Back-up Genesis?
I have a back-up Genesis, a good stock of controllers and even have some doubles of games that I felt I played to much and may burn it out and need a new one. Is this crazy or normal? This is my only console I own so I don't think I spent too much. New controllers(I prefer the Tec Toy 6 button turbo controllers) I only paid $5 each for years ago. One Genesis $36(like new), the other $15. I also have a firecore $26, sound sucks but plays imports and built in games good to take it traveling. I don't have any doubles of expensive games, only from the $5-$15 range and not too many. Sometimes I got an extra because the cart was in such bad shape I thought it might break.

Backup systems and controllers I understand, but why get backup carts? Genesis carts are quite rugged and aren't fragile in the least.
Anyway, I use a Japanese Mega Drive as my main system now, although I sometimes use my TmEE-modded Genesis 2, which has region switches, S-video and the CCAM.

I only got backup systems and controllers. I do have few double games though but I don't consider them back ups, since they find a new home at some quite close person to me ^^
-
I still have my original Model 2 Genesis, but for a long time now I've been using my HDG Model 1 along with the Sega CD and 32X for maximum Lext Level levels. :p ... Oh and controllers, I have extras of those too, yeah...
As for duplicate games, those are always unintended. Usually it's when I upgrade from game only to box and manual included.

I actually have a model 1, 2, and 3. Each has their own advantages and dis-advantages, and they were all a decent price, so why not have all three?
-
Great topic! It would be interested to see how many forum members have more than two SEGA Genesi/Mega Drive systems in their possession.
-
Let's see...I've got a Model 2 main (tweaked, of course)...another Model 2 sitting in a drawer, and a modified Radica mini-genesis that can play Genesis carts, so it kinda counts as a backup for my backup lol.
-
I must have 4 or 5 Genesis... Model 1 at my Mom's house for when I visit and Model 2 at my place (plus spares). I have most of my boxed games up there due to space, but I own 2 copies of Aladdin so that there is one wherever I'm at :)

I pretty much have too many of every retro console :?. Lol :D. It's probably due to finding complete systems (including games, mem-cards and extra controllers) for under 10 dollars. It's hard to pass that up. ;)
As for the Genny, I currently own:
2 Model 1s
4 Model 2s
1 Model 3
as well as:
1 Retrogen Portable
I did choose to vote on having "spare" titles as well, but that's just because I haven't gotten around to selling those yet. I don't really care for having spare titles. Luckily, I've traded/sold/given-away most of them.

i have four model 1s, one model 2, one model 3, and one cdx.
i bit excessive, i know. but whenever i see a genesis at a goodwill for cheap it is hard to pass up. at some point, i will definitely sell off some of the model 1s. knowing i have too many, i recently passed up a model 2 at a garage sale. it definitely was hard to walk away from it. by far, the model 1 is my favorite. and when combined with a model 1 sega cd, that shit is just sexy.
i have controllers out the wazoo. the 6 button is def my favorite.

I don't have "backups" per se, just additional consoles. The CDX is my main guy, but I still have the original model 2 I got in '93 and another model 2 that I kept at a "home away from home". They're all with me right now.
I also have a ton of controllers, but again, not for the purpose of backups. I destroyed many a controller as a kid, which simply leads to me having amassed a fair number in the pursuit of something that works. I only have a handful that work now, and only the official 6-button that I use regularly.

i have 4 model 1s and a model 2 i use the model two all the time and about 4 3 button controllers 1 six button and two copies of sonic 1 and sonic 2, i also have about 5 extra copies of sonic 2 for game gear.
-
i have 3 model 1 (i had 4 some years ago) and 2 model 2.
i'm used to play on the model 1 in mediocre conditions (nice shape on front, awful scratches on the back)
one of the others is in a slighty better shape (i'm thining about sand his chromed parts and leave it unused for collection)
and the last one wich i found in the dumpster is pretty beaten up, i would like to mod it as hell and give some cool painting
i do not use any of the models 2 one of them was my first console, the other a special gift. I want to preserve them as they are
EDIT:
i forgot to mentition i have many 3buttons controllers, some are like new, but i use the most beaten ones (i need an original 6button backup btw, but i can't find any..are them so rare?)
then, i have only 3 backup games, sparkster, sonic 1, sonic&knuckles.

I have four Mega Drives (two Model 1s and two Model 2s).
Two Mega CD Model 1s (Two broken lol).
Two Sonic 2 carts (alongside the Sonic Compilation cart).
Two Sonic 1 carts (alongside the Sonic Compilation cart).
Roughly about six controllers (1 six button).
So yeah...
-
I have a ton of controllers-
one three button with a broken C button
one three button with a weak B button
one bootleg three button with a weak down button and short cord
one three button stick
one six button Capcom stick (technically belongs to a friend, but I don't know if he'll ever want it back, lol)
and one fully functional six button pad.
-
2 Model II, one is main, one is loaned out to a friend.
4 Sega Brand Controllers, all working well
2 copies of Sonic 1 (they came bundled with the consoles)
1 Model 1 VA7 that tends to not turn on sometimes
1 Model 1 VA that is not 7 motherboard

I never intended to have backups, I simply wanted one of every model of console. I don't care as much now, so I've gotten rid of some, but I still have several for various reasons. I'd like to have a backup X'Eye, but they are too expensive to buy another one, and if it were to fail I'd probably start using the Model 1 HDG Genesis and Sega CD.

I do have backups for all my video game systems:
- 1 JPN Model 1 Mega Drive
- 2 JPN Model 2 Mega Drive
- 2 JPN Model 2 Mega Drive CD
- 1 US Model 1 Genesis
- 2 US Model 2 Genesis
- 1 US Model 1 Sega CD
- 1 US Model 2 Sega CD
- 1 US CDX
I'm a happy person now :D
-
...oh yeah, and a CDX as well....but that's currently in pieces as I'm portablizing it...
-
Model 1 Genesis
Model 2 Sega CD
CDx (always plugged in) with 32x attached
2 - 3 button sega brand controllers
And I have arcade controller (official)
and 2 wireless controllers (official)
-
Oops is it possible to re vote? I just voted for "yes I have a backup", but didn't notice the option "yes and with extra controllers".. ahh well.
There really needs to be another option "Yes, I have multiple backup consoles and controllers"

I've got two model 1s. A VA6 which was my original console from 1992 and about 2 years ago I picked up a non-TmSS VA3. I've got my original model 1 tucked away in a drawer where it won't get dust.
I bid $1 on two model 1s last night on ebay and won those. What I will do with them I'm not sure yet.
I also own a model 2 which I don't like at all. I'll probably sell that along with some of my duplicate games on ebay at some point.
