Some guy arranged the entire soundtracks for the NES, authentically.He used the VRC6, to get some more channels, I think he should have used the VRC7;)It is definitely worth a listen.
It sounds like there's pretty significant use of the DPCM channel in there. :D (some of it seems rather low sample rate for what the DPCM channel could do, but maybe they were aiming at relatively realistic memory usage)
A lot of the FM in the sonic games caters well to pulse+saw+triangle+square wave stuff and of course you have the PSG channels easily matched for square stuff and noise.
Too bad that video cuts most of the songs short...
And using the VRC6 is cheating a bit, but using the VRC7 or N106 would REALLY be pushing it. ;) (and sort of defeat the purpose of doing an NES mix -like how doing a remix with dual SID or dual POKEY could be relatively fair)
