Best looking retro console?

Console-ized re-packaging of older computers is something that doesn't fit well into "console generations" anyway. The C64GS came out in 1990. That's 8 years after the original system. It's easier to just consider them variations of the their computer lines.

The 5200/Colecovision "days" is just the earlier part of the same time period to me. After all, C64 came out the same year, and Famicom and MSX and SG-1000 came out the following year. I know 5200 and Colecovision weren't released in Japan, but to whatever extent those systems are talked about in Japan (the same way we talk about Japan-only platforms), I imagine they are considered in the same light as the Famicom.

I don't think the Japanese devote too much of their time to consoles/games/electronics that aren't made by them.

Yeah. Architecturally, they're the same machine. They simply changed the case and controller, and added made carts a little larger.

I don't think Americans devote too much of their time to obscure Japanese games systems either. But we still talk about them in certain places.

I'd say it's either the Mega Drive mk1 or Master System. If portables count (they don't, but what the hell?) I'd vote for the transparent GameBoy Pocket.

#1 Model 2 Genesis, looks good with anything attached to it.
#2 Standard Gray Dreamcast (US) but all standard SEGA controllers each with one VMU and rumble-pack SEGA brand... It's loaded bitch!
#3 Sega Genesis Model 1 with Sega CD and 32X - Science experment.

One of the demo's I needed for my US Saturn set was bought off a Japanese US game collector so they're out there. Not that the Saturn was obscure in Japan but he collected US exclusives.
