2010,a look back

It's the end of he year and it's time look back at the games we played during 2010.It doesn't have to be a new game either, just a game you played this year(that you never played before).I played a lot of good games this year, looking back I think I had the most fun playing new games on the Wii.The biggest thing from 2010 for me is Mass Effect 2, I loved the first one, and I followed the sequel quite a bit, and the more they revealed the worst I felt(the same feeling I got with SFIV), but I cast my fears aside until I played it.It's not a bad game it's just they took out so much, I like the better shooting mechanics, but they removed almost all the RPG elements.Another problem I have with 2 is the fact it was ported so poorly to the PC.The menu controls have zero mouse functions, and the textures(even on party members) don't get nearly as detailed as they should.The first game had a much better PC port, and that Depth of Field effect is awful, thank god I played it on the PC.To get the ball rolling here are list of game I liked in 2010.

NBA JAM (also played on wii, I don't like the motion controls or the wiiremote sideways (cause you have to use the trigger button) I don't like the analog stick controls on the Ps3 for shooting, but you can use the buttons too.

I wish the "Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy" Hack would work on the Everdrive, but it's too big! Someone needs to work on that!

The games I've enjoyed the most this year are Halo:Reach, Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing and Bioshock 2. Other notable new games for me are Sonic 4, Espgaluda 2 and Halo 1, 2 and 3. Didn't play any Halo games until this year.

Damn you... getting my hopes up n stuff... ;)
Still looks like a cool hack; I'll try it out tonight.

I go out of my way to only play very good or better games, but even then sometimes a subpar game at best slips by.


Here's what I have played:

SMT: Strange Journy(Great #1, It's a flawless highbrid between a Dungeon Crawler/RPG, and a Monster Capture/training game)

Shiren for the wii(a very good-low end great Rogue like, It's a pretty big game, has an awesome story, and the gameplay is addictive)

Soul Calibur 4(Just wow, this game kicks ass, It's easily the best SC game made to date, and with the new dirrection they took the game in, it sets it apart from the SF/MvC series, thus giving it a true chance to shine).

Golden Sun, the two part game for the GBA(This game was awesome, and I can't believe I passed this game up back in the day).

Fate: The Traitor Soul(It's a new expansion to an awesome Diablo clone, most likely the best Diablo clone at that. Despite the Fate game being so awesome, the company sadly sucks big time, and their expertise for creating physical copies of their game is lacking. If you run into a problem, don't expect the staff/developers to help, you need to rely on either the players on their forum or your own knollage on how coding/bugs work to fix the issue, if you even run into any, that is)

Shenmue(As far as a game goes, It's only good to very good, however this game deserves mad props for what they did. The attention to culture is off the scale, It's a huge game map wise, and It's hard to believe this game was done on the DC, hell it requires like 80+% of the entire memory card. Also I find it very funny that a game this old on the DC at that, also looks better then most new games, since these days all developers seem to care about, is graphics anyway. The story is very good, and traditional as well. Oh yea, lets not forget the entire game has voice acting, which is almost unheard of even today).

Street Fighter 4(Jist wtf were they thinking, for a SF game, It's horendously bad, but for a game not being compared to other SF games, It's playable, however meh. They really dropped the ball on this game, they even felt the need to screw up the art design. As far as gameplay goes, they really didn't put any effort into it, in every respect from controls-char roster/modes, exc It's a "meh" game).

007 Goldeneye for wii( this game is craptastic, they removed just about everything that made the original so great, and It's very clear this game wasn't fully beta tested. Infact, I doubt it had any beta testing at all, just Alpha testing, so atleast the main systems work. It's not the worst game ever, and there are FPS much worse then this, but yea I would avoid this).

DQ 5 remake for the DS(I did a lot of research on this game before hand, as most of Square's remakes released past the PS1 era, downright sucked. Well that's not the case here, this game is amazing, and fixes all the issues with the original, as well as add a ton of replay value, which doesn't adversly interfere with the normal game mechanics. My only issue is they went with the DQ 7 artstyle, instead of the DQ6 artstyle, which is only a minor issue because #1 It's only graphics, and #2, ENIX royally screwed up the art in the original game anyway, so badly infact, it didn't even feal like a DQ game, thus in any case It's a massive improvement).

PS. I think I may have play 1 or 2 more games, but I can't rember what they are atm.

Edit: Ah, that's right, I bought a Sega CD this year, in anticipation to the release of Pier Solar, I bought a Sega CD at the begining of this yea, so here's what I played on that:

Sonic CD(An awesome Sonic game, easily one of the best, if not the best).

Dark Wizard(an awesome tactic game, there's no simple way to descibe this game, but I strongly suggest you play it).

SW: Android assault(POS, moving on lol, I got it for free anyway)

I have Shining Force CD as well, but I still need to pick up a ram cart in order to play that.

Edit #2: Oh here's more games I forgot, MM 9, and 10(both awesome game, good old school mm, mm 10 is noticeably better then mm9 though).

Blaster Master: Overdrive(An awesome game, but It's hard as all hell. I have two gripes with this game, the chame in format for the dungeon areas, and a much bigger issue sigh, it doesn't support the CC, you have to use the wii remote like a wannabe NES controller, and well the wii remote sucks when used like that).

I bought it from an ebay seller in Japan. The standard edition is region free, and the first print run standard edition came with a soundtrack too.

If you're interested, Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 is also region free. Both run 70ish new shipped.

Espgaluda 2 is way better than Futari though imo.

My year has mainly consisted of Football Manager 2010 :ok:

That's not too bad of a price considering, I might look into it.A lot of shmups have been coming out for the 360, but they're not localizing them.
