I was reading another thread and wondered if this was possible?
I would love to see a CDX and 32x inside a saturn case.
Are any modders up to the challenge?

If the CDX only supports the 32X internaly, it should be no big deal building such a beast.
Not that I'm volunteering though. Just wanted to say that a Neptune (MD2+32x in MD2
case) with a normal Mega CD looks much cooler than what you have in mind ; )
I hate the concept of possibly destroying a CDX in the progress! Like N. Saibot said, finding a MD2 to do that would be "easier"!! Beside, I don't think there's enough room inside that CDX, if any room at all, to make that happen..
And what's wrong with this?!

I think that's beautiful, and you don't have any problems like people have said.
You can open the CD tray just fine with the 32x on top! I've never had any problems!
I've never been able to get the cdx/32x combo to work:(
Pretty sure there wouldn't be enough room in the CDX without expending it.
Now the CDX and 32x inside a Saturn shell is pretty cool idea! If you could keep the Saturn abilities, maybe with a mod switch? That would be kick ass!
But the OP is asking for a mod, where the CDX and 32X are both inside a Saturn case. You
won't destroy anything (well, except for the Saturn maybe), because the only thing you have
to do, is wire the pins of a 32X to the ones at the CDX cart slot. Then you put the 32X cart
slot to where the Saturn has it's own cart input... Bam! Modification done. Now you just
need something to support the CDX and 32X inside the huge Saturn case, so that they fit in
there better.
Something like this?

definitely doable, but why? the 32X fits into the cart slot on CDX fine. Just plug in the RGB cable and it works great. It makes more sense to just 1) modify the setup to run off one powersource 2) wire the RGB video internally for one video source and 3) mod for switches
building a whole new case around a setup that already works find is just a colossal waste of energy just for looks. modding is the way to go ;)
Agreed, and you complete miss the point of having the CDX, which is compactability! The Saturn is pretty bulky, and one Saturn on the shelf is quite enough for me! But hey, if you do figure it all out, I can make you decals to put on that Saturn to make it look like a Neptune console! What would we call it? NeptuneX?
Good points. It would be nice to see the hardware that is not smashed into a small case as to not damage it and so it can breathe(saturn case). Also, having everything in one unit seems desirable to me instead of multiple connections and wires.
Well it's still multiple connections and wires, actually more connections and wires (Just hidden inside a saturn shell) than a regular CDX32x setup. You have one wire from the CDX, to the 32x, and one video wire from the 32x to the TV. And 2 power cables. That's it! (without any mods) I do like the idea of a 1 power cable mod, that's pretty cool!
I mean, I get it! I really do! I think the whole concept is great! And one hell of a project. But it sure won't be easy, and won't be cheap! I think most would agree here that the time and effort to make this happen isn't worth the end result. As where the MD2 (Genesis 2) Neptunize makes since because it would be less bulky than having the 32x attachment on top. But your taking 2 small systems, and putting them into a quite large shell just seems like a waste of a perfectly beautiful CDX. I searched for years for a good deal on a CDX, I've wanted one since I was a kid. The concept was just a great idea! So I guess it just hurts a little to know someone wants to take one apart to stick it inside a Saturn. I'll take some pics tonight of my CDx32x setup and show the size comparison to my Saturn!
Thank you for the feedback guys. It is much appreciated.
I am going to be honest, I would love to see the size comparison, as I have never seen a saturn in the flesh.
Would neptunsing an x'eye make more sense, or even be feasible?
Thanks for all the feedback to my crazy idea. :)
One friend of mine wants to do the same... I personally like Saturn+CDX+32X more ^^
Doing the Saturn+CDX+32x would be great if you could keep the Saturn abilities still intact! Now that would be making things compact! How about all 4 inside a Dreamcast?! hehe...
You would need to get the Saturn's CD Drive to work with the Sega CD Hardware, which might be pretty difficult to do considering they use very different hardware. Also getting the cartridge port to work properly while still keeping Saturn Cartridge compatibility would be hard too. Maybe if you disconnected both from their boards and made some sort of sliding/rolling mechanism that when in Sega CD/32X mode the 32X port is lined up under the slot and when in Saturn mode the 32X port slides out of the way and the Saturn port slides in it could work. But really it seems like a giant pain in the butt for something that might not even work in the end. And Don't forget you would need at least 2 plugs to power it, as I don't think the Saturn Power supply could power them all or even work with the CDX and 32X. And if the CDX can't power the 32X on it's own then you would need 3 plugs, which puts you in the same situation with the original Genesis, CD, and 32X set up.
If you are going to put it in a different case anyways, why not just design and make your own case for it?
Agreed! Something along these lines but just all Sega would be pretty interesting!
