perfect sealed copy) this is going to be the best one ever posted; so I pounced all over it.

I've become one of those people who doesn't really care how much they pay over the value of a game so long as they win it. Exactly the type of person I hated when I first started collecting and had no money.

Oh well, you gotta spend it somewhere. I must say though, it was definitely the most difficult game to find complete on the system.

Nice score man, even though damn near $100 is a tad much. However, is it just me or is the box sunfaded? The box is suppose to be the exact same color as the manual.

Nope, that wasn't me. I picked up my copy of Rex about five years ago and haven't gotten another one since. That too is a really tough one to come by (probably #2 or 3) - though its price recently is only at a quarter what it was back when I snagged it. :(

But I'd say probably 80% of the time those black markings over the UPC are on the inserts (which I agree is very annoying). If the game is rare enough or good enough though I'll typically bite the bullet and get it anyhow; then replace it later with a better copy just so I can have it NOW!

I don't believe the box is faded. They typically don't get darker when they fade. :p

I think the yellow light from the room where the pic was taken has slightly distorted the color as it reflects off of the plastic on the box. To me, if you discount the rooms light it appears exactly as your pictures. But we'll see. I'll post better pictures of it once I receive it. The seller is taking their time sending me an invoice for it and the other things I won though.
