Do the BIOS/POST screens show up?

You should atleast be able to see the boot-bios screen for the card and even be able to enter bios. Is there any beeps while it is posting, like 3 beeps?
What motherboard are you putting this in, eventually they released AGP (2.0) 8x slots that could only do 1.5v instead of 3.3 which isn't enough for the voodoo cards. Is the card AGP even or PCI? lol
Could be the motherboard is only set for AGP or PCI video usage at bootup? Try a different card and check bios options or clear cmos.
Lastly drivers for reference and 3rd party can be found at falconfly.de website.

That isn't by chance a SY-7VBA133U is it? I've spent about 6 or so hours going through old socket 370 and socket 462 motherboards that have ISA and seen that board had support for tualatin Pentium III's out of the Via Apollo Pro 133T chipset!! Badass indeed!
I bought a Gigabyte GA-6VTXE (dunno revision yet) motherboard off ebay with the Apollo Pro 133T chipset and a Pentium III-s 1.4GHz Tualatin for $36, can't wait, but hope it has the newest bios or atleast F8 bios installed so I can drop the chip in and go! I was reading this chip can dust off a P4 1.7-2.0GHz williamette!!
That Banshee is a PCI card. Neither the BIOS or Post show up. But my monitor engages when I connect the VGA plug to the card, so it's clearly outputting something. Windows does recognize that it exists, but I was unable to get any drivers to work to any degree. My motherboard is an Asus P4B533-VM.
Oh yeah, would a Gigabyte GA-586SG work alright as a DOS machine? How about an Intel PBA 689512-201T? They are both Socket 7 boards. The Gigabyte has an AGP slots, fewer PCI/ISA slots and supports some different memory configurations. It's also an AT board. The Intel is the opposite of everything I just said (no AGP, SDRAM only etc)
I used a Voodoo2 for Quake 2.
Still got my Voodoo 2 (8 MB) from -98, great card. Might build a computer around it if I get the inspiration some day.
These days, the only inspiration you need is about $100 available for personal spending. That would get you started (or even finished for some people) on old PC hardware, no problem.
You really didn't answer about what the bios is trying to output to, you may have it selected to only use AGP. Next is it a LCD monitor? Could be a out of range for a LCD. Lastly have you tried re-seating the VGA cable or even re-seating the card? With my Voodoo 2 SLI setup I was having issues with no video but booting fine until I connected/disconnected the cable a few times. Maybe even test it with another known good monitor? These are the last things I can think of before deeming it not serviceable.
I have no good knowledge on Socket 7 boards (didn't want to go back that far myself ;) ), sorry, I used to have a FIC board board and it was great till I sold it.
My Gigabyte GA-6VTXE Rev. 1.0 came today, with bad caps :| Also only had bios F7 installed so I got to work installing the Caps and flashed the bios to F9, set my jumpers up for my Pentium III-S 1.4GHz Tualatin and i'm up and running great now! If you guys can find a Via Apollo Pro 133T snap-em up!
Although my specific board is lacking a onboard sound chip (didn't need it) and a USB Header for front ports (WTF!) its greatly featured and even better than Intel 815e chipset, my Via Apollo Pro 133T supports:
- Tualatin/Celeron support to 1.4GHz
- ATA-100 support
- 1 AGP 2.0 spec (1x-4x)
- 5 PCI
- 1 ISA (no 815 chipset has ISA that I can find)
- 1.5GB PC133 SDram (815e only supports 512MB max!)
Testing Quake 2 3dfx-gl @ 1024x768 went up big time! P3 1GHz only could muster 79fps on timedemo demo1.dm2. My P3-S 1.4GHz hit 158fps! 3DMark99 went from 6244 to 7245
I'll try and take a pic of setup soon, Its looking great but my camera is out on loan :(
Yeah, I got around 3 extra PC cases w. motherboards etc. so it's not really a problem. I could probably use an old AMD K6 233 that is somewhat complete and actually came with this Voodoo 2. It might be nice to try some of those old DOS-games again with authentic hardware. Unfortunately I don't have any spare room for another PC as there are already 2 desktops and 3 laptops in the house.
edit: Damn, I actually have the K6-2 350. Which is nice. :)
I checked the BIOS, it currently favors PCI graphics (keep in mind this mobo has some on-board video hardware. Very basic but it's there). I tested the card on a CRT via VGA. I could try an LCD if it's a problem. I reseated the VGA cable several times, the card I did not.
To be fair, this card wasn't treated very well before I got my hands on it. It wasn't stored on a carpet floor or anything, but it certainly didn't stay in it's anti-static bag or inside it's box. Even the metal bracket was bent, which I had to remedy before I wanted to give it a go.
Would it help if I ran my ATi Radeon through the Banshee with a 32X-style VGA cable? What kind of drivers do I need to use it anyway? Any game or program suitable for testing a Voodoo card?
Unfortunately I don't even have a Socket 7 mobo to start a more older computer. Parts are relatively cheap, I love building these things but it's hard to get the ball rolling... :(Quote:

I wish I had piles of PC hardware "just lying around". First thing I'd do is marry all the parts together and see how many working PCs I could build. Then I'd buy a few more parts to use up what's left. I don't like to see PC components not being used.
With it being not a great life, maybe you should take the card and inspect it for parts missing or dirty pins and such.
The banshee cards where a 2d/3d solution and carried no pass-through. They in general weren't a great card anyways and would recommend atleast a voodoo 2 sli setup on the cheap with a 2d card. You can get drivers for the banshee at http://falconfly.de/banshee.htm , your best just to grab the latest reference drivers from 2000 as they should be official windows 9x drivers.Quote:

Yeah, I got a few piles of about everything, I actually have a couple of socket 7 boards but don't really have documentation on them. Also have a K6-2 550 and 500MHz, but can't bring myself to build it up as I know how slow they are compared to a P2/3 :( My P3 1GHz was atleast able to browse the internet without much issue, it has gotten a touch smoother with the newer 1.4GHz. Internet videos (screwattack) are a bit choppy still. Interestingly enough since I tweaked both my 98SE system and Win7 x64 Pro I find my downloads on the 98SE machine are MUCH faster! I get like 1.2+MB/s versus 700-800kb/s on Win7!Quote:

For a lil while I was thinking about taking my P4 3.2C HT / 7800GT PCI-E and tossing my voodoo2's on it with soundblaster Live! and windows 98se, I think that is overkill though ;)
Heh. :) Well, these are all left over parts from my upgrades during the past 10 years or so. I've also received a few free machines when I've build computers to others. I think I have more 2D/3D cards than actual machines to put them in.
But damn you for mentioning this, now I'm tempted to spend my Christmas vacation rebuilding my gaming rig from 1998. :? Still got a few boxed games from the 90's too...
