Received the game in the mail today, yay! Won't be able to play it for a week because I'm busy, boo!
The packaging really does look lovely, the plastic on the outside doesn't look as good as the official sega ones but it'll do. Thanks SFT!

Something new on that planet? I'm intrigued. Is this hidden in the same way that one (or was it two) platforms were hidden in Pier Solar? I guess if it was done here first, 20 years ago, people should probably bitch a little less about that maybe. Still not cool, just sayin'!Quote:

Going south from the new ship and entering the tunnel, you should use your Brain Sword to open a hidden passage on your character's right (the left wall on the screen, since your character is moving down). It should be very close to the top entrance. There's a tunnel that will go east from there into the hidden lab. Just make sure you bring a maximum of two players with you, since this new character is going to join you. Then you're off to the final level from there. Good luck.
It has arrived!
Wow, moving out of the first area looks like it will take some time.
mine has arrived too. The product looks good and I'm happy with it. Service still sucks though.
My copy arrived today. Thank you Super Fighter Team
no game for me, however just received shipping confirmation.... looking forward to the game arriving, though the list of games i want to play before this one will mean ill get to play it at around my 63rd birthday!
Thanks guys. I am on the next planet now and doing my best to level up the n00b characters. Got surrounded in battle once. The girl keeps dying but the mutant levels up almost every battle. Haven't tried the kangaroo guy yet.
Games Tribune #30 came out yesterday (28/07/11) and features a 4-page review of Star Odyssey by Joe Redifer and yours truly ;)

Nice article, but I completely disagree about the plastic clamshells from Watermelon being better than those of SFT. That's preposterous.
How are WaterMelon's cases worse than those of Super Fighter Team?
While I didn't say exactly that, well, they are. What I say in that article is I may like the game and I may like the fact that SFT brings it back from the vault of cancelled games, but the cases are of a lower quality than the cases we all had for our old MD games, and lower than the ones WaterMelon uses. My article is not inteded to create controversy, mind you. But the final parts of our reviews always feature that kind of comparison. I loved Beggar Prince, but the cases were fragile, and the glossy paper didn't feel right. That hasn't changed. If you don't like WaterMelon's cases, that's up to you and I respect it, but you can't possibly deny the higher quality of the materials.
Pier Solar didn't even have a clamshell and its packaging was about about 10.559 times better than SFT's releases.
I got my copy yesterday. I'm enjoying it thus far.
A few minor complaints:
- The font (hard to tell 6's from 8's)
- Packaging: I found a piece of plastic in my case, but I can't figure out what it broke off of.
- Packaging: I'm having trouble putting the game back in the case.
Just got my copy today (July29), I ordered on Jun23 if that helps anyone with their estimations.
Haven't had a chance to pop it in yet, but the case looks really slick IMHO, I didn't have any breakage in my copy. While I like the original Genesis cases, these are really neat and they remind me a lot of later case I saw a copy of "The Lost Vikings" in recently.
The black plastic is a bit more glossy than normal, and the thumb guards for opening the touch are cool. But the secondary tab to keep the hangtab down without cutting it off is a really classy touch, so are the extra tabs in the case to keep the manual from shifting around during opening and closing. I'm not sure about the glossy plastic sleeve in front instead of the textured stuff that was normally on Genesis cases, but it's still nice.
The insert looks nice, but is kind of 'meh' in my opinion. I think I'll probably print off the replacement insert djshok made and put that in over the stock one.
Lol, enough of my remarks, I guess I should actually start playing the game ;)
In the article it states that the plastic still being used by SFT is of lower quality than what we were used to in the 90s (I agree), but then it goes on to state within the same sentence that such plastic is also of lower quality than what Watemelon used for Pier Solar (whereupon I disagreed).
While it's true that Pier Solar's plastic clamshells are "near perfect replicas" of those used in the 90s, the actual plastic used in the factory mold was evidently over-recycled, with many a ruptured hydrocarbon long chain, causing it to feel light, brittle and hollow (even if it's not). This is what happens with plastic that is left out in the sun for days, but in this case, that's how it felt out of the factory. The clear plastic film and it's pressing against the hard plastic, however, is actually of excellent material (but it's not that to which I was referring).
I own two games from SFT. Getting a feel of the hard plastic used for them, as I write here again, against that of Pier Solar's second print still alludes to the fact that SFT's hard plastic is of a better polymer batch. It does not feel light, brittle or hollow to the touch. I've heard comments about such plastic having arrived broken, or even having snapped shortly or long after handling, but I've also heard comments of old Genny clamshells as well as Pier Solar's second print having suffered the same fate. In other words, my opinion here is based merely on personal experience and not on overly-biased customer rants online. And, while it's also true that the clear film used to cover the insert in SFT's games is of inferior quality and pressing to Pier Solar's (and 90s games) clamshells, it's also not that to which I was referring.
P.S.> I can see how this can be confusing to some, but I'm not bashing Watermelon with my statements, I'm merely defending SFT. Both companies have given me (and many a Genny enthusiast) that and more than which we've dreamed for years.
I see, canīt argue about the plastic; itīs a bit of a gamble in China to get the promised quality from factories at times. There were issues with the cart-label-glue not used not being the one we paid for too.
Since there were 3 production runs of the reprint I believe there may even be differences between batches. I only have one plastic clamshell case from us, and that one seems flawless, but I donīt know half as much about plastic as you, so I might miss something.
What I can say though is that we never got many complaint about broken clamshells, while people post about them here and in other SFT threads more often. This may however be a coincedence.
Anyway, I still think the best way to go for SFT would be to get a new mold or to talk to Fonzie about using ours; the plastic can still be changed, and I am convinced it will lead to a much nicer looking product.
Youīd be surprised to see one of the original Beggar Prince clamshells though; those were really bad. They were so soft it was hard to call it hardplastic. The newer SFT cases are definitely a step up from that. :)
It's always hard to trust China for any reason. But, like Wal*Mart, once you are used to saving the money it is hard to shop any where else. China has ruined the world.
china ( business wise and financially) is becoming what america dreamed it could be
ordered 24.06
shipped 01.08
now to wait another month(or more) while it's in transit.
thanks, brandon!
I thought of ordering from reseller, but there are none at this time. I wonder why.
What's the word? Ordered on the 27th. Is the second batch done yet? I'm getting ansy. The wait is starting to feel like Pier Solar all over again.
if my game isn't here by the end of the week ill be filing a paypal dispute as this is getting beyond a fucking joke now,
You really donīt have to worry about getting your game with SFT. All disagreements I have with SFT aside, when you bought a game you will get it. If there have been any shipping problems it is most likely not Brandonīs fault. Sometimes it just doesnīt go as planned.
It might not be his fault, and it generally doesn't seem to be.
The weird thing is that for Pier Solar people prepaid 3 years ago and still waited, while for Star Odyssey cannot even wait a month. lol
I know, right?
These damn Star Odyssey kids don't know how good they have it. Why, when I was six months younger, we had to wait over two years for our game to show up. And we had to go to the mailbox to get it... uphill, both ways, in six feet of snow wearing nothing but shorts and a ratty t-shirt in our bare feat at 1 A.M., because it took ten hours just to get to the mailbox. And Goddamn it, we were thankful!
that's because watermelon guys didn't tell us it "will be shipped asap" and then just disappear. can't see anything common between these two situations. besides, if I remember right, there were just as many complaints, but over a longer period.
bingo!!! the 2 situations are totally different
a ps groupy? i discovered the game only this year. had no problems getting it delivered, was at my address within a week of ordering from tototek.
anyhoooooo fuck this, i've got more important things to mildly worry about
Hello, everyone.
Despite suggestions to the contrary I certainly haven't "disappeared." I check my e-mail just about every day, and respond to every message from our customers and fans. I have not, however, had the free time to visit this forum for a while. This is one of the reasons why I always encourage people to contact me directly via e-mail if they have any questions, for the quickest possible response time.
I realize that many of you who are waiting on your orders to arrive are feeling impatient, even frustrated. This is completely understandable, given the situation. With this particular product, we have dropped the ball on our service, which is normally extremely fast. Again, I apologize for that. In the future we will do our best to return to our normal operating speed. The sluggishness at which orders have been shipped is entirely my fault. I have recently added a third job to my plate; getting it going has unfortunately sapped a great deal of my time. Once the initial hurdles are cleared, however, I will be able to once again devote ample time to my heart's desire: Super Fighter Team and its loyal customers and fans.
As it stands right now, I have nearly finished processing and shipping all orders placed on or before June 27th. There will, however, still be a slight delay of a few weeks for those who ordered after June 27th. Star Odyssey is a more complicated game to manufacture than our previous two releases for the Genesis / Mega Drive, thus needing additional time for each unit to be produced and properly tested.
If anyone who is waiting on their order to ship finds this situation unacceptable, and wishes to seek a refund, there is no need to start a PayPal dispute. Simply contact me directly via e-mail with your request, and I will quickly grant it. Customer satisfaction is always one of our top goals, even if it means that we must lose a customer in order to satisfy them.
Please remember I am always reachable via e-mail, and that it is the quickest way to get detailed answers to your inquiries.
Thanks again for your support and patience. Have a nice day.
Ok first impression. It's bad.
Okay, let me explain. The graphics are good and the writing is enjoyable. However, the character moves much too slowly and the battles are lame. I can't even tell what half of the monsters are suppose to be, sure they are alien creatures but at least make the sprites readable, ugh. Maybe I'm spoiled by Dragon Quest/Phantasy Star's graphics. Right now I am stuck after fixing the teleporter on the first planet. This game has no direction, at least in the beginning...
As for SFT's work, I enjoyed the manual and packaging. The translation is well refined too.
You must be lucky you haven't played Dragon Quest 1-3 then if we talk about graphics. You aren't too spoiled yet. lol
hardcore rpg's from the 80-90s were like this most of the time. Crappy graphics, crappy controls, no fucking directions at all. Especially in japanese games. You either like this as a hardcore appeal or don't play it. better play Super Monkey Ball. It does not need directions and the movements are smooth :)
Does anyone know where there's a walkthrough for this game? Surely there's one somewhere in Japanese that I can run through the Google Translator.
I'm surprised that so many people are getting stuck in so many different places in this game. There's only one puzzle that's really obscure, near the very end of the game; that one's a little bit unacceptable since you've never needed to search for a hidden door before that point in the game, so there's no precedent -- if they'd just prepared it with another puzzle earlier in the game, it'd be fine.
But everything else is solvable if you just adopt the "talk to everyone" approach. It's not like you need to be in place X at exactly the right time (hey there, Ultima), or pray 50 times at a shrine (I'm looking at you, Alex Kidd), or search for a crucial item in a totally random location (hola, Dragon Warrior), or any of the other complete bullshit that older RPGs used to pull.
Having said that, I'm in no rush to go through the game again, having lost my savegame -- that is, all my savegames -- after reaching the final boss. :( Maybe my girlfriend'll play it, and I can reuse her party after she's done.
That point is near the end of the game? I'm in the tree section now which is past that (different colored trees and towns in the clearings, etc). Just started that area. How far am I?
Not far, though perhaps I overstated it slightly -- the place I mentioned is about 75% of the way through the game, though I think the last 25% goes relatively quickly (certainly quicker than the first 25%). When you finish where you are now, the next planet will be the last. The last planet also has the best puzzle in the game -- I had fun figuring it out.
