Alien Soldier:Treasures best work.Best boss fights of all time, there's nothing wrong with this game.
Contra Hard Corps:Best Contra game ever made.Great Boss Fights and stages.
Batman and Robin:Gunstar Heroes is too easy, and it has the best graphics on any 16 bit system.
My favorites in no particular order:
Vectorman (1 or 2, neither one's noticeably better than the other)

Probably a waste of a post since they've all been mentioned already, but... eh.
Hmm I'm having the feeling that some ppl just choose their games based on the 'accepted' norm and afraid to deviate from that. That _is_ purely based on my feeling. It's because I read the same things over and over again.
for example, yes, gunstar heroes IS a good game, but common.. be honest. Is the artwork (read character) all that interesting? It's sure is a technical achievement for the gen but that doesn't make it automaticly a good shooter. It sure has a lot of stuff going on at the same time, so much that it's almost a mess (for me) to see what you're really doing. Just press the shooting button, aim and never let go.
Take mega turrican for example. hell of a lot less shit at once but it requires different tactics to aply on certain elements like the ball mode or the graplin hook.
point is, I don't get it why a good shooter have to have action ALL the time. like nonstop.

Does Space Harrier count as a run and gun? If so, it'd have to be in everyone's top 10s, at least. Probably not top 3 or top 5, though.

I haven't tried the Genesis version of Robocop V. Terminator, but based on the SMS version it should be a pretty good contender for one of the best.

I don't know about all of them but Probotector is not so fun. you die too easily and there is not enough normal ennemies. my bro says the most fun part of probotector is the first few ennemies of the first level.

1. Gunstar Heroes: It's gets so much love because it's a fantastic game. Awesome music, levels and gameplay - what more can you ask for?
2. WolfChild: He's one not many of you even considered, right? Made by Core (makers of Tomb Raider), you play as a man who must use his ability to transform into a wolfman in order to rescue his dad. Epic game. Completly underrated. Play it now.
3. Zombies Ate My Neighbors: A game most of you know already - one of the best run-n-gunners on any system, PERIOD.
