Playing NBA Jam the other day with former President of the United States Bill Clinton (Mr. Smith 2012), I started to think of old secrets that were super cool way back. There were a lot of rumours back then, like Sexalities in Mortal Kombat and stuff like that, but some of the actual secrets really are something.
Of course, the MK blood code and Reptile spring to mind for me.
It was said that genesis could do mode 7

I remember hearing about how there was some blue book with codes in it, with codes for sonic 2, like level select and stuff, of course in like 1996 or so I would find out those codes due to the internet!
Of course before the internet I remember being in stores and lookin thru the video game magazine lookin at codes lol.

No, it can't, but there are some approximations of it that it can do, but it's limited. And, of course, "mode 7" is not really right to use outside the context of the SNES (many video devices have a mode 7 that's nothing to do with that, it's just the 7th video mode ;)). So "mode-7 like" or scaling/rotation/warping/texture mapping are more applicable. (albeit in a very limited sense)Quote:

The Sega CD OTOH can do more than "mode 7" in that it wasn't limited to one plane and could do a lot more than that -scale many objects and do warping effects and multiple warping layers or aid in texture mapping polygons. (similar to the warped perspective surface)
The SVP chip should have been able to pull off a lot of that as well, but was more general purpose. (hence the use for plotting 3D and rendering polygons)
They probably could have put the Sega CD graphics ASIC on-cart too for that matter.

15s9pu03- The superbike code in Road Rash III. I still remember it to this day from seeing it scroll by on the Sega Channel tips while the game was loading.
That bike is just ridiculous. Hitting a jump and flying over every competitor and landing on top of a cop car a mile away is a glorious thing.
Sonic 3D's level select code: put down the controller, head over to your TV, gently backhand the cartridge with the power on.
Bitchslapped that game into submission :cool:
Some of my favorites:
-Ghouls 'n Ghosts in game code to switch to the Japanese version on a US/EU machine
-Hidden game in Lotus II
-Hidden sound test in Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (requires region lock bypass to play cart in Japanese mode)
-Various "hidden" option modes
I know that genesis doesn´t do that but EGM said it in 1990
Playing as boxing kangaroo in street of rage 3 was great!
Oh, and playing atari version of pitfall in Pitfall The Mayan Adventure for genesis was cool too!
There's plenty of technical threads about Mode 7 and blast processing. The only hardware secret I think applies is hot swapping.
