Wow, what?? Is this for real?
Yea, It's a shame, FF8's story is awesome early on, but then becomes as bad as FF7's main story.
Two words "Card Game"= enough said, the card game is that awesome(also the side quests that go along with it), however I still don't get how people can like it more then 7.
All the retarted hype Sony has made over the PS3 gaphics, yet most of the games are ugly, even pixelated as all hell. Lol even the Wii, which is "supposedly" the least powerful machine, has games with a lot better graphics then the PS3 games. Therefore if the PS3 games supposedly have cutting edge graphics, then FF7 is still cutting edge.
Hell, even the later SNES games(specificully the RPGs) had better graphics then most of the games coming out today. Also the Saturn, and some of the DC games are pretty advanced as well.
Lol afterall graphic power doesn't mean much, if the graphics are crappy/ugly to begin with anyway(powerful graphics+crappy Atr Style = fail). The horrible maps in 99% of the FPS these days is a good example of that(vertually colourless, and so dark you can barely see where you're going), oh and lets not forget the POS char redesign in SF 4(need I say more).
Pretty much destroys every single fanboy argument about FF7.
FF8's battle system really is great once you figure it out. Yeah you may not use magic as much, but that's because eventually your attacks do more damage than your magic. Magic instead serves the purpose of boosting your stats using the Junction System. Sorry but it was just awesome to junction enough of a certain elemental spell to your resistances that when that element of spell was used against you, you got healed instead.
And what was wrong about the Character designs in Street Fighter 4?
And sorry, nothing about FF7's graphics is cutting edge these days. Low quality lego people models over low res 2D backgrounds is nothing to write home about. That same approach has been out done on newer systems too. Just look at the Resident Evil Remake. And the parts that are fully 3D are pretty crummy too, the only part that looks good is the final battle because it uses high resolution and high polygon models of Cloud and Sephiroth. And FF8 still looks better. Heck Grandia, Panzer Dragoon, Virtua Fighter 2, on the Saturn all look better.
But that would be generic and bland, just like FF7. Magic for boosting stats is a bit of an interesting concept that we see in FF8, it really allows for a much more interesting level of customization. The only people who say it sucks are the ones who didn't take the time to really figure it out.
Not necessarily, the game could've had a special crafting system in place or something, so you can customize your own equips, providing you fulfill the requirments needed(lv, materials, Gold or however the developers wanted to set it up).
Also you're wrong there, I fully knew how to use it(even beat all the secret bosses as well), and I think it was a pretty crappy system.
You do realize that there is equipment and crafting in FF8 right? Thats how you get the best gear, you gather the required items, go to the store and give them the items and they craft the weapon for you.
Seriously, think about it. In FF7 did you use magic towards the end? No you didn't. You used your attacks, limit breaks, and summons as they did the most damage and worked best on bosses. Most magic wasn't really worth using and in fact just wasted slots in your weapons. FF8 on the other hand puts that magic to use allowing you to use it to further enhance your stats and skills. Some people then claim FF8 is nothing but summoning, this is not true at all. After about disc 2 I never summoned anything really. The summons instead became equipment that allowed you to junction more magic to your stats. Eventually it reached the point where you could out damage the summons with basic attacks and Limit Breaks.
Who needs to use magic in battle when you can use this?:
Yes, but they should've expanded on that, instead of making this Drawing/Junction system.
Um yes you do use magic towards the End(with things likw W-Summon Materia, Quad Magic, HP/MP Absorb Materia, the Plathora of Summons, E. Skill Materia and such, yes you use magic even late in the game).
I don't consider summons magic, nor do I consider the absorb and stat boosting materia magic. Magic in Final Fantasy are your spells like Ultima, Fire, Heal, etc. Summons are your Summons, and the stat boosting Materia is essentially the same as equipment really. We are not talking about all Materia when referring to magic, we are talking about a specific kind of Materia, the Green Materia.
In FF7 towards the end I never really used any of my magic outside of healing spells and defensive magic. All I used outside of that was Summons and Limit Breaks. Are you seriously telling me on Safer Sephiroth and Bizarro Sephiroth you used Blizzard instead of Knights of the Round or Omnislash? FF8 just puts that magic you are not using to better use.
And honestly, who cares about Final Fantasy anymore? Star Ocean is where it's at:
The GFs in FF 8 Isn't really magic, no, but the traditional summons in FF games are, and the reason I listed HP/MP absorb materias, is because you need to use mage to trigger them, so those among other support materia makes using magic not only viable late in the game, but exceptionally powerful as well.
Do you actually use the attack spells in battle? Or do you just have them sitting in your weapon for use with other Materia?
Materia is broken into 5 groups, Magic, Support, Command, Summon, and Independent. Only Magic Materia is Magic. The Summons are not considered magic in FF7, if they were they would be linked in with Magic Materia. The Absorb Materia doesn't have to be linked with magic to work either, it can be linked with command Materia and will then work. Independent and Support Materia is no different than wearing a certain piece of equipment, and Command takes the role of being a class to give you different options in battle.
In other words these are the Materia that count as Magic in FF7:
Ice
Lightning
Fire
Restore
Poison
Earth
Heal
Revive
Seal
Transform
Mystify
Time
Gravity
Destruct
Barrier
Exit
Comet
Fullcure
Contain
Ultima
Shield
Master Magic
Aside from the support ones did you really use the other ones a lot towards the end? Most likely you didn't. FF8 allows you to still put these spells to good use. FF7 they just sit in your inventory collecting dust.
Just because they label Summons as Summon materia, in no way means it Isn't magic(It's cast like magic, it has an instant effect like magic, and it uses MP, needless to say it is ******* magic lol).
However to your other statement, have you never used Comet 2, It's awesome, as are all the healing type spells. Ultima, contain, and of course Master Magic is pretty sweet as well.
I agree that the Final Fantasy 1 & 2 remakes are a waste of time as well. As was the Final Fantasy IV remake. Why so many remakes? Why not new content?
Look, just 'cause people are spoiled by high def graphics these days doesn't mean that every single game under the sun needs to be remade. Upping the polygon count on the characters, increasing the resolution, replacing the dated cut-scenes... none of this would make Final Fantasy VII a better game than it already is. So what would be the point, other than attempting to render the previous release obsolete?
Guys, let's not fight about which PS1 FF is the worst! - Everyone knows that ALL the PS1 FFs suck equally. =P
