Ebay, Half.com, and Amazon Sellers RANT

Ever buy a game and the piece of shit seller puts a sticker label on the cart and or on the box that doesn't come off? This has happened to me a couple of times for genesis games on all three of the sites in the title. These fucking assholes. There has to be another way for them to inventory the games, a piece of paper saying what it is with a printed barcode onto the paper with a rubber band around it, not take away the value of the game, and not telling the buyer about it so you buy a game that is actually worth in some cases MUCH LESS then you just paid for it. Before I was nice but now this will call for an instant negative feedback from me. No talking or negotiating.

I hear you. The real good ones are those metallic stickers when removed leave the word "VOID". Impossible to take them off without destroying the label.

if you use a hair dryer you can get those off without leaving void. i've done it to a few games.

I don't understand how they can get away with that crap. I got banned from Amazon because one retard thought they got a bootleg and yet other sellers can sell games again and again with improper descriptions. Please do leave bad feedback. Hell, email Amazon as well. You can do a lot of damage. I had more then one buyer literally make things up and I got into hot water over it.

Obviously

A local Gamestop was doing the thing with the stickers on the inserts for a short time but after quite a few complaints they stopped doing it. It doesn't seem like a company wide thing it's something individual store managers decide on.

In regards to online sellers having stickers on carts, if they list their games as anything above acceptable and there's a sticker over a cartridge label I ask for my money back. If they don't cooperate I go to Amazon, eBay, Paypal or whoever and report them for selling an improperly described item and still get my money back. It still pisses me off to have to go through the trouble though.

It REALLY pisses me off when sellers don't mention the game is an ex-rental especially with the horrible VOID stickers.

I understand the anger over unnecessary stickers, but they all are removable. Even the foil "void" stickers.

The solution is a combination of razor scraper/heat gun/goo gone. With those three items, all of my game carts and discs have been restored to excellent condition.

Now, I did come upon a permanent sticker over the label side of a Dreamcast disc. It was put there by Blockbuster and I ruined the data portion of the disc getting it off. That was ridiculous.

Not really had this problem, the only labels i get are either old blockbuster ones or low adhesive stickers on the actual case..

I don't mind if it's on the plastic, I can get that off. It's when they're over the labels, especially really old rental stickers that have been there for so long they're practically bonded to the label.

I've also come across those permanent CD stickers. If there's a risk of pulling off the data it's not worth it. Those are probably the worst stickers in existence. But if you know that's what you're buying then it's not a big deal. I care more that buyers let you know what the condition of the game is than the stickers being there. If I know I'm getting a game covered in stickers that's fine because I know what I'm buying. If I order a game in "very good" condition and it's covered in price tags, barcodes and void stickers then I'm going to have a problem.

Aerosol cleaning polish is great for getting rid of stickers and residue. If you can get Mr Sheen where you live then I strongly recommend it.

In all seriousness though, Amazon is so not the place to go for oop stuff, used or factory sealed(that goes triple if you care at all about the condition).

Finally! It took me a month to find this stupid thread. I've been trying to vent without having to sprout yet another eBay thread. This appears to be the official rant page. So, let the necroposting begin:

This $*%# seller named coonic_studios is selling nothing but magazine and comic book cutout pages as 8x10 ads that you can hang on your wall.

FYI: Some magazines and comic books have official posters that are indeed designed for this. This seller is not specifying that, nor selling anything of the sort. He/She is simply grabbing his/her magazines and comic books, going to town with scissors and haphazardly cutting each page and posting them for sale as 8x10 ads on eBay.

After much ranting, I did get my money back without having to send back the item. For that, I will choose not to leave negative feedback. But I won't leave any feedback either.

damn, ive only had rental stickers on cart labels - tried my best, but OutRun & Gunstar Heroes both got fucked up that way

my rant? don't fuckin' ship US sega-CD/Saturn games in longboxes, pack the fuck around the box and not bother putting newspaper/something inside to keep the disc from bouncing around. ive lost 2 games this way, it's so dumb!

You gotta be careful with longbox stuff. Write a blurb about packing properly and always put in the seller notes when checking out. That way if it's poorly done you can try and argue for a bit of change back to buy a replacement case. Even replacement cases are getting a bit harder to source though, I know I'm not letting go of the nice ones I've got left.

If it wouldn't be a GARGANTUAN UNDERTAKING, I'd remake all of the longbox game manuals, and re-print them for insertion in DVD cases, to go with the remade inserts on CoverProject. Even on crap paper, my color laser printer looks pretty nice. Still, I'll have to buy a truckload of Chinese toner cartridges before I get started on anything more involved than printing a picture once a month.

On the main topic, buyer beware, and have low expectations. You'll live longer. Realize that the majority of the population has a two-digit IQ, and you'll find yourself being unpleasantly surprised less frequently. People will sell things as "almost new" when it's been sitting under a broken microwave in the garage for three years. Thankfully, the things I buy tend to be ancient computers and parts for them, and miscellaneous loose games. My collection is far away from being "MISB and complete". My copy of TMNT Hyperstone Heist has a red foil star sticker on it, and the label is worn. Whatever, I bought it for the software.

Protip, though, to get sharpie off of plastic, scribble over it with a whiteboard marker. I tried demonstrating this in a video. It... didn't go perfectly.

Or use denatured alcohol on a cotton cloth. Works for me every time of all but the deepest soaked into the plastic indelible ink marks and can be to good when trying get off some labels. If you think that the denatured alcohol may take the printed artwork (spot test) off the label let the cotton cloth dry some first and hit it quick.

Yeah, I get mis-described stuff as well. I just got some Dreamcast games that were described as scratch free but are pretty far from it, one looks like it was slid across gravel or something. The seller is like, "do they still play?" and I'm not sure I have the patience to argue about it, may just drop a negative and be done with it. :|

"A picture is worth a thousand words" If you can't see or make out because out of focus or cut off photos of the important parts of the item on eBay. Don't buy it. It's nice if the seller has a description of an item but unless they have 99.2 or better feedback rating one should maintain a degree of skepticism about its truth.

This guy yelled at me once for something I didn't even do, even after I had made a few purchases from him. Every time I come across his profile he happens to have auctions that look just like this, although it's always different. He just happens to have all of these perfect condition complete games.

And the dude lives an hour from me. He must have a surplus of amazing Goodwills/Salvation Army's around him to keep finding these pristine totally not bootlegged games.

And when the hell is Counting Cafe for Genesis $90?! What a butthole.
