I don't think the first poll was a troll. Everyone knows what is going to be said about Spinball and 3D Blast; why rehash it again and again? By making folks choose between 4 well-regarded games you get some compelling discussion.
This here is someone who got butthurt because the first one didn't have 3&K as separate games.

I know like many here know Sonic 3 is a trojan horse game. Sure if you label it "Sonic 3 & Knuckles" it's hard to criticize it. It's a really big game. But that wasn't the case back in 1994 when Sonic 3 first came out. There was no Sonic & Knuckles, this was all gamers had.

Had it, played it, and also knew about Sonic and Knuckles coming around the corner. And knew about it being a direct sequel. And you're about 2 years older than I; how'd you miss that information?
And you're mad because CD was unfairly being voted on? Are you kidding? You can't seriously have played that game and consider it the best of the series. The levels are incomprehensible, you have rings, springs, and spikes in inaccessible locations or inside of walls, there's a time travel mechanic that has noting to do with success in the game (because they abandoned that aspect of it), and the special stage is senseless. It's a fun game, but of those four options in the other poll, no question it was the weakest.
So, in summation, here is your viewpoint:
"My favorite game is getting bashed! I'm going to make a new and totally irrelevant poll so that we can rehash crap that everyone has already talked about 100 times."

I don't agree with you that the time travels were pointless in Sonic CD. It was very much on point with the story. You went back in time to stop Robotnik before he ruined the zone as shown in Act 3 when you failed to complete a Past time traveled Act.
If I had to name the best Sonic game, it is without a doubt Sonic 2 in my books.
Yes, the discussion/arguments surrounding Sonic 3 and S&K are well documented and have been done over and over. Congrats on adding nothing new to the conversation.
And your poll includes Segasonic? I can count on one hand the amount of people I know who are AWARE of the game, let alone have played that game.
Sure, it (sort of) made story sense, but they abandoned the development of that aspect and there's really no reward or anything for doing it. You can take whatever track you want all the way to the end of the game and there's really no difference - no perk, no penalty.
If we talk best cart, I'll agree Sonic 2. But if it is best game, 3&K by far.

And I still like Sonic 3 alone more than 2... not sure about 1 but it doesn't feel as fun as 2 for me. I think some of the precision platforming bits feel too much like Mario games (albeit not Mega Man level precise), especially parts of SMW and that's a big negative point for me. And Sonic 3 is a significantly bigger game than Sonic 1 if nothing else, sure S&K makes it completely epic by comparison, and a much better game, but Sonic 3 alone is great. Plus, we probably wouldn't have gotten the dual sound tracks that way either (different knuckles, mini boss, and end credits), and the save feature alone is neat.
However, it might have been nice had they released an integrated Sonic 2+3+K collection with modes to play in all configurations. (or just 3+K modes and keep the lock-on feature for 2 and blue sphere)
I really like Sonic Adventure... I know some people like the adventure field sections more than the linearity of SA2, but Sonic Adventure 2 really has a more polished feel, looks a good bit better, generally has better gameplay, I like most of the music more, and I like the story more. (the voice acting and cutscene engines used are considerably more tolerable as well -SA2 probably has the best voice actors of any Sonic Game -and in a couple cases the acting sounds better in later games but the sound of the voices used seems less fitting) Sonic Adventure does feel bigger in some respects, but SA2 is just more fun, and the multiplayer is definitely a nice feature.
SA2 might be my favorite 3D platformer in general, and by extension my favoirite Sonic game in tne sense that I generally prefer 3D platformers to 2D. (much more fun for me, more fluid, etc -Sonic games are among the exceptions of 2D platformers that I can really get into, especially 3/3&K among a few others like Yoshi's Island, but in general 2D platformers simply aren't as fun and the tougher ones are no fun at all -though I've trudged though a couple)
But of the pure sidescollers, 3&K is definitely my favorite so far. (I need to explore 1 more fully... I haven't gotten more than 1/2 way through without dying and haven't resorted to cheating yet, and I haven't spent enough time with Sonic CD, but at least I don't have a problem with dying -I have yet to master the special stages though)
Adventure, here Sega started to ruin poor Sonic
I rather like Sonic Adventure for the DC. It was like the first DC game I purchased after finally getting a DC for homebrew. It's much more enjoyable than Sonic Heroes, which I first played on the PS2.
Voted Sonic 3, because on its own it really disappointed me when it came out! What a traumatic experience after loving Sonic 1 & 2 so much. Then finally rented Sonic 3 (for a friend's birthday party) and we played through it in one damn sitting! The disappointment was so palpable that night. I could play Sonic 1 or 2 forever, but we had exhausted Sonic 3 in one session. DANG
I'm happy that I can at least vote for Sonic 3 alone in this poll, though SEGA SONIC is extremely obscure, and Sonic Adventure doesn't really make sense on the list either.................
I am going to go with Sonic Adventure. I just can't get into it!
I really just don't like Sonic 1, to me it isn't as fun and Sonic 2 or S&K combined.
But you should of listed Sonic 3D Blast, now that is my least favorite.
From what I understand Sonic Heroes on the PS2 was pretty screwed up compared to the GC game in general playability as well as graphics. I've only played the GC version though, and even then Sonic Adventure is better. ;) (and the GC's Sonic Adventure DX is about as good as the DC game with some trade-offs -a fair bit more detail but some framerate drops at points where the DC is smooth -not sure about the control, but some complain more about input lag on the DC game iirc -the PC version is a little buggy compared to the GC game but avoids the framerate issues on newer machines)Quote:

Hmm, actually I think I might like Shadow the Hedgehog (GC) more than Sonic Heroes... I need to play Heroes again, but Shadow feels more like SA2 (albeit less polished and with a different feel in general). It's also the only 3D Sonic game (or only Sonic game?) to offer 4 player simultaneous vs gameplay. (which is pretty decent IMO) And like Sonic with Tails in Sonic 2, 3, and Sonic's levels in Sonic Adventure (but unlike Adventure 2) you have tag-along characters that Player 2 can control.
