It allows different region Mega-CD games to run on your machine, and you can load Mega Drive and Mega 32X games onto it like a regular flash cartridge. It also works as a memory manager for the Mega-CD console, so you can back up your internal memory to the cartridge, and vice-versa. It's very useful :)

edit: Is this GG business Game Genie or Game Gear support? Will this come as part of a new MegaCart BIOS version?

Game Genie Support.


Game Gear support is probably not likely.

It is Game Genie support atm. The Z80 of the Game Gear is much more advanced than the one in Mega Drive and Master System, so just converting colours isn't enough for Game Gear games on the Mega Drive. Maybe there is a solution in the future.

The Z80 is the CPU not VDP, its not that much more advanced, its exactly the same as the SMS one other than it has a far larger palette of colours to choose from 4096, the sms has 64 colours to choose from. The Gamegear can't actually display any more colours on screen at a time though - 32 simulatenously, 16 for sprites and 16 for background tiles.

Since the Megadrive only has a palette of 512 colours, it won't be able to display Gamegear games properly, you might be able to get many running through the sms video mode, but they will be a totally unplayable mess of graphics.

I didnt just ASK to be on the staff, ive made four or five reviews and wanted to write more.

Could be im not a true english lad or american,im only good at improvising words into a long snake,i tought it ment swearing (but actually not swearing),or that you've got some serious injurie to you fingers wich makes them cross over eachother.

I read on the website that some JP Mega CD games won't work on a US Sega CD.

Dose anyone know if it will play a JP copy of Sonic CD?
