MAME in a Megadrive System?....

Found a Russian Megadrive 2 clone system..To my surprise, the board has a couple of chipsets supposedly related and known to MAME...These are the TA-06SD and the TV16B...

I'm trying to get the thing running in NTSC, since its PAL, but I haven't found any proper jumpers yet....The board has a PAL 26.6017 Xtal, and there are traces for an Oscillator (probably a 21.417727 for NTSC compatibility, who knows?) coming out of the TA-06SD chip....

Anyone else seen these?

That's a rather odd clone by Geniclone standards. How's the compatibility on it, and how good/bad is the video and the audio?

Jeez, where the hell do you get all these Geniclones? I want one!

Is that a clone? for what i have eard those are the really late pal version where they are essencialy asian versions were the box was replaced to market europe i actualy had found one of those on sale complete in box, and also felt strange.

it always surprises me how small the boards are. I don't know why a small M/B in a Megadrive just doesn't feel right.

That TA06 looks like a replica of the VDP. It even uses the same VRAMs and seems to have the same pincount.

I wonder how is it wired for using a MClk/2 crystal, because AFAIK the «genuine» VDP only has a ClockIN pin for the full frequency signal, and no built-in oscillator at the 2nd harmonic.

The other chip (TV16B?) is really wierd, it seems to include both processors, the comm chips and the YM2612, but no RAMs. This chip has no known sega-equivalent.

Doesn't appear to output RGB, that's for sure, let alone Stereo sound.

It's just because you can't comprehend how well something as awesome as blast processing can be compressed. ;)

Sounds about right to me..

But taking a second look almost looks like 6 wires.. Perhaps a second ground, or maybe it does have stereo..

am I seeing 2x small BGA chips there :O

It looks like either 2 BGAs or two TSOP chips. Possibly some RAM? Or is there an ARM core hiding within those chips? I know one of Samsung's ARM cores is a little BGA square.

They seem to be srams....And yes, there are 5 wires for the purposes mentioned above..Also, the TA-06SD has 133 pins and the compatibility is superb...Plays Virtua Racing and the Master System converter without any problem..Audio (mono)but acceptable (nothing weird or crazy like the @Games, Gen-X, etc), video is quite nice and sharp, I'm still trying to figure out a NTSC mod, pins and traces are very thin, can't hardly meassure them bitches :daze: ...

I hate thin traces, but what I despise are traces that are so frail just soldering to them makes 'em break. Grr... that pisses me off so much.

If I had one of these MegaDrive 2 clones, I would have helped you out, but I have no idea where to get them. Mind sharing where you got this MegaDrive 2 clone?
