What actually is this is it a expansion pack. Also is it that sought after?
It's not really an expansion pack, as it doesn't require the original game to run or anything. But in terms of content I suppose it is similar to an expansion pack. It also shares the A-life save file on your system with regular Nights.
Christmas Nights basically takes the Spring Valley level and gives it a major upgrade. Playing as Elliot changes the layout. If you play in November or January, it becomes winter-themed. In December, it retains the winter and also becomes Christmassy. It has a bunch of extras to unlock, like portraits and crap like that. There's also a Sonic mode.
It's definitely a worthwhile companion to the original game. And yeah, it's pretty sought after. It was never sold, only given away (and rented at Blockbuster). A lot of copies, maybe half, were disc-only. The sleeve is a little rare in the US.
I have it and it's quite a magical experience (don't laugh at me!). Pop in at Christmas and it'll get you in the festive feeling guarenteed.
As for price, last time I checked on Ebay UK, it goes buy it now for 10 GBP.
I love Christmas NiGHTS, and I pop it in every holiday season. I'm really happy to have a complete US Copy (which basically means I have the sleeve for it), they are getting kind of scarce/expensive these days.
My buddy has a Japanese copy of the game, and I would recommend that if you can play imports. If you've played NiGHTS at all it's very easy to navigate the menus, and it comes in a neat little slim jewel case, too. Oh, and it's a lot cheaper too, of course.
Christmas Nights is very easily obtainable in its complete japanese form if you look on ebay or yahoo japan (if you have access to that). I bought my japanese copy for about 3-4 dollars on eBay in excellent condition. And most of it is in english except for the ending video. But its excellent, and I should play it this season.
I twas just a Demo disc that came with NextGen magazine as I recall. When the user sets the Saturn clock to Christmas it turns into Christmas Nights. Its neat but just novelty.
It's more than "just" a demo, though, as it includes a lot of content that isn't present in full game, like being able to actually see how many/what kind of A-Lifes you have (In both Christmas NiGHTS and NiGHTS into Dreams), Time Attack, Score Attack, the ability to play as Sonic the Hedgehog, etc. Really, I think it's pretty much essential for any fan of the game, especially given how cheaply it can be obtained.
I've spent nearly as much time playing Christmas NiGHTS as I have the full game, I reckon.
