whaaaa?
man, shinobi 3 fuccen RULES dude....easily one of the best games on the system
the controls are totally slick in my opinion and i didnt have a problem beating the game with a few decent goes at it....
dope game!!
The game plays great till the elevator level. You can't.. well I can't beat it. Probably because I suck a little but more because the control never seems to respond properly of what I'm doing. The double jump to wall jump is just impossible to perform unless you time it so precise like a 0,00002 of a second.
That elevator bit can be somewhat annoying if you don't know all the moves that you need to execute. The wall jump is pretty easy, that's just a matter of timing (and the timing is very forgiving), plus you get to practice it in stage 1.
But the other move that you need to use is hanging from those horizontal pipes by pressing 'up' while jumping. The game doesn't make it obvious that you can do that, and until I figured that out, the game had me frustratingly trying to combine wall jumps and double jumps to get up those shafts. And yeah, that doesn't really work.
Dude, you're impersonating Irate Gamer or what? Elevator level has one more or less hard place, but even it is nothing impossible. So either you wasn't even trying, or you are that bad at this game. Either way, it's not the game's fault.Quote:
Yes, I'm hearing that constantly...
Like I said, the game plays great till the elevator level. You can't.. well I can't beat it. Me and my bud tried for like a hour till we gave up and that defeats the whole fun factor for me. I don't get it why they had to implent such level right after some cool level design and great gameplay. Overall, it's a good game if you can pass that level (you deserve a medal for that) but the best game on the genesis? yeah right
Edit: Oh heck. Well, it still wasn't reason to call game "the most overrated crap ever".
Shinobi III is the greatest action game on the Genesis.
You can double tap to run, hold attack to guard, double jump, wall jump, use ninjitsu, Attack mid-air to kick and bounce on enemies.
It's all fast, fluid and awesome. If you hate the 'double jumping' now, you must LOVE revenge of shinobi.
The only problem I have had with ROS or III is the double jump, though part of that is my sucking at video games. They are two of my all time favorites regardless.

Shinobi III is awesome.
It doesn't get hard until some of the later stages like during the falling rocks stage.
I used to die there a lot too, but keep practicing and you'll get it?Shinobi 3 is an amazing game, just keep at it.
I also hated Shinobi III at first, but not because of the controls or the elevator level, it was because of the unatmospheric music (some tracks are really nice though) and the boring factory levels. The difficulty was also a factor, causing a lot of frustration, but once I beat it I somehow liked the game more :).
Why do factory levels always suck? They always seem to be annoying be it in Shinobi or Streets of Rage
ahh.....not knowing all the controls will def make things a little bit harder ;) lol
but yeh....stick with it man!! :) :)
Your intolerance toward your future political dictator's well established brand of sarcasm, has undoubtedly won you friends in the terrorist group which will someday smite him and return balance to the world's political landscape. It also shows your lack of astute observation skills.
Indeed, you're currently on the fast track to an admiralty.

yes!
oh wait..
Awesome!! Why do I think this post is sooo awesome... because you won't see people saying things like this about Doom 25 or Fallout 10.
The 8 and 16 bitters have their own feel for sure... and the stories that surround their difficulty are just as unique and interesting.
That's a giant negative imo. On first thought... the Contra game comes to mind as being vastly superior in terms of control and graphics. I'm sure I could find plenty in my library to best Shinobi III.
What exactly is a negative? Being one of the best action games on the Genesis is a bad thing?
There are very few Genesis games that are "vastly superior" in terms of graphics to Shinobi III. The controls are quite tight, too. Have you played the game? Because it sounds like you're talking out of your ass.
Contra: Hard Corps is a great game, too, but it completely different in terms of style and gameplay (it's much more difficult, and the whole affair is more of a "boss rush" than anything else). The graphics are really good, but I wouldn't say they're better than Shinobi III's. Probably on par, though.
Personally I find it hard to chose between Shinobi III, Contra, Gunstar Heroes, and Castlevania.
I see Shinobi as having the game play diversity, platforming-exploration, graphics, and music all close to high-end. The 'fast gameplay' is there too if you choose to go with it, you're given the choice.
Gunstar is close, it's a rush though, same as Contra. They diversify the linearity, but lack platforming exploration. Castlevania has better music than any of them, but the graphics aren't great. They get the job done but aren't great.
That's where I came to my conclusion that Shinobi III is the best action game. I still prefer to play Castlevania more often.
I was disagreeing with knuckle duster that Shinobi III was the 'best' action game on the Genny.
I would agree with that... although... most games on the Genny have the same Graphic quality as S. III so that's not saying much imo. Games on the Genny tend to look awesome... same on the SNES.
I'd have to look at my list when I get home, but I'm sure there are a couple others worthy of mention besides the 3 everyone is putting on a pedestal.
miquell... is your alias happen to be John?

hating a game due to its difficulty is usualy refered to as johning...Quote:
In episode 2 season 2, Jeremy tells a story but refers to himself as John and Kyle as Keith
just thought I'd let you know
Just stick with it. The controls really are awesome, it just apparently requires a learning curve for you. Shinobi III is an amazing action sidescroller with controls that are smoother and more in-depth than Revenge of Shinobi. I immediately took to the controls and noticed a marked improvement.
Wait, 'Shinobi III' is hard?
This doesn't so much like an argument against that game alone, but instead an epochal dispute -- games have been getting easier, to the point where some now play themselves through 'tough' areas for those disinclined towards, you know, interacting with a video game.
Cross-generational, perhaps cross-platform.
If you think 'Shinobi III' is tough, don't go near an NES 'Ninja Gaiden' -- hell, stay away from the more current NGs as well, as they're quite a anachronistic so far as difficulty.
I think the question may be, whether you like pure action games. On the 80s arcade scale, 'Shinobi III' is decidedly easy...perhaps due to the fact that it was made in 1992/93.
The real argument we see, with better graphics design and bigger budgets, is the need for each generation, if not game in a given series, to become more 'accessible'. Basically a conflation of better looks creating, on some level, less content to justify the cost behind those selfsame looks.
try beating T2 arcade on MAME... now that was a bloody coin gobbler!!!
Midway particularly perfected coin-gobbling with 'NBA Jam'.
The game was cheap, in the sense of its rubberbanding, but difficulty was generally beside the point. They created a coin-op that, much like a racing game, was charging the player by the clock rather than by skill or ability to exploit the game's cheapness.
Shinobi III is the greatest video game ever made, pure brilliance. You either get it or you don't.
Ahahah! And are the airship level and final level in Strider a factory level because the theme is industrial? I actually like the factory levels in Revenge of Shinobi and Shinobi III, they're the typical "grind" levels that force more forethought. Even a decent action platformer needs levels like these.
Now desert levels, those I hate.
I like the desert level in alex kidd in the enchanted castle!
i hated the desert level in sonic & knuckles...
as a kid playing act 2 inside the pyramid, i could never get off that neverending quicksand slide and the ghosts would allways get me >_<
Hmm, maybe I just don't like the color yellow. Or it could be that I don't like 3/4ths of Star Wars Episode 4, or "Super" Star Wars for that matter. I also hate the "comb" scene in Spaceballs, and, and, pretty much any scene where somebody is walking on sand with chapped lips.
I do like the Genesis version of Aladdin though, and I hear the SNES game is unique and at least good. So... maybe if the desert isn't filled with cheap hits, long drawn out walking/thirsting scenes, *and* has decent action and exploration I'm okay.
But factory levels man, they're just a grind to the end in confined spaces with liquid magma to worry about.
Aladdin on Genesis is much better than than the SNES version IMO. I think it's one of the best platform games on the system. I found the SNES version average at best.
I LOVE THIS GAME. It's my fave of any Gen game I've played, carbon-copy or emulated. I always pick it up whenever I'm bored or can't decide what to play. I get better each time I play it and can just do speed runs through it. At first I found the controls awkward, but they grew on me. The double jump I always thought you had to press up AND jump for, but I discovered you have to do it at THE RIGHT TIME after you jump. This made me temporarily hate the game when I got to the Traps falling rocks segment. After mastering it though I cleared it using true ninja skill....the controls are so random you feel like you're actually TRAINING to master them! And even a couple months ago, after playing the game for 3-4 years I JUST discovered that after throwing a shuriken you can BLOCK and be in a position remeniscent of Revenge of Shinobi!
It may be overrated, and usually I hate being identified with the blechhhh mainstream, but man- Shinobi III is my favorite Genesis game, or at least fave platformer on the system. It stands up play-wise and graphically to nearly any platformer like it the SNES could conjure without having all the fance graphics and audio. Oh, the music...
I have some of the tracks on all my playlists and hear them daily. The drumwork on Japonaise is amazing, Idaten what RPG battle music should sound like, and WHIRLWIND....man....Whirlwind's my favorite track of music out of any Genesis game. It's so cool and my jaw still drops at witnessing that a Gen's sound could produce it!
Joe...Joe Musashi's my fave Sega character, just above Knuckles, Metal Sonic, Mighty, & Vectorman.
I so wish Joe (in his Shinobi III iteration), Vec, TJ&E, and Gillius TB had had appearances in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing....I love the Sega racing idea.
Everyone has that guilty pleasure game that everyone in the world hates except them...mine is Sonic R. I love it, and if it had...oh, a whooping 10 or so more levels, I would have played it much more than M Kart 64. Unfortunately I had the PC version cuz Saturns were hard to find so...it was a glitchfest and I wasn't treated to a smooth-running version til Gems got released on GC...
Sorry off topic, but yes I love Shinobi III! It takes a while to get used to but when you master it it's fun and addicting to pick up and blaze through! Joe, Strider Huryu, & Ryu Hayabusa are the trio of gaming's best ninjas! (But not the only ones I'm sure you guys can add to that list lol)
