Omg, the people running the VGA don't know what genre games are

Before the industry can have legitimate awards it needs to agree on standards. Right now the standard is how many fricking units sold multiplied by how many digits follow the title plus subtitle.

The movie industry at least maintains the illusion that there is a standard for a "good film". People even claim to be experts in it and pull it off.

Fiction and novels have standards that have been established for hundreds of years by the original fiction and novels. Only the language and setting has changed very dramatically.

Gaming is not a young industry to have established standards for each of its gameplay styles. The game industry just enjoys a vacuum of constantly rewritten and false history to sell its latest iteration of the same thing.

Why does anyone even watch televised awards shows? They're all rigged anyways.

Ah, but the difference is that during the Oscars, there's actually an Academy rule that movie ads/trailers are not allowed to air during the award show. The Spike Video Game Awards? Trailers for upcoming games are a featured part of the show. Like sheath said, the industry needs to at least feign credibility, right now it's not even trying.

I mean, would it be such a terrible thing to have a gala black tie event with the likes of Shigeru Miyamoto, Hideo Kojima, Warren Spector, Sid Meyer and Ralph Baer present? With awards for 'best production design', 'best original score', 'best producer', 'best director', etc?

The biggest hurdle is that this POS is airing on Spike, a channel that's made it's name shooting for the lowest common denominator.

And "gift packages" filled with thousands of dollars of stuff are given away to guests/nominees/whoever at the Oscars. Never mind the talk about whatever outfits/dresses the women wear and who/where they got it from.

Just because an award show doesn't show ads/trailers during the "big event" doesn't make it any less commercialized.

Yeah, but unfortunately, that's not how it's organized online or even in some "official lists."

There's often no railshooter category at all, and "on rails shooter" almost always had some crossover into the light gun shooters. (not shooting gallery games, but the on rails light gun games)
