Pirate Game For DOS...

When I was a kid in the early to mid 90s in the UK, some of the old PCs in the school I was at had a pirate game on that I used to love playing.

Anyway, whilst doing work experience in 2002 at a school in Peckham, London I noticed they had the same game. I was a little surprised, but got on with the work.

Now that I have the means to play the old DOS games, the first game I wanted to play was that pirate game; but I don't remember it's name!

All I remember is the graphics were primitive, being about only 4 colours on screen, and the point of the game was you using map coordinates to find treasure pieces (or ships, can't really remember!).

I know this is a tall order, but can one of you guys please help me locate it?

Could it be Sid Meier's Pirates?

Nah, the game was like Battleships. You had a map, and by using map coordinates like F-5 you had to find the ships/treasure.

Yeah well, Pirates was the obvious answer. If it had been that game, you probably would've remembered it anyway. I thought I'd mention it just so we could get it out of the way quickly. Now then, let the real guessing game commence...

Cheers, but most of the pages don't work.

This would probably be a better bet. I've looked through the list of DOS games there, but I found nothing really definitive. The only game that looks and sounds somewhat like you described is Pirates of the Barbary Coast.

That game you just suggested was one of the games in the last min I've tried, and unfortunatly it's not it.

I know what game you're talking about, I had it on a disk with something like, 300 demos on it that I had when I was a kid. I'll see if I can find it anywhere and then I'll tell you what it's called.

I seem to remember it being called "Pirates of Panzan" or something like that.

Load up Microsoft paint (or equivalent) and draw a picture of the screen!

Was EA's Seven Cities of Gold ever released for DOS? Your description is reminiscent of that game.

EDIT: It isn't Seven Cities of Gold. But the game does look interesting!

Well, it's a long shot (mainly because the game is more a trade simulation, and it definitely sports more than 4 colors), but could it be "The Patrician"? (A german game that was also released in the UK, around 1992/1993)

The disk's probably in my basement right now, which is currently infested with rats, so I don't think I'll be able to go look for it for a while.

Is that what the game sort of looked like?
