Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side

Any way to get a port of this to the Genesis? What would have to be left out? The cd quality music obviously would have to be out. What else? Maybe some the finishing moves? That's fine with me, I could do with or without those anyway. I refuse to buy a sega cd, but I love Eternal Champions and would like to try out and fight against the extra characters. The Genesis version is 24 megs. With the extra characters but dumbed down music and less finishing type moves surely this could be a 32 meg game?

I wouldn't have thought so, at least not in any way that kept it close to the CD version. There are five extra characters excluding the hidden ones and there were only ten in the original game. On top of that there are nine hidden characters and all the fatalities of course. So maybe if you took out most-all of the fatalities, the hidden characters (and backgrounds), and of course the FMV, you might just be able to squeeze it into 32 meg (kinda skeptical though) but the game would be utterly gutted. Why would you want to play such a neutered version of the game?

Why refuse to get a Sega-CD? It's a nice system with some cool games and isn't even that expensive.

Maybe but I can't see it being on the top of anyone's priorities list to do. AFAIK it wouldn't be quick and easy port.

Dude, just pick up a Sega CD. You wouldn't even have to buy the games, you could just burn them.

Asking someone to porting the game is a pretty unreasonable request when you won't even share your reasoning behind avoiding a Sega CD ("just because" is not a reason). Sonic CD alone was enough to talk me into one.

It would be an interesting project, but better get a Sega CD. You´re lucky, in the US there are a lot of model 1s. Here in Mexico only 3 have showed on internet and I´VE GOT ONE OF THESE!!

Why stop there? Is the Genesis capable of 48 meg games? I know the SNES was, so I'd imagine the Genesis could too.

I'm sorry but this a dumb ass post. The reason for the SCD port was there was a ton of shit that that developers wanted to put in but could'nt due to size contraints.

The game is already like triple the size of the original, which means it would probably become an 80mbit cart after converting.

Which is all very possible, if you're willing to decompile the game and redo it for the Everdrive.
that way you could pcm wav music and even the cinekills, and we could add back the original Shadow.

but unless we get our hands on the source code its just not gonna happen.

(so should any of the original developers be reading this, we'd rrrrrrrrreally appreciate that source code)
(because its not like Sega's ever going to bring back Eternal Champions, and even if they did it wouldn't be in 2D)

I guess I shouldn't start threads drunk. Yeah, it looks like it would have to be a project that would go to the everdrive so the size wouldn't have to be cut so brutally.

I'm only interested in the gameplay, so the additional characters is key, backrounds and themes would be nice putting it closer to 64 meg I'd imagine which would be flash cart territory. Lets all face the fact that the finishing moves are just "dumass" :bull: Mortal Kombat shit so I don't really mind if they were cut.

^ The thing is, that a gutted version of EC:CftDS couldn't be the same game at all. There'd be no way to gut it while keeping the best parts, b/c the whole point of the game was to overload it with everything possible, like zillions of fatalities (all diff kinds of them, and some are awesome. These are NOT just MK bullshit lol).

PLUS good FMV, CD music, many stages, extra & hidden characters, etc. Supposedly the most colors of any game on Genesis / Sega CD. Plus every little thing is more tweaked & polished than the 1st game. This game's awesome. If u like the 1st game u would love this one. :cool:

Fine, I loose. I really understand. No reason to gut a good game just to make it work on the genesis. Also no reason to try to continue to defend my drunk thread after the fact. I still refuse to get sega cd. I'll leave this site now and walk the earth like Kwai Chang Caine.

It seems we are the opposite. I think the gameplay is truly unique, not an SF clone like most other games(not to say that being an SF clone is a bad thing) but it is nice to have a game that is truly differnt. I never gave up on this game and became very good at it(genesis version anyway). The fatality type element was the only part that I didn't really like since it is the only part of the game IMO borrowed from anther franchise. I'll admit, they look cool and at least on the genesis version were different from MK fatalities as in it was not just a button combo but something that had everything to do with what characters location you were at which made it somewhat it's own. Let's just say that I don't hate the fatalities, just didn't think they were needed. Earlier post saying I hated them was more of still a hungover defense against my original drunk posts and reasons that the cd version should still be chopped and ported over to the genesis.

Reason why it sucks
-Loading times (Viva Cartridges Consoles)
-music sucks
-sucky punch sound FX, all hits sound like a weakish punch of the original EC.
