This hack is too awesome for words.
Indeed, this is beyond jawusum :D
The first time I saw it, I found it real interesting, then funny, then genious.
You eat the rings (or "golden doughnuts" ;)), you slowly get fat. You eat too many rings at once, you get fat really fast. You get too fat, you die. Run it off on "a diet" (stop eating rings) and you loose weight. Genious. Just brilliant. It adds a great challenge to beat the game like this.
I wonder if you get fat in the special stages. It'd be impossible to get the emmeralds. But if one can bypass that, I wonder if Super Sonic gets fat; or tails, for that matter. :D
Haha, I love the fat Sonic sprite :D.
But I hoped he would be fat when he fell down from the spaceship and make the plane crash when he landed on it. Or perhaps there would be rings as he stood on it, which made him so fat the plane would soon sink :P.
I wish fat sonic did not die, but would continue getting fatter until he took up a majority of the screen. Then he would die.
I was WTF at first there is nothing different about this game then I seen Sonic gettin fat and I was like what a lard ass Sonic.
Onion Doughnut Rings?
Well, the Sonicretro entry says its Onion rings, so let's stick to that ;)
Onion rings it is, then. Heck, it even carries the word "ring" in it. :D
Sounds like a pretty cool hack. It's like when you eat a lot of food in the Metal Slug games, but instead of helping you, it makes the character worse
I barely made it to level 2.
It's so hard to avoid rings sometimes, like going through a loop.

This is great, but he might get stuck at times.
While it's cool as a novelty and well done for making a fat sonic look well, it seems to hurt the gameplay.
Why do I want onion rings now? :?

...And glazed doughnuts:

...and some French Cruellers. After all, they're my favorite. :D

It was fun reading all 13 pages of the thread. I guess this is my entry into the world of emulators? :p
Then don't play the hack. Just seems kinda weird to say that a derivative work hurts the original work.
Oh god, this is ridiculous! At first I was like, "what the hell?" Now I'm just laughing hysterically, this is great stuff. I don't know how long I'd be able to play it before I rage, but damn.
Props to the guy who threw that together.
Yeah, I remember there was another hack, Sonic 2 Ultima (I think it was that one), which had Hidden Palace, but you got stuck in a certain part, making the act unbeatable. There was another Sonic 2 hack which had some levels INCOMPLETE, so when you entered any of those zones, the game froze (or in PGEN, giving you an endless error message)
thank goodness SEGA didn't make this the plot of Sonic the Hedgehog, I prefer the original as IS.
Awesome, just awesome. I wonder if in the special stages instead of a chaos emerald you get a chili dog :p
Don't kill me over this but I just had to throw a reference to the old Sonic tv shows when I saw this.
Actually, 7 Chili dogs that give Sonic super powers (probably delusions in reality) would be hilarious! Nice idea SegaMan. :D
useless waste of a hack
