Fallout 3 (which platform did you play it on?)

My logic is that I'll only play PC games on the PC (9/10), but lately I've made some exceptions for some games I'd rather play on the big screen vs. being couped up at my computer desk.

I'm a die hard Morrowind/Oblivion player on the PC... and honestly would like to play FO 3 on the PC as well... but: having a compressed Ulnar Nerve in my right elblow since '05 combined with me starting to enjoy playing FPSs with the Gamepad is making me rethink some of my 'game playing time'.

I can easily spend 4+ HRs in a single session of Morrowind or Oblivion or any of my other RPGs on the computer. That = a lot of burning pain in my right wrist. I know damn well that FO3 is going to be no different, so I'm seriously considering getting the GOTYE for the P3.

All I remember reading is that the 360 & P3 versions don't look as good.. and the P3 version doesn't even look as good as the 360. I remember reading the P3 users were really pissed off b/c the P3 version got screwy/half assed Textures among other graphical mistakes/overlooks.

Even after seeing how much crisper GTA IV/Red Dead Redemption look on the 360, I still decided to get GTA IV for the P3 ($20 sealed.. was too hard to pass up to see what all the fuss was about, so far I'm quite pleased with the gameplay and can live with the slight blurry look of the P3 version)... so if the 'only' difference between the P3 and PC Version of FO3 is "graphics", then I'll be ok.

Has anyone here played both a Console version 'AND' the PC version... and if so, are there any telling differences in gameplay/Framerates/quests/bugs/anything worth noting????? :?:

Only played the PS3 version of Fallout 3, so i can't really compare.

But what i will say is that the PS3 version is a buggy piece of shit, I can't even get out of the Broken Steel addon anymore,
it just freezes as soon as i walk out the door. (and all my other saves are from before i started Broken Steel, so its a major step back which i'm just not gonna do)

So just saying, you might want to read the Gamefaqs forum for the PS3 GOTY version,
because i experienced it as an incredibly buggy POS.

You'd think Bethesda would fucking patch bugs this big, but they are ignoring it.

Don't get me wrong though, I absolutely adore Fallout 3, but the GOTY made it unplayable at times.

God i miss playing that game..

I thought only the PC got screwed on things like this... I thought the Console world was getting all the sweet loving attention b/c it was drawing in the most money from the market.

I had originally bought the original game (PC) and couldn't play it b/c of unstable Framerates. The game wasn't tested on Nvidia drivers 169.21 (which is what I'm still on, they're old drivers from Q4 '07, but have proven VERY stable for 99% of the 300 games I have installed on my XP build which is why I still haven't upgraded them), so I was left with the choice of updating my drivers or not playing the game.

I've been waiting all this time to play this game... but it hasn't been the end of the world as I've had Morrowind and Oblivion to keep me plenty occupied.

The PC version is the best though from the research I've done, it looks the best, plays the best, and is the least glitchy.

Do you have a graphics card that outputs HDMI? I play most of my PC games on my HDTV and they look great.

No. I have an 88GT... and I wouldn't use that machine for that purpose anyway. If I wanted to go the PC-output to Big Widescreen route, I'd build a new machine with one of the latest Nvidia Monster cards.

The 88GT kills it for everything in DX9 maxed out at 1280x1024 w/4xAA & V-Sync, but wouldn't be sufficient for resolutions higher than that... and I'd definitely need higher resolutions if I was going to output to a 40+" Widescreen.


Bethesda is going to hear from me today. I don't understand why all 3 versions wouldn't be identical in terms of bugs. If anything, the Console versions should be superior because they are uniformally configured with the same hardware for each respective system.

Yeah, the PS3 version is notorious for being unstable when the expansion packs are installed. I only played the standard version of the game on the PS3, which is much more stable, though not perfect. It crashed on me a couple of times, but that's like 5 times in 30 hours of gameplay, so it's fairly acceptable. Other than that, the PS3 version is not the best-looking or smoothest-running version of the game, but when it was for sale for only €10 a couple of months ago, I didn't care for that fact too much. Whatever the imperfections, it was definitely 10 euro well spent.

PC for the graphics, PS3 for the trophies. Without background apps getting in the way PC is definitely more stable. There are parts of the PS3 that are guaranteed to crash.

I'll only get Bethesda games on PC, they always have a ton of mods that make the game way more enjoyable.
Graphics were better too, it was worth it.

I played it on PC, but only because it's a notoriously difficult game (high-maintenance is the term I like to use) so I used a trainer (cheaters are people too!) to experience more of the game using less effort/time. The PC version did have its bugs too, but I played it relatively fresh so the patch I applied didn't fix everything.

That was definitely the last Bethesda game I'd ever play. I'm more into 'linear' role-playing games nowadays.

I played it on 360 which, surprisingly, didn't have any major bugs. Dead NPCs will get stuck in walls every now and again and a long, black cord thing will flicker about the screen occasionally. Otherwise, all seems to work pretty well on the 360. The only major "glitch" I had was that I got stuck in a pile of rubble in one of the metros and I hadn't saved for a while so I had to redo a good bit of the metro.

I haven't played it on PC since my computer can barely run Duke Nukem 3D in high-detail mode. What games I have played on PC, though, always "feel" better. The mouse and keyboard are way better than two thumbsticks when it comes to FPS's. I don't know if Fallout 3 plays best on PC, I just know that the 360 version works pretty well, but PC is probably better if not only because you get to use a mouse and keyboard.

I found a thread on gamefaqs where someone explained a way to get the PS3 version to stop freezing all the time,
gonna try it later tonight, I'll let you all know how it goes.


Shame that its such a buggy game, i never experienced such heavy bugs in Oblivion.

Which reminds me, I hope Bethesda makes a new game like that someday,
preferably something in the old west, I would love to walk around there and ride my horse,
snoop in people's houses and talk to everybody and stuff.

I was hoping Red Dead Redemption was more like that, but its more like GTA then Oblivion.

That or a game based in the Pirate era, buying a ship and sailing around,
visiting a lot of islands and diving and sharks and gold and diamonds and ruby's and busty ladies.

There's always Sid Meier's Pirates if you haven't tried that.

Played them all multiple times, and uncharted waters, and that pirates of the carribean game (seadogs2)

It just doesn't compare to the immersion that the Bethesda games give you.

Actually an Oblivion/Fallout type pirate game does sound good... I don't think Bethesda gets enough credit for it, but that "world" engine of theirs is unbelievably immersive. I think "living the life" as a pirate is a natural fit.
