I don't even understand how you could begin to say that.

For one, I don't know how the FF4 remake was "crap". It was an extremely solid effort, I thought personally. I was surprised they fit it all on a DS cart.

I'm glad you realize the PS1 remakes are decent. But I fail to see how the formidable GBA remakes of the same games were "crap." The only thing I would agree with you on there is the reduction of music quality. Other than that, they are fantastically good.

And DQ5 is technically an Enix game, so I don't think it counts either way...SPEAKING of which, DQ VI got announced officially, finally. So we will be seeing that one in February.

ENIX doesn't exist anymore at all, Square swallowed ENIX entirely(the developement techniques, and what the dirrection/focus is on, speaks for its self, ENIX sadly doesn't exist anymore).

Perhaps, but ENIX existed when they created DQ5. Plus it is the same creative talent behind the DQ series as it has always been, regardless of company name.

Agree with Phosis, the GBA remakes are usually considered the definitive editions.

And I'm super excited about DQ6!!! DQ4 is one of my favorite games of all time (own both the NES and DS versions), have yet to play DQ 5, and I've ALWAYS wanted to play 6. It was one of the first translated roms that I lusted over.

Wasn't Chrono Trigger just the SNES game with some new stuff? That's a far cry from a complete remake, a la Resident Evil 1.

Chrono Trigger has never really been "remade". Same goes for FFV and FFVI. Translated, sure, but not remade. Chrono trigger has an extra dungeon (could be talking out of my ass here) and some cutscenes on the PS1/DS.

When Midway went bankrupt after MK vs. DC Universe and Warner Bros. bought them out, they suddenly decided to make a 2D MK game, which is actually turning out to be actually good for a first. It took the company to go bankrupt in order to make them turn around and stop making bad decisions/games. Hopefully it will do the same for Square, so, in any case, this is good news.

Hold your horses there. That the change in Mortal Kombat has anything to do with Midway's bankruptcy is total supposition. More likely IMO is that it is realated to the resurgence of the 2D beat'em up genre and in particular the massive success of another franchise that returned to its roots: Street Fighter.

SE Isn't anywhere near bankruptcy! !up stated that "(at least) one japanese blog stated 'this is the beginning of the end'".

Dear god, this is like if I wrote Nintendo would be going downhill that would mean they were about to close the doors shortly.

SE isn't going nowhere, I'm pretty sure they'll stick around at least a few more years...

No, it really didn't. The cutscenes did, but the main game graphics did not. It was, however, the first major attempt at a "3D" turn-based RPG, so it was granted a lot of leniency at the time.

Mystic Quest on the SNES is easilly my favorite Square RPG, although I'm probably alone in that statement.

Even back in the day FFVII left me cold, especially not long after I'd got to play Final Fantasy IV.

Haha, I expected that response ;) possibly an opinion born from nostalgia as I didn't grab a SNES until pretty late on and it was my first game for it.

Can't beat a bit of Final Fantasy IV though, and by the time I got a SNES it was a damn site cheaper and easier to get hold of too.
