What do you (as a mac user) want from 10.7 "lion" and what do you reaaaally want from apple in a way of new hardware?

I don't want any new F*****G new macbook pros as i only bought the so called "new" i7 model in april. Let me just say if apple releases a new macbook pro already i will throwing my laptop threw steve jobs nearest apple store window :fit:

As a customer to a company that brings out new models and software nearly every year im starting to get a little angry (again) his really bugging me out. All that money and he cant even dress good... F*****G FAG :p

So... Is there ever going to be a Mac OS 11? Is Apple at one point going to use hexadecimal to artificially lengthen the use of X? That would be rather amusing actually. Maybe when that happens they'll start using dogs instead of cats. "Now available, Mac OS X 1.C 'Great Dane'! Also on the subject of new Macbooks, I only ever buy apple hardware on the last version, for example I specifically waited for the uni-body MBPs to come out so I could buy the last highest spec non-uni-body MBP brand new (still £1800!), consequently no teething problems, just the most solid reliable computer I've ever owned.

That just annoys me to no end how much more expensive they are compared to Windows computers, for worse specs than a $1000 Windows computer can buy? Is all that money really going to mere virus protection?

Why do you pay more for the Macbooks? You don't. They have better battery life, bigger multi touch pads, magsafe power jack (I see too many broken PC notebooks because of the power jack and wish more manufactures would use something similar), bluetooth standard and better screens on the Macbook Pro (compared to most other notebook TN panels) for starters.

Compare them to the Lenovo Thinkpad X200 notebook with ~8-9 hrs battery life and they're basically the same price. Heck the Thinkpad X200 is probably more! Cheap notebooks have shitty battery life. Always have. Some of them are just downright pathetic around 3hrs. Even the base Macbook has 10 hr advertised battery life now. That's what you WANT to pay for if you ask me!

Granted it would be nice if they did come out with a budget Macbook. I mean put a smaller touchpad on it, use Intels Ci3 on chip IGP instead of the NVidia 320M GPU and lower the battery life to like 5hr and sell it for $699.99 or something. Then if you need the more powerful graphics processor or better battery life you have the normal Macbook for $300 more. I would think they would sell like hotcakes!

Oh and of course I'm a PC guy first but in many cases I like Macs too. There's certainly things I don't like about some of them but Macbooks are great.

What I'm pretty sure we'll get:

-More emphasis on the casual user, less on the pro apps user.
-More pretty colors and cool designs (because, like, that matters)
-Better iPad, iPhone, iPod and iTunes integration.
-Social networking via iTunes BUILT IN!!!!! Share everything you do on your Mac via Facebook.
-New ways to effortlessly work with .mac or whatever Apple's online thing is called these days.
-Other shit nobody but grandma cares about.

No, that is spot-on. I think the last time I was interested in a Mac was when they announced Intel Macs. And then I went and bought the last rev. iBook. :D

I really like the idea of integrating the software and hardware so you don't get the conflicts and erros like you do with any normal Windows PC, but they should really get on with their OS development as it lacks many tweaks and features pro users need. It's mostly fine for your average user, but to anyone else it's just too limited.

For the MBP. Apple needs:

-USB 3.0 (Requires another IC controller, not going to happen until Sandy Bridge has it built in next year.)
-A competent GPU (GT400 series is a minimum these days. Direct X 11 under windows should be doable on premium hardware.)
-Bluray writer. (Huge optical storage, easy for production environments to move files around, easy to backup large amounts of data.)

What we'll likely see:
A GUI overhaul on OSX. 'Rearranged' buttons like in iTunes. Bullshit about performance boosts in the software (Lies, smoke & mirrors), a CPU boost. The retirement of the 19-month old Core 2 Duo's they sell in the 13" (If they worked out any deals with Nvidia/Intel to let them co-exist in the smaller case.) Or all in all: Nothing worth paying the extra $800 from comparable PC hardware for.

Maybe the 13" will finally get a decent matte screen. Maybe they'll overhaul the aesthetic design. Maybe they'll introduce iAds and keep on trying to pull the wool over the eyes of customers. These are Intel machines, they are not worth the unjustifiably high costs when their failure rate is identical to PC market leaders.

Right now they sell mid-range hardware in their top end Macbook Pros, the mark up is too high even for them. They need to bump everything up, but it's still half a year away from an easier & lazier implementation for them to go with. I say they'll stay behind for another year before catching up in one release, along with a new OSX launch bundled with some iOS functionality.

I Agree a lower price would be better, but I still like my Macbook w/ 7-8 battery life (advertised as 10, might be less for me since I watch lots of vids), large track pad, Unibody design, iLife is also good. as for the Mac Pro my Wife has its very easy to upgrade and very fast though it is pretty pricey.

anyone think apple is gonna release a redesigned MB Air, just wondering w/ all the rumors flying around the internet.

Its the apple tax. Didnt you get the memo from Steve Jobs? If you wanna look cool and hip at your local starbucks, its gonna cost you extra buddy.

Of course, you could be unhip like me and enjoy a much more powerful laptop at home, buy your just as good coffee from the gas station, and spend the remaining cash on games......

But.....then you couldnt sit inside starbucks with your mac looking all cool and hip probably because you dont have any money to do anything else because you're an apple fanboy.

My Macbook Pro cost around £900 UK over what my ASUS Laptop cost which I got the same month, while the spec is virtually identical I'm happy to pay another £900 for an infinately better screen that I can look at from any angle, no cheap shitty plastic (the hinges and corners are cracked on my ASUS) aluminium FTW, the ability to easilly run Mac OS and windows on one machine and better battery performance.

Not every Mac owner is a blind Apple fanboy or a prick who wants to flaunt something with the logo on, I'm a proffesional designer and the MacBook Pro is a tool, and the best most robust tool for the type of work that I do.

Back home I have a number of PCs used for rendering work as in that instance they are the best tool for a job where I need a good £:MHz ratio.

How about perhaps respecting people's descisions?

PC best for you? that's cool, Mac is best for me that's cool also, think Macs are overpriced? no worries, dont buy one :)

Read my previous post about the Macbooks. You can't find a Windows based Notebook with 8-9hrs battery life for cheaper. If you can find one for significantly cheaper, prove it. Otherwise, no Apple Tax. Besides what's the point of having a more powerful laptop at home? If you want a powerful machine for video editing or gaming, and it's going to stay at home buy a desktop! It's cheaper to buy, cheaper to repair, more upgradable and much faster! If you're a student and you want something portable buy something small, light and with good battery life. These so called high power gaming notebooks are just retarded. Big clumsy things with shitty battery life is all they are.

27" iMac. Build an equivalent PC with built in Wireless N and Bluetooth, good BT wireless keyboard and mouse, the price of the OS and oh yeah, THE FUCKING 27" IPS monitor! Dell has a 27" IPS monitor and it costs $1,000 just for the monitor! That leaves you with $699 for everything else inc the Core i3 CPU, 4GB RAM, 5670 video card, 1TB HD, the OS and the BT wireless keyboard and mouse. You might be able to do it, but it ain't going to be any cheaper. Nothing significant in either direction anyway. Oh and if you don't know what an IPS monitor is then you have no right to talk about Apple tax.

12 Core Mac pro. Find a dual 6 core Xeon/Core i7 workstation with a total of 12 physical cores/24 threads for cheaper. You can't. The equivalent Dell workstation with dual Core i7 6 core processors (12 cores total) costs the EXACT SAME PRICE as the top end Mac Pro. No Apple Tax. Granted here you can build the equivalent machine for cheaper. But you can't buy one from a reputable brand who's going to cover the machine for 3 years on site like Dell would.

Il be honest here.. i learnt mac os 9 before i learnt windows, and i love logic and the speed logic runs on a original apple computer (not hakintosh) so thats why i buy mac computers..

The only thing that bothers me with apple is there RAM prices, other than that im always overly happy when i buy a new mac (unless i stupidly buy one before checking the net for updates)

If I'm going to spend over $1000 for a laptop, I'll get a Thinkpad. The durability on those things is just flat out amazing. I don't buy into the crap about Macs being virus proof. No system is virus proof, no system is 100% secure. All OS makers can say truthfully is that their new version is more secure than the previous version. The fact of the matter is Linux, Windows, and Mac OS are all pretty poor when it comes down to how secure they are. As these operating systems get more complex it becomes almost impossible to check every single line of code to make sure there are no bugs to exploit to break the security. So there are thousands if not millions of security holes in all operating systems out there, all manufacturers can do is keep their systems as up to date as possible and fix flaws as they are discovered/exploited. The reason Windows seems to be under attack more than the other two and appears less secure is it's much more popular and widely used so it's the bigger target. If it was the other way around and Macs had the 90%+ market share people would be saying Windows doesn't get viruses and Macs are full of viruses.

I'm not saying Macs are bad really, they are just a different kind of computer that have their uses just as a Windows Machine and a Linux machine have their uses that they excel at. I just don't have any need for Mac personally.

My mum has a sony running windows 7 and it has more than one virus, my MBP does not have a virus to my knowledge and is running at full speed still. After all the "websites" i visit compared to what my mum visits (facebook and email) i would expect mine to be filled to the brim with viruses.. not hers :daze:

but everyone has a opinion i guess. Bottom line is buy what your productivity is better with.

If the virus is only written for windows it won't affect your mac. You've missed the point. Your Mac is not virus proof, it's just not heavily targeted. If Macs had 90% of the market they would be getting just as many viruses as Windows gets now. People don't write many Viruses to affect Macs because they want their viruses to affect as many people as possible. Writing them for Mac would be counter productive to that aim.

Yeah but it doesn't really matter why there are less viruses on Mac OS, to the end user there simply are less.

Now I'm a PC guy and I like Windows 7 just fine, I download a shit ton of movies every week BUT I'm careful. I don't use P2P programs at all, I only download legitimate rips from sites with good reputations and I know what to look for, what type of files to avoid, what not to run etc etc etc. I'm always downloading music, movies and to a lesser extent programs (I'm not trying to brag or anything and I do NOT download games EVER. Buy your games if you like them!) and I've ran into very few issues with viruses. I actually haven't had a single issue with viruses since I installed Windows 7 over a year ago. The last time I did get a virus on XP I was downloading a keygen for Photoshop and full well knew the risk I was taking. But once again the average user just goes around clicking, opening and downloading whatever they can without thinking of the risks.

I guess what I'm saying is I would fell better if my Mom or Aunt was using a Mac because I know they try to download things without truly understanding what they're doing! I can go years without any virus issues and yet I'll install Windows on my Aunts computer and get a call a week later saying you know what. I ask what she was doing and the answer is always "nothing" but I know my cousin has P2P programs on there so God only knows what she's doing on it.

You can use windows in case of need via bootcamp
With crossover games and apps you can run most apps and games in a mac without the need of an additional partition
If you get a macbook, you get simply the best trackpad in the market

Funny you mention booting and shutting down faster. The Macs I've used at my school that have both OSX and Windows XP/7 on them boot up faster when booting to Windows than when they boot to Mac OSX. They also run smoother and faster in Windows than they do in OSX.

As for build quality, you can throw a think pad across the room, stand on it, pour water on it, smack it with your fist, and it will still be perfectly fine. Can you say the same for your Mac?

As for a stable system, I know for a fact first hand that Macs hang and crash just as much as windows. In fact I've had a Mac running OSX crash and hang more on me than I've had a PC running Windows 98, 2000, XP and 7.

As for screen quality, this is more of a laptop thing than a full fledged windows problem. There are plenty of good monitors out there for PCs.

And as for virus proof, please stop with this bullshit. Macs are NOT virus proof. They are just not targeted by people who make viruses, trojans, worms, etc. because the user base is too small. Windows currently has over 90% of the market for operating systems. Macs make up a little over 4% of the remaining 10%. No malicious programmer is going to make a program that will effect 4 out of 100 computers, that's not worth the effort. Your mac is not virus proof, it's just not targeted because it's not worth it.

Do some research on independent testing from pcmag and laptopmag, if you get a worst experience on your mac then for sure your system its faulty, yep indeed. Macs are too, period. I have also used windows xp, vista and seven, 64 flavors and so. By your claims I bet you havent even tried snow leopard, and possibly a lack of cash from you ignited the desire to slam macs, try them and look for known testing, browse laptop mag snow leopard vs windows 7, and do the same on pcmag, for the record, those are excellent sites.

Well this one is true. Snow Leopard boots up and shuts down pretty fast. But a few seconds on bootup isn't going to kill me. If I was really worried about it I would buy an SSD and tweak the OS and you can drastically reduce bootup time. But I don't see the worth. Once your in they're both fast.

Well the HFS+ file system doesn't usually NEED defrag under normal use it can show similar effects and slow down esp with larger files. There actually is a defrag-like tool in Panther and beyond. Saying Mac doesn't need defrag is incorrect. Windows 7 does regular defrags on a weekly basis and they're usually done so fast I hardly notice. NTFS isn't as prone to fragmentation as some might think and it is faster at indexing files. Windows can almost always find many files faster than OSX. I could almost argue a fragmented NTFS drive can still find and load files just as fast as HFS+ can. Also if you really want speed you get an SSD. This is the best real world difference you can ever notice in terms of loading speeds on either a PC or a Mac and they don't require defrag.

The build quality has no equal in computer brands

Lenovo X series Thinkpads? Yeah. Top notch build quality, battery life and you can even get an IPS panel on a Thinkpad and it's the only notebook in the world with that. HP Envy are probably up there too. But sure the Macbooks are up there at the top.

Customer service the same as above

No comment. I don't need customer service and if you build your own PC you probably don't either. But I've heard bad things from Apple customer service and I've heard lots of good from Dell believe it or not. But still I can't really say either way. I'm sure Apple has great customer service. But you get horror stories from anyone really.

Mac OS its a way more advanced and stable system than windows

Windows is faster with 3D graphics and gaming. Every game on Steam has been proven to run much faster in Windows than on OSX. Windows certainly has more features and some things that OSX needs badly as mentioned Bluray support for one. Windows 7 has to run on older hardware and it can do just that. It can run on lower spec systems than Snow Leopard can. I don't know my system is "stable" in that it never crashes, freezes, shuts down etc etc. That's good enough for me.

Screen quality on most macs are better than any other brand

Not IPS vs IPS. In fact I've heard the exact opposite and I've heard a lot of imaging professionals complain about the quality of Macs screens lately.

True. This is silly. But if you build your own PC you get the Windows DVD that you buy. But that's not comparing Apples to Apples. All OEM's should include the OS disk.

IN MACS TRULY APPLIES THE FACT THAT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

You almost always get what you pay for when it comes to computers or all consumer electronics for that matter. This is true if you buy a Mac, a Lenovo X series Thinkpad or build your own custom PC. Anyone who builds their own and actually knows what they're getting and why will say you get what you pay for. That should be common sense. But it's not always for some reason.

You can use windows in case of need via bootcamp
With crossover games and apps you can run most apps and games in a mac without the need of an additional partition
If you get a macbook, you get simply the best trackpad in the market

Everything else is basically spot on. But I hate people who buy Macs only to put Windows on them. I'm not talking about dual booting either. They forget OSX all together and just use Windows on it! Like WTF! Don't get me wrong I like OSX and if I bought a Mac that would certainly be a part of the reasoning. Otherwise why the heck did you buy a Mac?

Downside:
Less native gaming apps an packages available for mac (for now)
The biggest downside now again (and for now) is less native apps available.
(again, with crossover or parallels you can do the job)
